Shootings near Ridgeway and Milwaukee

There have been shootings in this area before, but this week on 2/15 and 2/14/18 a couple of cars, one being a black Honda Civic, with their lights turned off have openly shot at the house second to last from the alley near Ridgeway and Milwaukee. If I had to guess, it’s the house with the 2958 address that got shot at.

The guys that live at the location are bad news. They attract violence. I don’t know if the shootings are gang related, but I’ve seen drugs and guns at that location and now they are being shot at. It’s really scary and there are a lot of little kids in the area.

Does anyone have further info or has anything to add to this post? I want to contact the police and anything neighbors can add may be helpful.

Thanks

    Hi AVLSN.

My block had a known gangbanger living a couple of doors down. (Landlord is a slum lord in that building and his kids and grandkids live there...that's another story.) Anyway, 3 of my neighbors and myself got them evicted and here's how we did it:

1.) Call 911 when you see drugs, guns any crime. Keep a journal of every time you call. Note, often times the 911 dispatcher won't dispatch a car b/c they don't care. (Don't blame the police. If they are dispatched they have to show up. It's the dispatchers.) But there will be a record that you called. How do I know this? My neighbors and I had 27 calls that were never dispatched. Our Commander cleaned up the 911 center after hearing that.
2.) Go meet with your Commander. Get him/her involved.
3.) Go to CAPS meetings and ask the Commander and the Alderman for help with the building.
4.) Set up a meeting with your Alderman. Tell them you want this building cleaned out. (Note, you don't want a building declared a drug building b/c your home value will decrease.) Keep and bring specific records of everything you see at that building.
5.) Remind your Alderman that they want people like you and your neighbors who pay their taxes and bring value to the neighborhood so he/she needs to get this "trash" out of the neighborhood.
6.) Provide timelines and follow-ups with your Alderman. He/She can send out investigators if the building is not up to code etc. They can call a meeting with the landlord etc. Trust me if you stay on your Alderman he/she will get sick of hearing from you every couple of weeks. :-)

There were 4 of us and never gave up. I hope you can find some neighbors to help you and good luck. This took us about 4 months total.

    Be safe!

Dibs are not only Unappreciated, but Also Illegal

Hey everyone, I know with the snow this year it's a real pain in the butt to dig your car out from the side of the road. But dibs are tacky, unhelpful, and make our beautiful neighborhood look like a dump. If everyone who dug out a spot left the spot, there would be a spot for everyone who needed one.

None of us own the streets in Chicago and none of us can claim ownership of a parking spot on these public ways. I don't even park on the street, but if I see dibs I unequivocally move them up onto the sidewalk in an unobtrusive area.

Be a good neighbor - don't place dibs.

  • Um...no. Then again, I doubt that they'd pitch a tent at a bus stop, which is what's in from of my condo building. But I would have let him/her pitch a tent in my yard. My neighbors wouldn't have liked it though.

I've given money to the homeless, even gave a winter sleeping bag to one guy who was one of my regulars. He loved it.

  • Joe

Homless DIBs under the bridge at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive should be removed by streets and sanitation. Lets be honest...DIBs and the homeless are kind of an unwanted sore on the streets of my city...but, I don’t mess with either.

Chicago's "Smart Lighting Project" is NOT smart!

Blinding LED streetlights have failed in NYC and LA, but Chicago keeps plodding ahead with first generation lighting. If you don't want your neighborhood to look like Fulton Market, call your Alderman and tell them you want warm PC Amber LED's in Chicago not "night game" lighting on your residential street. https://www.facebook.com/groups/155084901640186/

All Vicki ever does is to assume everyone shares her point of view so she tries to speak for everyone. Once that fails, she starts name calling and labelling, telling everyone that she’s right and everyone is wrong, that she wants to have intelligent conversations while everyone else is insensitive, that she’s a good citizen while everyone else is a troll, that her HPS lights are beautiful and everyone’s LEDs make the city look like Walmart parking lots and mosques. Once that fails, she resorts to personal attacks.

