Rooftop Deck -Permit

Hello,

I'm interested in building a rooftop deck on top of a 3 unit condominium. Can anyone share any tips on the permit/inspection process?

Much appreciated

  • There's no general price, it varies considerably from one situation to another.

  • I just meant ballpark range/price you encountered...realizing it's just one sample...for your particular 3 flat. I realize it varies greatly. If you don't wish to share, totally understand.

Chuy Says NO to the Belmont Flyover!

Calling the proposed Flyover “an unnecessary expenditure of taxpayer funds that will generate little return on investment,” Chuy Garcia expressed his opposition to the Flyover.

Read more, and check out our website at:
http://stopbelmontflyover.com/2015/03/03/chuy-says-no-to-belmont-flyover/

A vote for Chuy Garcia is a vote to save Central Lakeview!

  • Lynn Olejniczak Life-long Chicagoan, who loves her city.

It is more than a couple dozen and most Lakeview residents are not for it. But I'm sure that won't stop Tunney's quest for more empty store fronts.

  • I used to live on Wilton Ave....before that block of houses got removed by the CTA.
Do you like the new El station? Sometimes neighborhoods/blocks have to make concessions for the greater good. Don't know much about the flyover...but can share my experience moving from a block that no longer exists (at least on the most of the west side of the street)...life goes on.

Amy Crawford bought the Election (I Endorse?)

It was an interesting 18months but things got colorful the last four months of the campaign when Amy Crawford decided to jump in the race. Not let me inform you that none of Ms. Davis friends got behind her in support of her announcement. Not even Marc Kaplan. In the process of Amy meeting with local blogs (Uptown Uprising) and neighborhood organizations, we learned that some of Denice Davis dear friends of 25+ years were trying to recruit candidates to run against her and James Cappleman. They recruited Amy Crawford. I later learned that ONE Northside was instrumental in the recruitment of Amy Crawford. Well some members of the recruiting team finds out that Amy Crawford is not asprogressive as she claims and jump ship (I won't name names).

Moving forward, we then learn that Amy Crawford has retained Brendan Shiller and Michilla Blaise as political consultants. Brendan Shiller is Helen Shiller's son for those who do not know. Helen Shiller in some form is also a part of this consulting company.
This was strategic on Amy's behalf. I only frowned on it when she started saying "Denice Davis represents the old and the ward doesn't want to go back the road of Helen Shiller" all the while she is paying the Shiller's top dollar.

Amy Crawford has been inconsitent to put it nicely. Depending on what part of the ward she is engaging herpositions change. Amy Crawford paid Denice Davis close friends $500 dollars a week to work for her. Considering the fact that Amy Crawford have not been involved in the community at all, I am pretty sure Helen and Brendan provided Amy Crawford their contact information. My opinion Amy is WOLF in Sheep clothing. Corporate interest.

I respect the fact that before James Cappleman decided to run he at least was hands on in the community in regards to his issues. I do not agree with him but in choosing the lesser of two evils, I endorse James Cappleman.

@Susan North Uptown, hate to burst your bubble, but the homicide rate has remained the same when you compare the final four years of the former alderman to the first four years of our current alderman. It is not fair to say the murder rate has up under Capplemans watch when in fact comparing apple to apples the numbers are the same.

Now Ryne can come and post how I do not know what I am talking about, even though he is the one that gave me the link to the Redeye which shows the number are the same.

    Negative.

I want to see the subsidized housing properties managed responsibly.

They haven't been for along time...

And its time -Past Time- to hold some folks accountable.

And blaming it all on Cappleman is the wrong answer

    But, more later...

Well Amy Crawford I would invite the community to ask: Cynthia (Building Manager Gunnison/Sheridan), Jacoby Warren (4848 Winthrop), and a long time friend of Denice Davis. A close friend that Ms. Davis has took a lot of heat for when Helen Shiller help bury her son,
Aqueela Ali (920 Lakeside), Helen Thomas (4640 Sheridan).

