    Music, street performers and gumbo help turn Joliet into New Orleans North
    A Friday fest brings the bayou to downtown Joliet. The seventh annual New Orleans North Festival on June 8 will feature musicians direct from New Orleans and Joliet's own brass band, street and alleyway performers and a dozen food vendors with Hurricanes, beignets, king cakes, gumbo and a crawfish boil.

Fox Valley police reports

• Benahdam M. Hurt Jr., 24, who police said is homeless, was charged with possession of a controlled substance at 4:09 p.m. April 27 at the skate park, 411 S. River St.

• Joel Manresa, 38, of the 2400 block of West 56th Street in Hialeah, Florida, was charged with retail theft at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday at Walmart, 801 N. Randall Road, police said.

• Luke J. Valentinas, 37, of the 5600 block of South Meade Avenue, Chicago, was charged with retail theft at 1:52 p.m. April 21 at Target, 115 N. Randall Road, police said.

• An edger, two floor staplers and two sanders were stolen out of a vehicle between 10 p.m. April 18 and 9 a.m. April 19 in the 700 block of Church Street.

    Fox Valley police reports
    Jayda J. Jordan, 20, of Aurora, was charged with aggravated battery to a merchant, battery and retail theft, according to police. She was arrested on a warrant Thursday, and was being held in the Kane County jail on $20,000 bail.

    The force will be strong in downtown Aurora on May 4. Live music, food trucks and art openings are all part of the First Fridays lineup that welcomes "Star Wars" fans to celebrate. Although nothing official is planned, the night gives a nod to "May the 4th be with you," the movie's annual day of fandom.

    Biggest food truck fest in Aurora history set for downtown
    The biggest food truck festival in Aurora's history, with nearly 30 vendors, is set for Friday downtown. The third annual festival will begin at 5 p.m. "This event started as sort of a block party with about a dozen trucks, and last year we had just under 20 trucks," said Marissa Amoni, event coordinator for Aurora Downtown, an organization of downtown business and property owners.
