Log Cabin Republican Calls Police on Wrong Woman

In what appears to be another case of calling the police because someone is Black, Morry Matson, Log Cabin Republican candidate for Edgewater's Mayor, has a lot of explaining to do. His last claim to fame was promoting a multi-million dollar carnival boardwalk in front of lots of people's homes and cutting off their unobstructed views of the lake.

Black woman says CVS manager called police because she had wrong coupon
Camilla Hudson wanted to use a manufacturer's coupon at CVS on North Broadway on Friday night, but a manager who said he'd never seen a coupon like that called the police, she said in a Facebook post. "So, THIS just happened: I had the police called on me for attempting to use a coupon @ the CVS Pharmacy located at 6150 N.

We were not in the position to restore the library hours cut in 1992. However, we tried to find a way to keep our neighborhood library relevant. They were a popular attraction and were heavily used.
Alderman Moore’s office contributed computers that were made into learning stations. Students can learn to type and be drilled on basic arithmetic. Though these were not the state of the art PCs, their useful life was extended and well used by students of all ages.
As the lead organization of a city-wide coalition, the Friends of the Rogers Park Library successfully campaigned to restore the library hours in 1993 and Mary Dempsey was appointed Library Commissioner in 1994. She made it a priority to connect the Chicago Public Library to the Internet. When we opened on June 8, 1999, in a new facility, it had six top of the line desktops connected to the Internet. The Chicago Public Library for many more users was their only on-ramp to the Information Superhighway.
Unfortunately, branch library hours were again cut back in 2010 during the last economic download. Though our branch library still has shorter hours, we now have 24 PCs connected to the Internet, 12 on the Adult side, and 12 on the children’s side. We even have Cyber Navigators, funded by the Chicago Public Library Foundation to assist those who are using computers for the first time, and for those who need reminders on their lessons. There is even a scanner that will copy your old photos and documents into a jpg file, and for a small fee print copies.
Join the Friends of the Rogers Park Library and help keep our library relevant.

Comcast to end hyperlocal site EveryBlock, agrees to send users to rival Nextdoor
Comcast is pulling the plug on EveryBlock, the Chicago-based hyperlocal news site it revived four years ago. The website, which features blurbs about restaurant closings, building break-ins and community events, will go dark July 19, with a link steering EveryBlock users to sign up with Nextdoor, a rival hyperlocal platform.

Nextdoor requires "somewhat real names" but they are -not- all "real names". Everyblock was not at all perfect, but I will still miss it. The news aggregation was occasionally laughable, but it did start some useful discussions that might not have been started by a neighborhood poster, especially since the "neighborhoods" are defined much too tightly. I have had a Nextdoor ID since the previous time Everyblock was about to die, but I rarely used it or even checked it, since I have personally found only a few useful posts, mixed in with many things Everyblock would consider advertising.

  • I did learn a lot about local politics and gained a new perspective about our elected officials. That has definitely been an eye opener.

Could someone please suggest an authentic and not mediocre Mexican restaurant?

Having trouble finding a good Mexican restaurant in the RP area?
I am forced to go to the ones I'm familiar with that are authentic on Lawrence, Kedzie and elsewhere, like Big Wig tacos and burritos on LaSalle and Chicago Avenue ! I just would like a local Taco and not have to travel far.

THANKS RP citizens !

  • GaToR Cherokee I am a comedian, actor, singer

Edgewater tacos better be very fresh if they charge in a astounding $375 + $275 / taco !!

  • Jeffrey Littleton If you can't be a poet, be the poem.

It's south of RP but Carmela's on Lawrence just west of Broadway makes the best carnitas tacos around.

Apartment Rental

I'm looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment where I am about 40 minutes by transit to 175 N State street. I am a single woman so safety is a premium. $700-800 is my range. Any suggestions would be helpful. It doesn't have to be Roger's Park. Thank you .

