Illegal handyman flyers posted on my garage which has two “No Soliciting” signs posted

So, after months of having my two “No Soliciting” ignored and illegal handymen flyers taped to my garage I’ve decided to get some satisfaction.

I called Jose yesterday and gave him an imaginary address about half way down the block from me. He stopped by half an hour later in the alley to look at the garage that “needed a lot of work”. Soon after getting there he started texting & calling me for me to come out. After about 20 minuets he drove away. I then texted him and told him why I just wasted 30 mins of his time. He replied in a viulgar laced text.

It made my day, no it made my week!

Cathal, how dear you post a sign asking people to leave your property alone by leaving unwanted items attached to it? You must be a racist, maybe a nazi, did you leave those swastika stickers around Kilbourn Park? I would never think those stickers were probably false flagged.

Just like when the Boers and Bernstein radio show never liked taking calls from a "Bob", because they tended to be bad callers, we have a lot of "Bobs" on EB shouting out false claims of racism, absurd gun control, and so forth.

But I digress. Most of those flyers turn to litter, but I thought LibProgs are all for the environment?

Highly skilled bilingual coordinators will explain what documentation is needed, the waiting process, and how to fill out the new online-only application using computers. Through this process, SCH has been successful in helping over 400 seniors apply for affordable senior housing units.

The next workshops available are:
• June 7, 2018- 3:00 pm, West Belmont Public Library, 3104 N. Narragansett Avenue (Belmont Cragin)

• June 14, 2018- 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm, West Belmont Public Library, 3104 N. Narragansett Avenue (Belmont Cragin)

Here are important things to consider that are discussed at the workshops including how to qualify for senior housing:

• You must be 60 years or older to apply but can only be housed at age 62. However, if you have a disability, you can apply and be housed at age 55
• Income for 1 person cannot exceed $44,250 and $50,600 for a 2 person household
• A criminal background check of the last 3 years is required for single or double occupancy
• A studio or 1 bedroom are the only options available for senior housing
• You must only select 1 out of the 46 different senior housing locations (see here for a map listing http://www.thecha.org/residents/public-housing/find-public-housing/?pt=2)

For a complete list of available workshops in your neighborhood visit http://sc4housing.org/cha-community-alliance/ or call Spanish Coalition for Housing offices: north location (773-342-7575), south location (312-850-2660) and southeast location at 773-933-7575. Pieces of Dead Squirrels/Birds

I have been finding pieces of squirrels and birds around my house. I noticed a large black bird (I think it's a crow) that appears to be nesting in one of the trees nearby. I suspect that the bird has been killing and eating these animals. Does anyone know if there is something that should or could be done about this? I am also concerned if there might be health/safety risks associated with this problem.

  • It's very unlikely that this Crow or any Crow would be doing this if the animal was alive, they may eat the animal if dead, but not alive! It's more of a Hawk or Owl, doing this, I've seen hawks lurking about in the Park, but no Owl's, also, there's a Coyote around the neighborhood as well so be aware! That Crow is not the Problem!!! Same thing was happening in the Park last season, multiple squirrel's showing up with their heads missing!!! Could be a Fox too!!!

  • PennyPenguin Chillin' out on EB

Agreed. It is the circle of life. Let it be.

  • Carleen Merges in Chicago Single mom concerned about my neighborhood

I have never seen a crow do anything like that BUT I have seen hawks swooping down and grabbing squirrels and rabbits.

Water seepage after the rain

Did anybody get some water in their basement after last nights rain? It looks like the water came in to our basement through the wall in 3 spots... did anyone have the same problem? Does anyone have someone they can recommend and give me a ballpark idea of how mich it would cost to fix?

  • Hello everyone, I know that some of you were interested in this topic. I was waiting to see if with more rain everything will be fine and not even one drop after Mark came out to fix the cracks in our basement. Flat fee of $275 per crack (which was...

