Flooded basement

I have about 12 inches of water in my basement from the recent storm that needs to be pumped out. Can anyone recommend someone honest and reliable?

In 1960, McKee Foods founder O.D. McKee was trying to come up with a catchy name for their new family-pack cartons of snack cakes. Packaging supplier Bob Mosher suggested using a family member's name. Thinking of what could be a good fit for the brand, O.D. arrived at the name of his 4-year-old granddaughter Debbie. Inspired by a photo of Debbie in play clothes and her favorite straw hat, he decided to use the name Little Debbie® and the image of her on the logo. Not until the first cartons were being printed did Debbie's parents, Ellsworth and Sharon McKee, discover that their daughter was the namesake of the new brand.

Approx 4 shots fired this morning 4100/4200 N. Lockwood from a passing car. Nothing but trouble coming from that corner apartment building across from the school. Police were notified . Be careful out there & report incidents.

It has corrupted the authorities and everyone in "charge". It's very sad who knows anymore who is "good or bad".@weebis you are so right on with your comment worse run city/county in the nation. I have nothing holding me here and I am for sure going to be lifting myself out of my comfort zone to move out of here. Giving so much money to this city and for what. I bet the segregation won't be happening in certain areas such as the one the mayor
Lives in. He will continue to keep himself and loved ones in there own "perfect" city living. People have no respect anymore and don't care they live for basically free and it has came to the point where they feel like it should be given to them and it should be given to them wherever they want and hey if they want someone else's things they feel they can take it or destroy property because you ask them not to sit on your porch or your car it's there world and we just live in it. Call the police for these reasons and they look or speak to like what's the problem here don't waste our time for nonsense they stole your converter on your car sorry maybe you shouldn't park it on the street it's all just pathetic and just continues to get worse.

As this city, county, and state circle the toilet, Arena's 'Gangbanger Paradise' at 5151 N. Northwest Highway will be the crowning turd for the northwest side demise.

Gunfire by violent felons released by Dart, not prosecuted by Foxx, coddled and celebrated by Emanuel and Preckwinkle will become the 'crickets of the night,' along with the sirens of responding ambulances and squad cars.

Bravo. Shakespeare couldn't have written a better tragedy himself.

BREAKING NEWS!!! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE...

From the Office of Mayor Wrong E. Manual

As a result of an intensive 10 year study from the University of Chicargo, the city council has voted for the immediate removal of all automobiles, vans, trucks or similar devices from within the city. The study clearly shows that 100% of all accidents involving injury to pedestrians and motorists or their passengers are associated with self powered motorized conveyances. Therefore, the only sound remedy is the removal of all such machines from our community.

Effective on December 1, 2017, any person possessing or operating an automobile, van, truck or similar device within the city limits will be arrested on felony one charges of willful pubic endangerment under the new municipal code (under home rule exception). There will be no second chance.

New transportation permits will be available for single or multiple horse, mule or bicycle drawn carriages at a rate varying from $50-200 per year. There will be an additional fine for failure to remove animal feces on the roadway of $50 per incident.

Because of their ability to exceed new speed limits of 10 MPH, genetically engineered transportation animals are forbidden and if suspected, a DNA sample will be taken. If found in violation, an additional fine of $1,000.

For those citizens requiring handicapped exemptions, rickshaw allowances may be granted upon full vetting and approval. Prevailing applicants must demonstrate they cannot walk from the corner of State and Madison to clerk's desk at city hall without having a heart attack or stroke.

Regardless of conveyance form, a city sticker priced at $500 per year will still be required for each axle of a conveyance.

Existing boot and impoundment ordinances will remain in force as modified for the new forms of conveyances.

Stay tuned for more details... LOL!

Well there are three other people on this block that have the signs in front of their homes and each has a 2 1/2 car garage, one on next block same thing! He sent in an appeal and is waiting the results, if he is denied again, then what, The garage he has is used for storage, 8 people living in the house all fully grown. He said he saw the Dept of Finance van come by on this last Monday, but he was on his way to a Dr's appt and could not stop and talk to the man.

It is a long walk 1 1/2 blocks to get to his house with walker or crutches.
Thank you

Your comment is rude and ignorant since you have no idea what I have dealt with in my family. I took care of my grand mother til she past, I am currently caring for both my disabled elderly parents and I have a diabled child so you can keep your comments to yourself as well. SMH

The topic of this post was how easy it should be for people who use their garage spots as storage to claim dibs on space in the public way. Several of us who have handicapped family members feel like this merits a discussion. If every single one of us who has a handicapped family member living in our houses claimed permanent dibs on a spot, street parking in JP would be a mess.

Does anybody have a clue why construction is starting at 7am and going until 10pm? After calling the city, they told me they think emergency. I don't think so, No Parking signs have been posted since late September. Every day more construction equipment shows up. Last night homes on Sunnyside had No Water all day. There was also no notice given to anybody. The Alderman isn't telling, but say they will try to get the construction to start a bit later in the morning. If I turn on my lawn mower before 8am I know I can get a ticket for noise. The city obviously is special and can run heavy duty machines at 7am. The machinery is shaking the building. As residents I think we are entitled to know what is going on, especially if the water is going to be turned off....

  • Initially they projected being finished with this work by November 3. Let's hope they keep to this schedule.

  • Something to consider, distribution of hand written notices so that those without a computer know what is going on, when and why... Not having water and not being given notice really sucks.

Anybody have a great pediatrician and OBGYN (and hospital) they would recommend?

