No, there's no limit on how much people can post. But there's also no limit on how much people can complain about how much other people post--this street goes both ways, you know!

In Trudy's case, she is not posting just as a neighborhood resident like the rest of us (I don't even think she lives here, but maybe she does); she posts as an intern for the RP Chamber of Commerce, as part of a public relations effort for her organization (that's no secret), so when I say she posts "too much," I mean she is risks reflecting negatively reflection on the Chamber by overposting.

Any indoor tracks near Loyola for the winter?

Hi all. I live very close to Loyola campus and do a lot of walking around the campus and elsewhere the rest of the year. I like cold weather walking, but this weather is just cold for me, and I'm really missing my daily long walk.

I called Loyola's rec center, and the indoor track is only accessible to those with a Loyola affiliation. I have none. I'm looking for an indoor track that might be accessible to the community, preferable free because I live in Rogers Park, but happy to pay a small amount for use. Not looking for cardio, treadmills, etc.--just a closeby track I can use for the winter. Can anyone help? Thank you!

  • Wazzup not available

Edgewater has the Armory on Broadway - an excellent indoor track.

  • ScottK Near Glenwood/Devon in North Edgewater

Not surprised at the response from Loyola (this is not a complaint, just an observation). The LUC library is also open only to those with an LUC affiliation. Probably for security reasons and the fact that they're a privately owned institution without an obligation to serve the general public. That said, I've used the DePaul library without being affiliated and with no one asking for university credentials to get in. I guess each institution does what it needs to.

I was not aware that this was going to be a multi-level extension. I hope that the developer is using bird safe glass. Or taking other precautions to make the building bird safe. It saddens me to no end walking past these buildings in our beautiful neighborhood and finding dead and stunned birds from window collisions. There is no reason for it.

I would vote for bullet proof glass over bird safe glass.

Tawani and Col. Pritzker are solid investors in Rogers Park. Their partnership with our alderman continues to improve the neighborhood. The Emil Bach house, Farcroft, Mayne Stage, Mayne Annex and this new development are great improvements. Rogers Park rocks with things like this. We have theater and Rogers Park Social and the Heartland and great restaurants like Twisted Tapas and Ethiopean food and and Cuban food and gobs of other great stuff like Peruvian food because we have an alderman who works for us. Let's stop this feel good scam by class warriors of calling it affordable and label it what it is--a government approved crime of highly compensated middle people taking money from some and giving it to others. If you want to help others live in housing they can't afford, you can independently donate to an entity called a housing charity which will donate the money to the owner.
Now that's fair. And affordable for more people.

Ticketing of this nature is not merely an enforcement issue; it instills the reality that laws, no matter how insignificant should be obeyed. There was no excuse for those individuals in violation of parking restrictions as notice had been more posted with more than sufficient warning. At times, small issues such as complying with bicycle, pet or parking ordinances may seem insignificant. There always seem to be a few non caring individuals who can't comply with reasonable community policy.

Lost keys on Rogers Park Lakefront

Hi Neighbors, I went for a run along the lake path with my dog from Albion ending at Leone park this morning around 10am and dropped my keys.

I noticed they had fallen off my clip when I got to Leone park and I retraced all my steps...no luck. There are about 5 keys and a black Fob with a CAC tag. Please let me know if anyone finds them??? Thanks in advance 🙏

  • Bill Morton President, Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce

I'll take a walk over there, to check it out. Did you visit the beach at all, or just the park?

  • Hi Bill, thank you! I did spend a fair amount of time looking at the beach and grass. I just ran to the water and turned around.

  • Update: Rogers Park/ Edgewater community is the best! A very kind gentleman found them on his walk and was able to track me down through CAC, who got in touch with me and I now have my keys! 🙋‍♀️Thank you, and look forward to paying it forward soon. ♥️🙏❤️

Salerno’s Restaurants, a family-owned chain of Italian eateries with locations throughout the Chicago area, including its flagship location at Grand and Racine, is looking to open its 11th restaurant here in Rogers Park.