  • steven beckerman Lifelong resident of the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Hate to say it, but in that price range, you're probably looking at studios, or sharing a larger apartment with roommates. That travel range would put you up near Loyola, or one of the red line stops nearby or to the south. Studios abound up and down Winthrop and Kenmore in Edgewater.

The CityKey Card is an optional, officially recognized government-issued identification card that you can use to access a range of public and private services. It is designed to reduce barriers to those who have difficulty accessing traditional government-issued identification, such as undocumented immigrants, youth, the homeless, transgender residents, domestic violence survivors, and those recently released from incarceration.

The Program’s goals have since grown to include discounts and other benefits for all of Chicago’s 2.7 million residents. This means that not only does the Chicago CityKey give Chicagoans the dignity and peace of mind that comes with having a government-issued ID, but it also serves as your key to Chicago– serving as your library card, Ventra card and benefits card for cultural institutions, sports teams and local businesses.

For more information on the CityKey program, including the documents you will need to obtain the card, visit:

"Chicago Police Officer Steve Ommundsen, who was among the first on the scene Friday. Ommundsen responded to a call of swimmers in trouble in the choppy waters off Loyola Beach. It was about 7:30 p.m. after lifeguards had gone home for the night. Ommundsen, himself a former Chicago lifeguard, immediately stripped to his underwear and dove in the water, swimming about 100 yards to a girl who was floating motionless in the water."

“She was barely conscious,” Ommundsen said. “She wasn’t really aware of what was happening.”

“Her body was already under the water,” he said. “I wish I would have been able to get them both.”

Officer Steve Ommundsen is a member of the patrol for our Beat 2431. He is the officer on the right-side in the picture I took on our beat walk with 24th District Commander Nieves, Kevin O'Neil from Alderman Moore's office, Carolina Juarez from the Rogers Park Business Alliance, and another outstanding officer in our beat Matt Mckenna on June 18.

I commend Officer Ommundsen for his lifesaving actions. His selflessness, putting his own life at risk, exemplifies the spirit of our 24th Police District whose officers who do their best to serve and protect us. The other picture shows the second watch bike officers who patrol the lakeshore of our neighborhood. Also, Alderman Moore is working with the Chicago Park District to make lifesaving gear readily available to first responders at our beaches.

The renters in one of the units leave their dog out for extended periods of time and the dog barks a LOT. I tried a nice letter when I moved in last summer, and was treated to a series of nasty texts in return, though the owners said they would buy a no-bark collar for the dog. Well, it's warm out again, and the dog is barking again. I want to go straight to the landlord now, but have no idea who it is.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Where is the security deposit?

How does one find if one's Security deposit is not comingled with the landlord's money? The building has more than 20 units

  • I think when tenants live out the security deposit they see it as a right. It is their money as they see it an really there is nothing you can do when they do that. If bad tenants and bad landlords were only in business with each other that might work. When I as a good landlord get a couple of bad apples I have to eat it. I have great tenants now.

  • d3 NoHo

Kuria: the law allows you to sue the landlord, and that all fees for your attorney and court would be paid by the landlord. There are attorneys that will take these cases with no cost to you except they take a cut of what you win (and they end up getting thousands in fees too paid by the landlord)

Pass the word, to never go swimming close to any of the piers in our neighborhood. Repeat the warnings to your children throughout the summer, each and every summer. Close to piers a dangerous undertow is created. Typically on the north side of the pier here in Chicago, due to the currents. So even in safe swimming conditions, close to a pier can become extremely dangerous.

