312 Dining Diva added 13 new photos — eating ...

I should’ve known something was up when I casually attempted to make reservations at Proxi and the only times I could get were for 5:30 or 8:45. Of course, I had to pull some strings to score a better reso, and I’m so happy I did! Proxi is a masterpiece. It’s from the same team behind Michelin-starred Sepia, yet you’ll find a completely different concept, personality, flavor profiles and price points (Hint: It’s way less expensive). The globally inspired menu is broken down into three categories: vegetables, seafood and meat. Executive Chef Andrew Zimmerman gives each section equal justice. Tempura elotes and grilled sweet potato salad were huge hits, and offered Mexican and Mediterranean accents, respectively. Coal-roasted mussels and fried fish collars in a Thai garlic-chili sauce were inspired by Asian influences, of course. The duck dumplings and Thai beef salad of Wagyu sirloin were equally impressive. Finally, because it’s a #dryjanuary for me, I was so happy to see Proxi truly understand the concept of #mocktails. The bar team has thoughtfully considered this menu, which perfectly pairs with the cuisine. They’ve even listed the flavor profiles for each of the four drinks, from “fruity, spicy, tart” to “smoky, bitter, effervescent.”

Thank you Maggie and Katie for finding my Mothers dog

My 85 year old mothers beagle got out of the yard and thanks to Katie and Maggie and i do hope i got your names right, Cuddles was found and got her back to her panic stricken owner.
You phoned and i met you about noon today near Chicago Ave and Western Ave.
I could not chat and truly express my thanks for my 85 yr old mother on the snowy icy sidewalks searching and in a panic.
You offered a lift but living a block away the ride would have been too round about.
I just want to say THANKS

We're both dog lovers so we're glad to know that she wasn't hurt in traffic and that she was returned to her home without harm. Funny story actually, I've been thinking about getting a dog for a couple months now. I took finding Cuddles as a sign that I should get one myself so Katie and I went out and adopted a dog later that day. All in all, I should be thanking you (or Cuddles) because without this incident I probably would not have adopted my new Bernese Mountain Dog, Lucy!

    Hope you and your family are doing well and Cuddles is staying out of trouble. Thank you!

I don't think anybody at the party was all that impressed with you either Steve or you wouldn't be spending your time on EveryBlock with all us dumb paupers. Poor Steve. Too smart and rich for everyone.

Vandals damage Holy Family window; five other churches hit

At Old St. Pat’s, 700 W. Adams St., sometime between 10 p.m. Dec. 20 and 10 a.m. the following morning, someone smashed a glass block window but did not enter the church, police said.

“It reminds us to always be forgiving and understand people are coming from other places,” said Linda Lavery as she helped distribute food to the homeless at Holy Family Church, 1080 W. Roosevelt Rd. “At Christmas time, people do have a lot of emotional issues. We are called to be forgiving.”

At St. Procopius Church, 1641 S. Allport St., a thief broke through a glass panel in a side door to steal money from the candle box, Sylvia Pels, church operations director, said. “A surveillance camera photographed the thief, but could not capture his face.”

Pels said the St. Procopius burglary was at 2 a.m. Dec. 4. At 9:30 a.m. the same day, a thief broke into St. Pius Parish, 1919 S. Ashland Ave. No one at St. Pius could be reached for comment.

On Dec. 7, someone tried to break into St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 813 W. Roosevelt Rd., smashing a glass panel in a front door. “The alarm was on, so they left,” the pastor, Rev. Walter Mallo, said.

Fr. Gabriel said he was told vandals also broke two windows at the former St. Adalbert Church, 1650 W. 17th St., which has been purchased by an arts group. Many windows in the church and its adjacent buildings were already boarded up.