Rob Salerno, a second generation member of the Salerno family, set his sights on the old Howard Theater building in the storefront formerly occupied by Little Unicoco, a Nigerian restaurant, which closed earlier this year (see photo below).

Mr. Salerno proposes to operate a traditional sit-down restaurant, with a take-out counter in a room located just east of the dining area. Mr. Salerno also proposes to provide seating at a bar, which will be situated in the west side of the dining area.

For the second year in a row, we’ve experienced a very late fall. We are now in December and many trees have yet to shed their leaves and home owners are still clearing their property of leaves and yard waste.

As a result, the 49th Ward from now until the Christmas holiday will have its own truck devoted exclusively to picking up leaves and yard waste.

If you are the owner or resident of a home receiving City of Chicago garbage pick-up (single family homes and apartment buildings with five units or less), place your bagged yard waste next to your garbage carts and contact my 49th Ward Service Office at ward49@cityofchicago.org (or 773-338-5796) to request a special City yard waste pick-up.

This service will be available until Friday, December 21st.

If you are an owner or resident of an apartment building larger than five units, contact your private waste hauler to arrange a pick-up of your yard waste.

As a special reminder, when you clean your yard, DO NOT blow or rake your leaves and yard waste into the street. City street sweeping will end in one week and most of our streets have seen the last street sweeping of the season. The leaves you blow into the street simply will compost into mud and will not be cleaned by the City until street sweeping resumes in April.

Not only is keeping your street clean the neighborly thing to do, but blowing or raking your leaves and yard waste into the street is against the law. You could be subject to a fine of $250 if you do so. Fines will increase for repeated offenses.

Thanks for your help in keeping the 49th Ward clean!

Advice needed!

Recently, my puppy got out and my very kind neighbors took her in. They fed her and ended up babysitting for about three hours. They were beyond wonderful. They even offered to watch her again. Their kids loved her and she obviously has a great time with them.
My dog is a lot of energy and can intimidate most people. I want to express my gratitude with cookies or something.
Here is my problem:
They are Hasidic and I want to give them something they can enjoy. I am not religious, and I don’t want to make them anything that would not follow their lifestyle. I don’t want to disrespect them in any way.

Any suggestions?

  • Whatever you decide to do, don't bring something you baked yourself. An Orthodox person will not eat food made in a non-Kosher kitchen. If you bring something to eat, it must have have the kosher symbols on it. That's why others are suggesting Tel Aviv or Northshore bakeries or the kosher bakeries at Marianos on Touhy or Jewel on Howard. Always leave food in original packaging so one can tell where it is from. Gift card is easier!

  • Buy them a doggy minora.
    https://www.judaica.com/dog-menorah.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIysDxj_jo1wIVSbnACh3OTQJcEAQYBCABEgJIDPD_BwE

The one above is kinda expensive but I'm sure you can find them cheaper.

Anyway it's a thoughtful gift thats a nice momento of the situation.

From a letter sent to Alderman Moore regarding his letter seeking community input to limit construction-related disruption caused by his Target project on Sheridan Road:
"We will absolutely expect more accurate and complete information ahead of time about this project than was ever provided to the neighborhood regarding the hotel construction at Albion and Sheridan, including any notification of when and where sidewalks were to be completely closed (causing great risk to pedestrians walking perilously in traffic to avoid time-consuming delays in crossing Sheridan Road twice to get to the "L", or else jaywalking dangerously across Sheridan), when and why stickered parking spaces were removed (despite promised that this would not happen), and where and when alleys would be totally obstructed, as the one in the 6400 block of North Magnolia already is for a significant portion of any given day for the convenience of the mega-buildings on Sheridan Road."

  • Jeffrey Littleton Yo soy Uptown.

It's fair to call Sheridan Rd. a residential street from Berwyn to Devon, arterial, but residential.

  • d3 NOH

It's an arterial used to commute to a highway .. whereby none of the buildings seem to accept delivery trucks even when they have a driveway for it..
So half blocked by delivery trucks at any given time of the day ... a city planning nightmare...

Joe Moore, Alderman of Chicago's 49th Ward ad...