That's great seeing folks working together to keep functional items out of landfills and in use by folks who need them. I routinely put usable items, or metals next to the trash so the pickers aren't spilling the trash out into the alley, or so the "metal men" can easily locate and repurpose the items. We had another attempted break in thru our bathroom window today. It was around 5:15 pm and my son was opening the front door for me when we heard a sound that was like something had flown into one of the fans. He ran into the bathroom and saw a guy with a box cutter slicing thru the screen. Naturally, the guy ran off when he heard my son yelling. Now the part I don't understand is, we live on the 3rd floor of a vintage building and the bathroom window is not easy to get to. You have to balance on the railing which slopes downwards. One side is a 3 story drop to cement and the other side is the stairs. This is the second attempt to get in thru the bathroom window; the first one happened in May. And to top it all, we got nothing that anyone would want. An old stereo that is broken; a computer that is at least 10 years old and is on it's last legs; no cell phones; an old antenna TV; no cash or jewelery of any value. Well you get the picture, nothing to write home about, that's for sure. Why anyone would risk a possible fatal fall to get their hands on this junk is beyond my comprehension! Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that home invaders are on the prowl. Lock up your homes, as well as your cars and try to stay safe!!!

My sister-in-law had several robberies in an apartment she had on Ravenswood in Edgewater. At first they could not figure out the entry point. Turns out it was the transom above her back door. Something was taken each time. She lived with her then teenage son. He is a good person, always has been. No affiliations that were suspicious. A pattern of what was being stolen became very obvious. Gifts from her long time ex. The gaming system he bought her son. Gifts from his parents. She had repeatedly offered these items back to him. He insisted he did not want them back. The break ins started right when she started dating her now husband. She changed locks, landlord helped her add burglar bars and other security measures. The neighbors were watching out for her and it kept happening. The ex always had an alibi but it was pretty obvious to everyone one that he was involved. One neighbor called the police after hearing noise in the apartment while she was at work, her son at school. The person was able to see an older teenager sliding through the transom, and two on the back porch. Unfortunately it didn't end until she moved. Seems dramatic but do you or your son possibly have a stalker?

Dog walk warning:Roundup application Sherwin & Sheridan SW corner

Roundup Pro application warning to my dog walking neighborhood friends. 7/3 2:30pm.
Me: Should I keep me dog off of it?
Him: Yes

  • There's suspected correlation between Roundup exposure and ADHD, oxidative stress, neural tube disorders, autism, disruption of the Vitamin A signaling pathways, digestive problems, serotonin impairment, various cancers, low levels of testosterone and chronic respiratory illnesses. Other than that it's quite safe and effective when used as directed.

  • To say nothing about cross pollination sans bee’s. Roundup is ☠️ not “safe” imho.

This generous one-time grant allows Gale to immediately begin construction of the clinic, which the school hopes to open in time for the beginning of the academic year in September.

I brought the health clinic initiative to the attention of Loyola’s administrators and requested a $25,000 grant from the university, which was the amount needed to start construction this summer. They generously agreed to my request.

This grant represents the largest one-time cash donation the university has ever provided and is reflective of Loyola’s continuing and growing commitment to Rogers Park’s schools. I am grateful for the university’s generosity.

Even if you did not have

Would had moved mountains for them so

    They love hard

Why have the youth landscapers been replaced by professionals?
I thought the Hockwater kids did a fine job.
And the price was right.

Looking for a referral for a cleaning person to clean a one bedroom condo near Clark and Pratt

I am looking for a Referral for someone who cleans condos. If you know someone who is good please message me back. The condo is a one bedroom.

  • Impossible to do. That’s why you get a free estimate.
    Pets or no?
    Stairs or no?
    Difficult places to access?
    800 sq ft? 1500? 2000?
    3 floors?

They need to eyeball it. The internet can’t tell you

  • headsup not available

$ 24.00/hour minimum 7 hours is what my company pays. Remember cleaning companies pay their employees benefits like social security and medical-so you are doing the right thing to employ a cleaner who works for a legitimate business.

Lost Wallet

I lost my wallet this morning in the area of Greenleaf - Glenwood - Morse. It's a black tri-fold fabric wallet with my ID, credit cards, and other information. I have canceled the credit cards and I'm having new ones issued.

If anyone finds anything that would have my name on it, please let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
