State liquor commission: 7 Skokie restaurants served alcohol to underage customers

In October, the commission reported 76 businesses were tested in Illinois and nine failed to comply with liquor control laws. Included in the testing was Evanston, where 20 establishments were tested and one — The Stained Glass restaurant at 1735 Benson Ave. — failed, the commission reported.

Blotter: Juvenile charged with robbery

At 7:26 p.m., a 33-year-old male clerk at Comix Revolution in the 600 block of Davis Street observed a group of juveniles enter the store, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The clerk saw one of them take two books — each valued at $15.99 — and exit the store without paying.

Officers in the 1700 block of Maple Avenue saw a group of juveniles matching the description provided by the clerk when he called the police, Dugan said. The officers chased the juveniles, caught the 14-year-old and took him into custody.

The Cicero resident and her boyfriend were having an ongoing dispute in the 2000 block of Brummel Street, Dugan said. The woman was outside yelling and screaming, and she would not leave.

A venture led by Cameel Halim has acquired a big parcel including the King Home, at 1555 Oak Ave., which closed recently. The building is directly across the street from the Halim Time & Glass Museum, a clock and stained-glass museum owned by the Halim family.

Including Halim's project, six big multifamily projects totaling more than 1,100 units are in the works in downtown Evanston. The proposals include what could be the tallest building in the city, a 37-story tower with 152 apartments and 153 hotel rooms on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue.
