Mixed-income housing developer for 5150 Northwest Hwy reviews options after state denies tax credits

State board explains its reasoning for not approving tax credits for Northwest Highway proposal, while a local pastor charges that the housing authority is enabling the “forces of white supremacy” to maintain segregation on the Northwest Side. http://nadignewspapers.com/2018/05/21/fate-of-5150-n-northwest-hwy-uncertain-following-tax-credit-decision/

Fate of 5150 N. Northwest Hwy uncertain following tax-credit decision - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG The fate of a controversial mixed-income housing proposal in Jefferson Park remains uncertain after the Illinois Housing Development Authority last week did not approve low-income housing tax credits for the proposal. "We are still reviewing our options at this point," said project developer Joshua Wilmoth of Full Circle Communities.

  • White supremacy? LOL

  • PennyPenguin Chillin' out on EB

Why does anyone want to live here so bad? We barely have a Starbucks. And, why are people jumping to conclusions that senior citizens, veterans, and lower income people are not white? So, no white people were going to live in that building? Why are they equating poor with not white?

5150 N Northwest Hwy proposal left off state housing authority agenda

Preliminary agenda for state board meeting on low-income housing tax credits does not include proposal for 5150 N Northwest Hwy. Barring any late changes to the agenda, it is not clear what impact the lack of tax credits would have on the feasibility of the housing proposal for this year. The developer, Full Circle Communities, could not be reached for comment. Tax credits are often required for affordable housing developments. One local housing group has questioned the neutrality of the state board. http://nadignewspapers.com/2018/05/15/5150-project-not-on-preliminary-agenda-for-low-income-housing-tax-credits/

5150 project not on preliminary agenda for low-income housing tax credits - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG The proposed 75-unit housing development at 5150 N. Northwest Hwy. is not among the 26 projects which the Illinois Housing Development Authority plans to approve for low-income housing tax credits, according to a tentative agenda for the authority's May 18 meeting.

Daniel D-You are correct about our 'great alderman'. He is truly a politician at work and I think there is something behind this whole 5150 project to get all of these low income section 8 applicants into this building. There has to be some kind of kick back of some sort. These guys cannot ever be trusted b/c they could care less about public opinion. It will always be all about the $$$$ with these guys in power. They are really expert at creating smoke screens. I have to sometimes wonder how these guys sleep at night?? Probably better than the rest of us honest folks IMHO. Just my general opinion...

We need to organize and STOP this project from happening!

Incident on Kennedy Early Sunday A.M.

Does anybody know what happened on the eastbound Kennedy I-90 Sunday morning around 6 a.m.?

It happened just east of the Austin Ave exit and it appeared that first responders had the Kennedy completely shut down. Thankfully I was able to exit at Austin Ave to avoid the gridlock but others were not so lucky.

  • I keep getting thumbs up for this post.

This is somewhat puzzling as I'm asking a question about a presumed incident on the Kennedy last Sunday morning.

    Does anyone know what happened???

Residents not happy with plans to start installing Wilson-Lamon digital billboard on Monday - Nadig Newspapers - Northwest Side Local Newspapers
by BRIAN NADIG A plan to start installing a digital billboard on Monday, May 7, in the eastbound lane of traffic in front of the Mayfair Pumping Station, 4850 W. Wilson Ave., was not well-received at a May 2 community meeting.
    http://nadignewspapers.com
  • Our Alderman voted against this deal when it was up in the city counsel. His hands are tied by the other Aldermen who approved this deal. Though I am not a fan of going down to 1 lane, this is what a compromise looks like. At least there will remain 2 way traffic through the area.

Postal workers walking across lawns!

Has anyone experienced this? I have seen this on a weekly basis. JP Post Office says you need to put it in writing and submit to post office to have it stopped. The complaint form is pre-populated with this #1 complaint. This is absurd to have to submit this request in writing only good for 1 year. Is this something new? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

  • I would not send my child to Pope Francis. They can’t even keep a principal as he got fired after only being there a year. And the previous principal was only at St Tars for what about two years. Ever since the catholic schools merge it is no longer a nice neighborhood Catholic school and your really not getting a better education. I would consider the public schools. Or any of the other Catholic school. You have to trust me on this.

You may recall that in 2015, the city attempted to permanently close the intersection of Lamon and Wilson to all vehicle traffic without having any conversation with my office or the community. After I halted construction with my vehicle, they agreed to work through this issue with us. After several years of discussions between the Mayor's Office, the Chicago Department of Transportation, the Department of Water Management, the Law Department, the Finance Department, and my office, they are now ready to present their third plan for this intersection to the community. The meeting will be 6:30 pm Wednesday, May 2, at the Copernicus Center Annex, 5214 W. Lawrence. In the discussions, city lawyers indicated that a digital billboard must be installed at the site due to a contract the city entered into with the billboard company, and no other site is available. (By the way, I voted against the ordinance authorizing these billboards on city property back in 2013 in part because of concerns about the contract.) To try and accommodate both the contractually-required billboard and access to the community, CDOT has created a plan where Lamon and Wilson would remain two-way with a stop sign at the billboard. Previously, they offered a plan where Lamon would be one way at the billboard, but that plan was scrapped after a community meeting in 2015. https://chicago.suntimes.com/?post_type=cst_article&p=1055656

Got Carson's Gift Cards? -- Use them FAST!

Read today about Carson's closing. Had a Carson's Gift Card sitting around since Christmas. Called Carson's to verify its worth. A recorded message announced that as of April 18, 2018, the entire Bon-Ton inventory has been purchased by a liquidation company and Carson's Credit Cards are no longer valid for use; but Carson's Gift Cards are still valid.

Artificial Grass for Backyard with Dogs

Hi! Has anyone installed artificial grass in their backyard? We have one big dog but the neighbors’ dogs come over to play. What company did you use? Thanks!

Alderman John Arena shared Time Out Chicago's...

The Chicago City Clerk's office launched the City Key ID program today. The new city ID will also act as a Ventra card and a library card. Cardholders can also receive an array of benefits at various businesses and organizations throughout the city. Residents can begin scheduling appointments with the City Clerk’s office to apply for a CityKey. The first 100,000 applicants will receive the card free of charge. Cards will be printed starting on Monday, April 30 at Kennedy King College’s W Building located at 6301 S. Halsted Street from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM. Additional mobile printing events will be taking place in neighborhoods across Chicago. I plan on hosting a representative from this program at the City Sticker sale in my office (4754 N. Milwaukee) on Friday, June 22, from 10 am to 2 pm. You can find additional mobile printing events by visiting https://www.chicityclerk.com/chicagocitykey/how-apply/make-appointment/citykey-mobile-sites. Rain Barrel Resources

Hi,
Has anyone found a good resource for rain barrels? I brought this up a few months ago, but all the programs had expired. I spoke to our alderman's office and they haven't done this in a while. I see Home Depot, Amazon, etc. have them for about $80. Craigslist has some posts too, but I've heard they can be contaminated even if they are "food grade" material.

If this is a dead end, I've found these sites that look like a decent option.

  • Costco has them.

  • A neighbor threw one out in the alley behind 4500 block of Lavergne and Laporte. It was still there this morning - and garbage day is Friday. It look exactly like the orange one pictured above and looks to be in good shape.