Although a lot of people have been angered by my endorsement, people close to the campaign will tell you Amy Crawford has lied to the constituents of the 46th ward. She held several backroom meetings and dinners with key supporters of Denice Davis. She also offered $500.00 to those who would work for her.

Amy Crawford probably would have done better acknowledging the truth and writing it off as part of the political process BUT she decided to lie. Tells alot about her. Her statement solidifies my endorsement of James Cappleman.

As far as the expenditures every politician knows how that game is played. Money is washed on every other transaction. Funneled through a prop organization concealing the real contributor. Try again.

  • Quark-Gluon Plasma http://UptownChicago.Rocks

Why is this in Buena Park still? Is there a reason to only speak to Buena Park rather than the whole 46th Ward? I thought Cortez doesn't even live in the 46th Ward? This looks on the surface like targeted slander and seems as bad as when Cortez was using Denice Davis twitter soon before the election and a resident had to point out to him that the 46th Ward is not just Uptown and actually includes some Lakeview... which was an egregious blunder of his in my opinion...

  • I hope this means no more stupid annoying Cortez videos. God those were obnoxious.

Community outraged after 7 month old "mini" bull terrier shot by police

A lawsuit has been filed against the City of Chicago by the owners of a seven month old miniature bull terrier shot twice the afternoon of Dec. 1 by Chicago Police Officer Gregory Pettigrew on the 800 block of West Buena.

A crowd of more than 50 people, by the commander's estimate, attended the Dec. 6 CAPS beat meeting at Uptown Library, 929 W. Buena Ave.

This article has 2 other Chicago locations (Show)

The lawsuit, filed on Dec. 4 in the Law Division of the Cook County Circuit Court, 50 West Washington St., contends that the police officer recklessly and negligently fired his weapon at an animal that posed no threat to his physical safety.

Phillips was ordered to attend a mandatory hearing for the violation at the Central Hearing Facility, 400 West Superior, on Jan. 3,  2013. Phillips will have the choice of paying a fine or contesting the violation.

Yep typical chicago bs the owner gets the shaft and the renter gets off free..what a sham!!!!

  • Mr. Cullen established the theater and the restaurant. He had no health insurance when he had a costly stroke a few years ago. He's given immensely to theater as we know it in Chicago for decades. You can lose everything you build. This is a tragic story.

Two burglaries happened on the same block in the 100 block of South Leamington Avenue. The first incident could have occurred between Feb. 22 and Wednesday at an unknown time, and the second burglary happened between 6 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The third burglary took place between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Washington Boulevard, according to the statement.

The fourth burglary happened around 10:40 a.m. in the 5200 block of West Congress Parkway.

The third burglary happened around 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 in the 3600 block of North Fremont Street.

  • I think folks (and landlords) on the north side have been lulled to sleep for a long time and don't think that their apartments can be robbed. People need to invest in security systems, loud security alarms.

I've reviewed the published agendas of both the Zoning and the Housing committees from August 2014 through January 2015 and could find no mention of this address for a zoning change or any other city council or committee action. Because of the election, there will not be any city council meetings or committee meetings in February. There is a Housing committee hearing scheduled for 3/11 10am and two Zoning Committee Hearings next month: 3/12 and 3/17 , both staring at 10am in Council Chambers, before the 10am 3/18 City Council meeting. No agendas for these committee meetings are available yet. Shortly after 3/1 some of the agendas for the March meetings should start to appear. You can check the web site:
https://chicago.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx for any additional committee meeting dates, changes in times/locations, and the meeting agendas. The current or new alderman for the ward may know more about the property before any hearing action. The press coverage about the property are old stories at:

Summer Options for 6 year old child

I'm looking for daycare options for my 6 year old for this upcoming summer. I work from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. The Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club doesn't start until 8 am but I have to be at work by 8 am. I need to pick up as late as 6 pm on some days. Any suggestions/recommendations for high quality group childcare for a 6 year old in the area? Looking for entire summer, not just short summer camps. Thank you!
