Dear City Newbies, Please Pick Up Your Dog Poop!

The owner of the house he pooped in front of came out and talked to him and he not only refused to pick it up, he then treated this man who has lived in Bucktown forever like he was a crazy person. I happened upon this scene and it was quite amazing. He really thought it was unnecessary to pick up after his dog.

He's 30ish, short blondish brown hair with a new small black puppy. He;s got a wild eyed stare that looks like he might have moved here from some podunk town in East Texas. I'd post a pic but that probably would be against the rules here plus I don't carry a phone with me. I'm amazed at the arrogance thinking it's OK to let dog poop sit on the sidewalk. This might work in his farm country but don't they teach any manners there? End of rant. Still kind of pissed. This happened on Shakespeare just west of Hoyne.

BTW: If there was a Patrol Dogs Club that poop and all others would get picked up by the next dog walker.

  • Brandon Bear - I've called the police on occasion and have had VERY good response from them. I'm in Logan Square.

  • Artist girl Artist and Muscian

I meant they would have fined the guy who didn't pick up his dog's poop. Brandon Bear said that the poop guy was who called 911.

Southern food inspired by Mississippi Delta in Wicker Park

Southern food inspired by Mississippi Delta in Wicker Park
There are, of course, restaurants in the Chicago area that specialize in southern food, but most of them tend to stick to the same script: fried catfish or chicken, biscuits and a plate of shrimp and grits.

diamond(?) ring found

Found a diamond ring (my guess is it's fake - but it's possible it's not) on Hirsch and Oakley. If you can describe it, it's yours.

  • M

What a decent thing to do. Thank you for being a good neighbor. I hope the owner gets to reunite with what is probably a very important item.

  • Hi Danit - I know you posted this quite some time ago but I was wondering if the ring you found is a round center stone with a halo of smaller diamonds around it and down the sides?

    Thank you!
    Katie

  • Hi there - someone contacted my husband about the ring last year. Hope you find your ring!

I was listening to the Chicago Police Department scanner and heard reports related to an aggravated vehicular hijacking at 2212 West Lyndale at 12:25PM on Friday, December 1, 2017.

The offenders were three black males, two armed with handguns, who pulled up to the hijacked vehicle in a Silver 2014 Chevy Equinox. The Equinox used in this carjacking was reported to have been also previously carjacked in Broadview, Illinois by two black males who were reported to be armed and dangerous.

From the City of Chicago crime map, I was able to find reports of two carjackings in this part of Bucktown over the last 12 months:

AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR HIJACKING

VEHICULAR HIJACKING

I have attached a map of all vehicular hijackings in and near Bucktown in the last 12 months. To get more details about these incidents, and other crimes in the area, you can search the City of Chicago crime map at:

Broadcastify only offers the general CPD stream, which scans traffic in the 13 zones and often does not capture important dispatches in specific zones. Broadcastify will also often play recordings from earlier dispatches even while indicating that the scanner is live and current.

Bucktown is in District 14 which is in Zone 3. If you listen to the Zone 3 stream on crimeisdown.com, you will hear all the dispatches and police officer replies as they are occurring.

I will often have the scanner playing in the background as I work and I am now used to listening to three or four zones simultaneously. Even though dispatches are almost constant and there is overlap in dispatches from the zones, it is possible to monitor large areas of the city in this way.

CPD and the City of Chicago only release information about crimes and post details on their crime maps 7 days after each incident. Many other major cities post information within 24 hours.

If someone is not learning about Chicago crime incidents through scanner broadcasts, there can be criminals targeting specific areas for repeat robberies and burglaries within a 7 day period and people will be vulnerable and unaware in those areas. I have noticed that robberies especially can suddenly become a problem in a neighborhood or block that was otherwise safe for months previously.

I will continue to post details of major incidents that suggest that there is an active, ongoing threat with suspects at large. The CPD is doing a great job of catching some robbers and robberies and assaults are sometimes related to criminal activity such as drug dealing. I am not posting those incidents because they do not create a heightened danger for most citizens.

Way out on that farmer's road. Now you know I'm living in Chicago, And people, I sure do hate to go. -Muddy Waters, "My Home is in the Delta" That lyric from Waters is a bit of an idle threat. It was recorded in 1963, but Waters stayed in Chicagoland, dying in his Westmont, Illinois home in 1983.

concern about safety

There is an urgent need for adequate lighting on the North side of the 606 at Bloomingdale and Western. The pavement is very uneven and dangerous to pedestrians. Also any traffic coming from the East trying to merge onto Western cannot see what's coming from northbound traffic on Western. There should be a way for cars to see what's coming on Western, in order to merge without blocking the crosswalk or entering Western since that's very dangerous to the moving cars on Western as well.

  • JeannyB Old Apartment renovator, architect,

. I still think a more intense street light would be necessary for the pedestrians though as repaving would probably not last due to Chicago climate and the fact that it's somewhat under a viaduct (the 606) which always has bad pavement anyway. That would be better than a stop sign, if it would stay visible. Right now you can see a little portion of coming traffic thru the posts, but not everything....and you're not totally sure of what's coming and how fast.
Where should it be placed exactly? T He more detail you tell the city, the better.

  • Artist girl Artist and Muscian

I didn't say a stop sign, I said a convex traffic mirror that would show approaching traffic reflected in it. It would solve the problem. You would place it to the right, on the north side of Bloomingdale, where it meets Western, and turn it so that it shows approaching traffic.

So Hoping this girl might be Shayna missing from Skokie. Her family saw a camera video from where she was lost while with a sitter that showed she was picked up, so it's possible she ended up in Chicago. I did contact Shayna's mom and she is going to contact you as she looks like her girl. She is not on facebook and I believe her grandson who lives in Texas is trying to help her set up a facebook account to comment on on the hospital's post. 312 Dining Diva added 20 new photos — eating ...

Bucktown newcomer The Delta serves an impossibly cool brunch. And I swear I am not exaggerating. “Delta af” is the catchphrase owners Eldridge Williams and executive chef Adam Wendt picked up during their many visits to the Southern region during the restaurant’s concept phase. They’ve got the authenticity down spectacularly, though their version caters to a hip, North Side crowd. First, I have to say how much I enjoyed the soundtrack. Gospel, neo-soul, vintage Delta blues and old-school hip-hop dominated the playlist, and we absorbed and appreciated every song that came on. It certainly complemented Chef Wendt’s modern interpretations of Delta-style cuisine. From a tartine of smoked catfish, Boursin cheese and deviled egg to spicy beef brisket red hot tamales, he cranks out sophisticated, yet simple eats. Photos by Matt Lowell