I'm looking for a great OBGYN and a good hospital to have my baby at. (I've looked at the hospital reviews and because of them I'm kind of wanting to have my baby in another state at this point.) Please help! I also haven't been able to find a pediatrician or OB with great reviews who is nearby. I'd prefer someone close but am willing to go downtown too. Thank you so much for recommendations! I really appreciate it 😊

I’ve had two with NorthShore and had great experiences both times. I went to one appointment at Swedish Covenant and never returned, so I can’t compare much, but other Moms I’ve talked with about it, I’ve had much better experiences. Their app gives you email access to the Dr or Nurse for questions, and they almost always respond in 4 hours or less, frequently 2 hours or less. Delivery experiences were great both times. I had one nurse I wasn’t a fan of, but out of two entire deliveries, I’ll call that pretty good (and I was probably crabby.)

There’s an OB and Ped office on Touhy and babies are delivered at Evanston Hospital. Ped recommendation is Amanda Britt, OB is the office on Touhy (Drs are Jones, Thorpe, Conte, Horowitz, Muresan, all great.) I know there are closer options, but if you have a car, the care you receive is worth it!

    Good luck!

  • Prentice women's hospital with Northwestern Memorial. Choose a pediatrician from Lurie Children's Hospital (formerly Children's Memorial).

  • Thanks so much, I'll definitely check those out!! I had one appointment with Swedish Covenant and wasn't very impressed.

Boarded up apartment bldg on 3700 Central?

Does anyone know what gives with the boarded up apartments on 3700 (ish) Central. Looks like a gut to condo and they're waiting for all tenant leases to expire? Been this way for a long while now and is not a pretty sight.

  • If you are referring to the one on Byron/Central, it is a huge eyesore. I believe former slumlord had a ton of code violations that where tied up in court and never corrected and then home was foreclosed. Now it sits there as an eyesore. Hoping some developer buys it up and turns it into a nice rehab.

There was 15 feet 7" if he moved forward that was open for him to park. Luckily there was room to get out if I backed up. But one day there may not be! He does this all the time because he thinks the spot is his, reserved parking, I told him this is a public street, not such thing as reserved parking, unless handicapped or other sign(s). I saw him this morning he said there was no room in front of him, like I said, why did you not move up, I showed him the picture with my son holding yesterdays paper in his hand. He said he did not realize he did that, I told him you knew, I know some people here will say, brake fluid, let the air out of his tires, key his car, but I do not want to start a war, besides, I am not that type of person!!! As far as I know there is no law, for instance, that says a car has to be at least 2-3 feet from other cars bumper to allow that car room to get out???? Thanks For Listening.... God Bless

@ella I have the same problem as you. the permit parking I pay for is basically useless. I live on a short corner so there's only space for 6 cars between the signs, but nobody pulls all the way to the sign and then also leaves 4-6' of space in between each other, so there's only ever ACTUALLY space for 4 or 5 cars. that's not even mentioning the two cars owned by elderly neighbors that are only moved once or twice a week.

always wind up a solid block or so away. wouldn't care if it were once or twice a week, but it's more like 6-7 days a week.

  • They do this all the time on Laramie, if I happen to be sitting out in front and see someone parking in this fashion, I try to nicely mention it. Some people respond, others ignore me. Glad to have a garage

Red light cameras @ foster and northwest highway

Not only does traffic get stuck in the intersection people cut through the bowling alley. On my way to work at 8 am at least 6 cars did that. From nwhy to foster making even harder to get through the intersection. It's a big mess.

  • With all due respect to the Waze comment, should we really have to resort to finding different routes to navigate our city to avoid these cameras and the traffic they cause? Enough is enough. Everyone just wants to get where they are going without having to analyze a route because our city has a budget problem and mismanages money. Things should be simplified, not more complicated. And all the politicians wonder why we have disdain for them. Be reasonable and stop all this nonsense. Nobody buys the safety reasons.

  • Brushman4 Serving the best since "53"

That's why my idea of getting the terrible drivers off the road makes sense, who wouldn't like 50% less traffic?

Entire block of street lights out on Warwick - Long to Lindner.

Was there some electrical work being done near the 5400 block of Warwick? The entire street is pitch black at night. I reported 4 days ago and nothing. Not cool!!

  • PortageRules Love Portage Park!

It is. The alley light behind 5412 is still out. But, that light might require more work as the kids who congregate around there like to randomly throw rocks and they may have hit it like they did my house recently.

  • It’s a different request for an alley light out. I can submit it if you need help

Mental Health Therapy Friendly Office Space in the area?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of available rental space for a mental health therapy office in the Old Irving park, Kilbourn park, Irving Park, and Portage Park areas. I am more than happy to sublet from existing practices. I am hoping to find an office suitable for individual and family therapy, and it would be amazing to find a group therapy space as well.

Thank you so much for your time.

  • Weebis SWCC Vet. (Ret.)

Thanks Mute. I was just curious. The place has sort of a mysterious aura.

  • Even my explanation has a mysterious aura. Due to privacy laws its hard to exactly say what kind of patients are getting treatment there bit that's what I could dig up.

Caught Man casing my house

Drove up to my house on block of 4900 W Warwick to see a young man walking down the side of my house. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with hood on "Kenny from South Park" style so face was not visible. I asked what is he doing and he shrugged me off and started walking fast around the corner. Noticed my back gate from alley wide open as well as side gate. Ran to chase and get picture but be had disappeared. Be on watch and keep windows locked. My back window was wide open and if hadn't came home, he probably would have broken in.
