Car window broken on Seminary near Dakin

Our back car window was broken out on Seminary just two cars north of Dakin. We just moved here this weekend =( Nothing of value in the old 04 car...glove box was rustled for papers...Just fyi.

  • Patricia 25 Year Lakeview Resident

Sorry you had such an unfortunate first impression. Hope things get better and thanks for the fyi.

  • Thanks...I am hoping this is not common in this area and just an isolated incident. My boyfriend just cleaned his car out after the move Monday and is sure there was nothing of value there. Very odd why this would be the target.

Gunshots lastnight? Near Clark / Halsted

Did anyone hear approximately 5 gun shots last night at 12:58 AM? I'm near Wellington / Clark or Clark / Halsted. I'm not quick to yell gun shots, but it sounded incredibly similar. Can anyone confirm this? Hopefully it was just fireworks

Thanks,

microwave repair, or 36" over-the-range option?

Our 36-inch mirowave / hood combo died. All of the new over-the-range models are only 30 inches wide, so I'm thinking about having ours repaired. Any recommendations? What do people do about the extra space?

  • Maria de la Rosa-Young, North Park Gardener and coffee lover

How about installing a Vented Hood? Hoods come in many different sizes, including the 36" that you mention.

  • Unfortunately, I don't have a recommendation for repair, but if you go with Maria, you can get rid of the old with Schlep. (Moved a larger item for me, cheap & seamless)

  • Thanks, Maria. I meant the extra 6 inches of gap. Definitely want another microwave up there

Looking for a reputable eBay seller

Does anyone know of a reputable eBay seller (individual or business) that would sell some things for me and take a cut? In the city preferred. I haven't been successful finding a reputable business online.

Undecided voters...what would get you to vote for either Mayoral candidate?

On the fence? Any one thing that would sway your opinion?

I don't know that I'm voting for Chui or Rahm. For me, I'd reconsider Rahm if he immediately implemented a Mayoral 2-term limit; and if he convinced the aldermen to implement a 3-term-limit on Aldermen (grandfathering existing Aldermen, oh, of course), I think he'd run away with the race. So much of the trouble we're in now could've been avoided if we didn't have a life-time Mayor sitting on fixing the major issues whilst hoping for good luck to occasionally sweep them away.

  • it will become economic when they start cranking up the RE taxes.

Wellington and Mildred resident's

Stop being such cry babies about the ambulances and now fire trucks parking on Wellington in front of Illionis Masonic Hospital. You don't own the street and if you got a life and stopped staring out your window, you wouldn't even know they were there.
The good people of the neighborhood are tired of listening to you whine. What, did you buy your house in the middle of the night and not notice the huge hospital?
Shut up already!

  • Ann in Lakeview 30+ years in Lakeview

The same people who have the nerve to complain, will be the exact people who are thankfully they live so close to a good hospital when they have a emergency.

  • I lived across the street from the old Copley Hospital in Aurora many years ago. They were great neighbors and we enjoyed the 24/7 security that was present.

I remember one Halloween when we had "spook house" in our front yard, the security guy stopped & used his spot light to see what was going on during his rounds. If it was prowlers, up to no good, I'm sure he would have called it in....and of course the spot light would have chased the bad guys away.

This hospital was also a trauma center, and we would have helicopters land every now and then. We thought it was cool.

Seeking: Church rummage sales

If anyone knows of church rummages this spring and summer in Lakeview and Lincoln Park, can you post? I am aware of Francis Parker and St. Pauls.

  • Saint Andrew's annual Children's Garage Sale is Sat. April 18th in their gym at Paulina & Addison.

  • p.k

I don't know of any other church rummage sales in that area but Quest Theater has a rummage sale around the end of June I believe. Also the Old Town Triangle Assoc. puts on a neighborhood garage sale one weekend in the summer. Lots of people will have garage sales memorial day weekend I'm sure. You can easily find listing online or just looking for signs on the street. St. Paul's rummage sale is in September.

Lost Wedding Rings

Please help me find my lost rings. The wedding band is rose gold with diamonds all the way around, the second band is plain gold. The engagement ring is platinum with a circle cut center stone and a halo of diamonds and diamonds on the band as well.

I really want these items back as they are very sentimental to me. There will be a reward and no questions asked if returned.

  • Not sure when you lost these, but I feel like a few days back or is it over a week someone had posted something about finding some ring. Maybe look back and see if that could be yours?

Lost black and white cat

Mila got out of her home on Lakewood between Diversey and Wolfram in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago on Saturday, September 6, 2014, and she is still missing.

Mila is a 3 year-old black-and-white cat with green-yellow eyes. Her back is black while her belly, chest and paws are white. She has black around her eyes and a little black button nose. Mila is micro-chipped and was wearing a black-and-white collar with her name and our number on it. The collar has no tags or bells attached.

See more photos of Mila: danielleg.com/mila

I couldn't enter the person's yard.) I hope this helps!

CHICAGO (March 29, 2015) -- The following is a statement from Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd) in response to the news that Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) has endorsed Rahm Emanuel.

Why didn't you tell me.......???

that Pompei, the pizza/italian restaurant, reopened on Sheffield and Wellington??? The only excuse I'll accept is that you didn't know either.

I'm wondering if they are affiliated with the original Taylor St. Pompei, or if this is another franchise deal.

Well, I was finally able to give the "new" Pompei a try this weekend. I do admit it was not quite the same as the Pompei on Taylor St. It seemed very sterile. Also, the electronic menu boards through me off for a minute. I ordered a stuffed slice of sausage and ricotta, something I haven't had in years. It was good, but the crust seemed different. Doughier maybe. It wasn't bad, just different.

Now, let me tell you about something AMAZING about the "new" Pompei. They have a special dessert section. My son and I shared a Belgium waffle with Nutella, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. This is NOT for someone who is counting your calories, but if you want a dessert that will knock your socks off, please, try one of their waffles. Frickin GLORIOUS!!!

Okay, I'm done playing food critic. I would recommend the "new" Pompei, especially, their desserts. :)

Permit question

We are in the process of buying a new duplex in Lake View (yay!) and once everything is finalized will need/want to do some work on the unit including updating the kitchen and maybe some work on the above garage deck. I know a lot of the work will require city permits. Does anyone have advice on navigating those waters? We've only rented till now so I have no idea what we are getting into. Also any suggestions for designers and/or contractors is greatly appreciated! TIA!!!

  • d3 NOH

The building department in this city is so corrupt it's amazing. Pay an expeditor or it's 3+ months. Total corruption, still continuing under Rahm.

  • Dusanmann Commercial construction vendor, broker, biz investor

Jon above describe it just perfect. Be sure to hire someone who is known in the business and have good recommendation. Lot of people just looking for the cheapest price. Never go with the cheapest proposal. This is the project you live with. I do commercial only but I can definitely recommend some good remodelers.
