Edgebrook VOTE NO to Higher Property Taxes proposed by the Chamber of Commerce

Anyone who owns commercial property in Edgebrook, or who is a business owner or tenant in Edgebrook, or any resident of Edgebrook that doesn't want these added property taxes pushed into the costs of your food or daycare or other services you pay in Edgebrook should read this:

Anyone who owns commercial property in Edgebrook, or who is a business owner or tenant in Edgebrook, or any resident of Edgebrook that doesn't want these added property taxes pushed into the costs of your food or daycare or other services you pay in Edgebrook should read this:

The Chamber of Commerce wants to tax us more! They have applied to set up an SSA (Special Service Area) to increase the property taxes of all commercial properties along Devon, Central, Lehigh and Caldwell by up to an additional 10%! And to for this tax to be approved, they only need 20% of the property owners to agree. What's worse, if the business owners don't respond to the vote, that counts as a YES!

WE NEED TO STOP THIS TAX NOW!!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO ATTEND ONE OR BOTH OF THE MEETINGS THIS WEEK TO SAY NO!

There are two meetings to attend this week: Go to one or both of these meetings to say "NO" to the SSA:

1. Tuesday, April 17, 4:30-5:30 pm, Edgebrook Library, 5331 W Devon, Chicago, IL (Although their mailer says there is street parking on Devon, they must not have noticed the street is undergoing a massive sewer expansion and there is no parking on Devon right now- allow extra time to find parking)

2. Wednesday, April 18, 5:30-6:30 pm, Edgebrook Library, 5331 W Devon, Chicago, IL

Even if you are a tenant and not the property owner, an increase in property taxes may flow to you if you have a net lease.

I don't want to see more businesses leave or fail because rents need to be increased due to a tax hike like this. I don't want to have to pay more when I got out to eat or pick up my kids from daycare because the taxes get passed along to us in the end, even if you don't own commercial property!

Please forward this email to anyone you know in Edgebrook, especially business owners, property owners, shoppers in the area and concerned citizens!

Please call me with questions.

Thanks,

I was at both meetings. It was pretty clear from both meetings that the business land owners and business tenants don't want any new taxes. They don't believe that the services proposed here would actually decrease vacancy or increase revenue for the existing businesses. It was also clear that despite the chamber saying they mailed notices in March to all of the properties, most people had no idea there were even meetings for this until they saw it on social media. Many of the land owners and business owners still do not know and were not at the meetings.

The best way to stop all of this now is for everyone (whether a land owner, business owner, or just a consumer that doesn't want to pay more when they buy a pizza or pay for day care in Edgebrook) to call their Alderman as well as the Alderman of the two wards in downtown Edgebrook.

North side of Devon: Alderman Anthony Napolitano: 773-631-2459
South side of Devon: Alderman Margaret Laurino: 773-736-5594

The Fake Facebook Pages Targeting Vietnam Veterans
The pages are operated out of Eastern Europe and the social network took almost two months to shut one of them down. The page was ultimately taken offline for copyright infringement. But two more like it-" Nam Vets" and " Vietnam-Veterans.org," both of which are registered to the same Netfinity JSC of Bulgaria-were subsequently discovered.

Dog leash rules posted in park

The Oriole. Park Advisory Council has two informative signs posted in the two kiosks in the park. Useful so dog owners know the rules.

  • Sadly, some dog owners think that rules are for everybody else.

  • Taking into account their perspective, they are the owners of wonderfully trained and loving dogs, but as we approach we do not know your scenario.......so we are forced to retreat and divert our path to protect the dogs from a potential problem....the leash is there to maintain peace in the...

Taking into account their perspective, they are the owners of wonderfully trained and loving dogs, but as we approach we do not know your scenario.......so we are forced to retreat and divert our path to protect the dogs from a potential problem....the leash is there to maintain peace in the park......some parks do not let our pets in, so let's help our parks share the grounds with these loyal companions and keep the leash on and pick up after them so when we meet each other, we can continue enjoying the simple pleasure of walking with our four legged friends.....after all, we share the motivation to stay healthy by going to the park in the first place.....community is defined as: a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Thanks for understanding!

Campfire smell almost every night in Oriole Park

Does anyone know where the burning smell is coming from? It's hard to be outside because the smell is so strong. We are close to the church at Foster and Oketo.

  • OParker Native Chicagoan

I've noticed a some areas to the north where the Forest Preserves are doing controlled burns.

  • I believe it is coming from a house on the 5300 block of Olcott. He has an outside fire pit.

LOST/STOLEN double stroller

Our City Select Blue/Teal Double stroller was on Berwyn between oak park and Newcastle on north side of the street and it is now gone. I am trying to figure out ways to reach out to see if anyone has seen anything

  • It sat next to the street for hours and when it got dark was still there. The next day it was gone. Prob kids from the school pushed it somewhere and it is trashed by now.