Please join me as I head to Sheridan Road after work on Friday to sample some gooey, decadent macaroni and cheese at a fun recent addition to the Rogers Park restaurant scene. Follow Me on Friday to Midnight Mac & Cheeserie, 6981 N. Sheridan (at Lunt) this Friday, December 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Join me in trying some of the delicious and creative ways Midnight Mac & Cheeserie prepares what is America’s favorite comfort food. To compliment the Mac and Cheese, I will be offering up free beverages, including beer, wine or soft drinks. Owner Antony Van Zyl founded Midnight Mac & Cheeserie as a carryout and delivery business only, offering a variety of mac and cheese options. But on opening day, which saw a line around the corner and a complete sellout of every single noodle, Antony realized he had discovered a huge untapped market–a hankering for the ultimate gooey comfort food. Antony decided to go for broke and transformed the carryout and delivery business into a traditional sit-down restaurant, located in the site that previously housed the Growling Rabbit. As the name indicates, Midnight Mac & Cheeserie offers all variations of America’s favorite comfort food. Meals start at $7.50 for a “Baby Mac” (one pound) and $9.50 for a “Mama Mac” (two and a half pounds). You start with a base of elbow noodles and cheddar cheese and customize from there with additional toppings, including a choice of eight different types of cheeses, nine veggie options, nine protein choices. You can then add six other customized options, including an extra buttery crumb topping, a Cayenne pepper and red pepper flake topping, and truffle oil. Antony suggests several Mac & Cheese combos, such as “Antonia’s Decadent Lobster Dish,” which brings together Gruyere cheese and lobster–or Sam’s Sizzling Steak, a spicy recipe that blends pepper jack with Sriracha steak and jalapeños. In short, Midnight Mac & Cheeserie offers decadence in a bowl! Antony welcomes customers to dine in from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on Friday and Saturday. Deliveries are available until 2:00 a.m. through GrubHub or Uber Eats. After sampling some of the delicious mac and cheese combos Friday night, make sure to order some mac and cheese your way to dine in or take home with you. In other words, “Let’s Get Cheesie!” Follow Me on Friday is one of my efforts to encourage my constituents to sample some of the 49th Ward’s finest restaurants, pubs, businesses and festivals. About once or twice a month on my Facebook page, I post the name and location of a local restaurant, pub, business or festival where I’ll be hanging out after work on Friday. The establishment offers specials for all my Facebook followers and their friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to check out one of the fine local 49th Ward businesses you may not have visited before. Previous Follow Me on Friday locations include Ethiopian Diamond II, 7537 N. Strongarm Robbery: 1300 block W Greenleaf

CASE# JA518238

Does anybody know the details of this case?

  • NoJoe NoMoore

Apparently there have been three separate incidents of this nature in the immediate ERP/Heartland Cafe area. The first two which occurred on 11/16 came out in the media Saturday night after a third incident in late evening hours on the night of 11/24-25. I don't know if they are actually related incidents.

  • NoJoe NoMoore

Why isn't this third incident being reported in the community alerts. It occurred well before the Alderman's or CPD's press release and email s? And why are they suppressing the details?

Let's see if the media follows the story:
Carjacking and murder charges have been filed against a Wisconsin man who was in a stolen vehicle during a crash that killed his alleged accomplice Wednesday morning on the South Side.

Deangelo M. Williams, 21, was charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, one felony count of robbery armed with a firearm and two felony counts of murder while committing another forcible felony, according to a statement from Chicago Police.

Williams and a 19-year-old man were wearing masks when they carjacked a male at gunpoint at 9:48 a.m. Wednesday as the victim was getting out of his vehicle in the 1000 block of West 61st Street, police said.

They drove off in the stolen vehicle with police pursuing them, police said. The stolen vehicle crashed less than 10 minutes later in the 4900 block of West Wentworth.

The 19-year-old man driving the stolen vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene...
Why do we point this out?
We were told in roll call in 007 that the surviving offender was charged with murder approved by the ASA only later the great office of Kim Foxxx denied the charges. Then the Chief of Detectives over turned them and charged him with murder again. You can only guess what's going to happen in court. Ridiculous.
