St. Bruno school is the best!

Back in 2011, after an extensive academic research, tours, and open houses looking for the top elementary school to send my only daughter, at the time, I casually visited St. Bruno Catholic School. I was then, and have always been welcome by their cordial secretaries, Mrs. Kubick and Mrs. Rose. Back in 2011, after an extensive academic research, tours, and open houses looking for the top elementary school to send my only daughter, at the time, I casually visited St. Bruno Catholic School. I was then, and have always been welcome by their cordial secretaries, Mrs. Kubick and Mrs. Rose. I was instantly invited for a school tour and was able to witness first hand many neurons firing among the students. I truly believe this environment to be conducive to high educational level, high spiritual standards, as well as a high sense of commitment to one another. At St. Bruno, the teachers are extremely dedicated to the student growth as a whole. And the rest of the staff enthusiastically participates in their continued asuccess. I was surprised to learn how the eight graders actively interacted with the students in Kindergarden, and how the school dynamics allowed for the school building to feel like a safe and joyful home. I highly believe that the best gift for my children is their education. And, I will do everything in my power for them to get the best! Therefore, as a mother of two now, I highly recommend you this magnificent school!

Private driveway ordinance???

I always thought there was a city law against unauthorized public parking in the space directly in front of an entrance/exit to a private home's driveway ( i.e. blocking access to it by the homeowners and household's visitors
own vehicles).

I always thought there was a city law against unauthorized public parking in the space directly in front of an entrance/exit to a private home's driveway ( i.e. blocking access to it by the homeowners and household's visitors
own vehicles).

That is happening more than I can ever remember, in front of my residence and I want to put a stop to it. Before I copy the license plate number and turn it over to the police for ticketing (and or towing), I want to inform any new people on the block of my intent so they have fair advance warning. Therefore, I would like to know the exact city ordinance (if there is one). I have looked, but cannot locate anything.

If anyone out there knows, I would be obliged if the ordinance was posted here. You would think common sense and neighborly courtesy would be enough, but even "neighbors" these days don't often do the right thing....

Thanks for any assistance in locating such an ordinance.

  • Javier we had this issue brought up at our CAPS meeting. They did ticket the cars, and returned the person repairing the vehicles to the city. It is still on going but getting better. So try going to your CAPS meeting. Good luck!

  • Thank you, I will attend the CAPS meeting

CTA's Proposed Budget Includes 25-Cent Fare Hike, No Cuts to Service Hours, Frequency
Welp, we can't say it came as a surprise. A November 8 letter from the Regional Transit Authority to the CTA warned that the transit agency needed to raise fares to plug a $33 million budget hole, the result of last summer's state budget deal, or else face massive service cuts.

Good points indeed. Thanks chi techie, I never knew that about the 50% at the farebox.

Another reason , to some degree at least, for a decreased ridership is the Divvy bike. A divvy mile is a passenger mile, how many of those would have otherwise been CTA miles is hard to say, there must have been a study/poll of it by now?

The thing about Divvy is, some of the ridership it is siphoning off (in a good way...) from ridership is the 2nd or 3rd leg of a trip. A commuter takes train or bus, pays full fare then transfers to a Divvy bike, or vice versa.

That means 1 less bus rider, but the same number of full-fare paying rider. There is the loss of that 25cent transfer for most of those trips, and one extra seat on that bus which helps over-crowding...especially at peak times.

  • It's called farebox recovery ratio, and is used worldwide:

Don't forget Uber/Lyft, some people are willing to pay a few extra bucks for better transportation.

Archer ave & Francisco Safety Island

What alderman, city planner, or person was responsible for the safety Island installed at the intersection of Archer ave & Francisco?. This will impede the flow of the traffic on Archer and will create a real nice mess of traffic and air pollution during rush hour and winter driving. Why weren't residents notified of this? Was a permit issued for this waste of taxpayers money?

  • Fellow Resident-Non PC liflong B.P. resident.

Who are they? Still want it out cause they did not advertise this well enough!

  • peter jachimiec over taxed homeowner

2 years ago they had a hearing and they put it in now? How did they get the word out? In the Brighton Park Life news?