Ice Dam...water dripping into back rooms

Hello neighbors. Woke up to frozen interior rear stairs and some pretty bad leaks in the back rooms this morning. Looks like Ive got one helluvan ice dam. Anyone have a reputable company they can recommend to clear the ice today? Or any other recommendations? Trying to prevent thousands in water damage. Thanks for your help.

  • Do you have anyone that you would recommend to install the ice cables? I have a huge issue I'm a second-story roof gutter area and have since I moved in 5 years ago. I have an ice dam on the south side of my house and this year is three times larger than last year. I'm pretty sure that those ice cables would solve my problem!

  • It can be a bit complicated to install the melt cables as it requires power. The cables I am familiar with are plug-in, so getting a new wet-use electric line run to your roof or near your roof with an outdoor use waterproof box/pipe/connectors and GFCI outlet can be the...

It can be a bit complicated to install the melt cables as it requires power. The cables I am familiar with are plug-in, so getting a new wet-use electric line run to your roof or near your roof with an outdoor use waterproof box/pipe/connectors and GFCI outlet can be the main expense.

As far as operation is concerned, they sell accompanying plug-in thermostats for $17 that will allow power to your melt cable based on the outdoor temperature hitting a certain reading. Personally I think this is a waste of energy as then the cable will be on when it is cold and not snowy as well as when there is snow.

I like them on a switch in the basement that I control. Or on a multi-level structure you can have the power line run somewhere under the back porch.

I'm not a fan of Home Depot due to their policy or frequent decision of re-stocking returns that customers have brought back as broken or missing parts, but there is a video on ice melt cable installation there. I hate it when I have to go back because I was sold some broken or incomplete garbage. I've had plenty of good experience at HD, also but they simply and easily could do better. Another beef is if there is one certain thing I need there is a shelf label there, the wrong thing is in that spot, and there are 28-49 of each item next to it and zero of the item I need.

Here is the product and video link:

I provide healthy, well balanced meals and snacks in a loving and nurturing environment, have excellent references from past and present parents and I charge reasonable rates. Some of our daily activities include music, play and story time along with plenty of outside time in our beautiful gated and grassy courtyard.

I know how difficult it is to leave your child with someone but I assure you I will give your little one all the love, attention and care they need unlike some of those huge daycare facilities. I would love the opportunity to care for your little one, so please contact me for more information or to set up an appointment to come by and see the beautiful set up. Thank you!

Mine was on a heart shaped key ring with a gold and silver key too, but it's possible that the car key may no longer be attached to the key ring. Thanks for double checking the one you have!

It started out with a recorded message and then asked if I wanted to speak with someone. When I said yes, I was connected to a man who said he was with "Safecar." When I asked where he'd gotten my number, he said he didn't know because he wasn't with the marketing department. When I asked what vehicle he was calling about, he hung up.

LOST Cat - 100$ Reward

Hi everyone. Our forever outdoor cat Baxter (gray and white tabby on left in second picture) is still missing. We’ve never been able to keep a collar on him, he’s been neutered, not chipped. Small rip in left ear. Please be on the lookout and let me know if anyone has seen him. Please also take a minute to check any garages, basements, outdoor crawl spaces or under decks/porches, or basically anywhere a cat could sneak in to hide or get stuck. They are curious animas.
You may also call the number 773-407-6961 if you have any details regarding him or have seen him. A 100$ reward is up. Please and thank you.

  • We are a ways away but I will definitely watch for him and keep you in our thoughts. As someone who loves cats, it's easy to imagine how hard this must be.

  • Thank you all. We’re still holding out hope. I will give treehouse a call. We’ve checked with them to see if anyone brought a cat in like him but no luck yet. I don’t think he would gravitate to a colony but you never know.

Now that Dollar Tree at 3016 N Ashland is closed, does anyone know what new business will be going in this space? So sad to see Dollar Tree leave but I guess they raised the rent and staying was no longer an option. Thanks.