Hello everyone, I know that some of you were interested in this topic. I was waiting to see if with more rain everything will be fine and not even one drop after Mark came out to fix the cracks in our basement. Flat fee of $275 per crack (which was wayyyyyy less than other companies that I called.) He came out quickly and did the work professionally the same day! We are very happy with his work, glad that he's right in the area so he could come out right away. So here's his info as I recommend him 100% Mark 773-517-2390

Dear Des Plaines River & Trail Stakeholder,

Active Transportation Alliance recently launched a campaign (we had our kickoff meeting in late February) to bring together key stakeholders, from local elected officials to Country, State, and Federal agencies to regional planning bodies, to form a coalition aimed at addressing access and connectivity issues along the southern end of the Des Plaines River Trail, from Touhy Avenue to North Avenue.

Among the objectives of the coalition are to dive into understanding the political, geographic, and funding barriers that exist along this section of the trail. We’ll also be examining how the forming of a coalition, the release of a Phase I engineering study, and the formation of a “Friends Of” group for this section of the trail can serve as instrumental elements in identify solutions and ensuring improvements are made.

You are invited to the next meeting of the Des Plaines River & Trail Coalition, which will take place from noon – 2 pm on Wednesday, May 23rd at the Franklin Park Police Department building (9451 Belmont Avenue, in the Community Room). Lunch will be provided. At this meeting, we’ll have a thorough discussion of the physical constraints (connectivity, flooding, access, etc.) along the southern end of the Des Plaines River Trail (from Touhy Avenue to North Avenue). We’ll also hear from one of the founders of the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition and the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail on how they formed their organizations and how they identified and achieved their goals.

If you are interested in attending, please RSVP at the following link: http://go.pardot.com/l/213232/2018-04-24/2whlr

We hope to see you at noon on Wednesday, May 23rd!

Atrocious Experience at Slice Factory in Elmwood Park

This isn't a particularly hyped type of place, but it does seem to be fairly popular in the new neighborhood I moved to. Just wanted to share my experience for anyone who might happen across it.

Absolutely atrocious. Delivery arrived damaged and the driver handed me my food in various boxes outside the bag. I told him I didn’t want to accept the order because it was mostly damaged and leaking and I couldn’t even get it inside in the state it was in. He more or less shrugged and said take it up with the restaurant. This jerk didn’t even bother to help me carry it upstairs even though it was no longer in deliverable condition.

Called the restaurant to complain and they said they could make me a new order. I declined because I’m not waiting another two hours to deal with the same delivery guy. They said they would refund. When I didn’t get an email saying it was refunded, I called Grubhub. Shocker, the restaurant never called to refund. Grubhub then had to contact the restaurant, who admitted they had received my call but not taken action, and again, offered to remake the order. No dice. I demanded a refund for the portion of my order that was damaged and inedible and for the driver's tip to be refunded.

Even the items that were not damaged were just terrible. A burger and fries are not supposed to be so damp they are falling apart and the Buffalo fries were missing the chicken and bleu cheese that were supposed to come on them (also completely soggy and inedible, I could mush them with a fork they were so soft). I've tried this restaurant once before and they left an item out of the order, but their Cobb salad was great so I decided to give them another shot. Mistake on my end.

Terrible food, terrible service and the delivery guy should be fired. You don't hand someone destroyed, leaking boxes of food, refuse to take it back and not even help them get the order inside. Anyone in the Belmont Cragin and Elmwood Park area steer clear.

  • If it's the one on Grand this this must of happened a while ago because the slice Factory been closed for at least 6 months to a year

Plumbing company recommendation?

Can anyone suggest a good reasonable plumbing company to replace my hot & cold water valves for the washer. No need to open wall, just shut down water line in the building. Anyone might be able to give me an estimate? So far I was told $325. I think kinda high. Thx

Concrete stair repair and iron railing repainting contractors

I saw a post on this same topic from 2014, but was looking for more up to date information. I am looking for a contractor to do concrete repair on the front steps of my house. Specifically, I have a crack and separation along the base of the first riser at the walkway (see photo). Other than this there is no major problems with the concrete. Ultimately, what I would like to have done is crack repair, new parge coat, and iron railings prep and paint. Looking for suggestions on contractors used for similar projects in my area. Thanks in advance.
