Doorbell Ringing Near Milwuakee and Kildare

Has anyone's doorbells been ringing from 1 am to for 4 am lately? My family and I are quite worried about this incident. There was no banging of doors, but the doorbells were just at it.

  • Has this happened more than once? Do you have a wireless doorbell? After I installed one I bought at Home Depot, my doorbell would ring but there’d be no one on my porch. I was perplexed for months until I noticed that every time this happened there was someone at the door on my neighbor’s porch across the street. Their wireless doorbell was apparently set to the same frequency so whenever someone pushed their doorbell, it rang at my house.

  • Same here with the wireless doorbell. We had to finally get rid of ours, after we realized it rang everytime there was someone at the door of the house across the street from us. Hope that is all it is for you. If not, I would be installing cameras.

Read All About It! FAiR Newsletter February 2018 is Out - Jet Noise and Health

Greetings My Neighbors,

Sharing this with you from the Fair Allocation in Runways (FAiR) Coalition. The lead story is about the impact of airplane noise on and in our lives.

JET NOISE AND HEALTH

Chicago and suburban residents under the O’Hare flight paths currently experience jet noise in the range of 65 - 110 decibels on a 24/7 basis. Those living immediately adjacent to the boundary of O’Hare, like the residents of Park Ridge, Bensenville, and the 41st Ward, experience noise levels close to 120 decibels (the sound at which aircraft take off).

Why is it so that is now an unwritten rule that people can put their furniture to reserve public property ? We all know that we can't all do that, and it's always the same people, the folks that feel like they are entitled to things. We got like 1 foot of snow, nobody has shoveled the street, all the spots are their due to cars that were there during the snowfall, yet immediately 5-6 spots had furniture on them.
It amazes me that some people think that only because they put a chair on the street I will park a block away from my house when I get back from work. This might've been an OK practice back in the day when most people had decent values, but nowadays you only get the douche-bags in society abuse these thoughtless, unwritten rules.
I don't understand why the city can't start enforcing the actual regulations and toss furniture off public property and issue litter tickets to people that won't comply.
And yes, I can kinda understand it if we got the same blizzard as several years ago, but for 1 foot of snow...seriously ? Just park like the rest of your neighbors and if you have to shovel for 5 min - big deal...

Dibs

Well here's the thing I am 65 shoveled out my spot and have one car not 5 or 6 like many so I think it only fair the city does give you a warning and th garbage men will pick up stuff on the street after a resonable amount of time I do have a garage but no way I could get through the alley I would rather be in the garage so I did not also have to clean off my car plus I ran my snow blower down my whole block so my parking spot is my reward

  • i know what you mean about the alley, the ruts are so bad people are always getting stuck, plus there is no where to put the snow, esp. if you are in the middle of the block.
You think the city could eventually go plow thru the alley in snow storms over 8".

  • Brushman4 Serving the best since "53"

The city says no plowing of alleys, because doing so would collapse garage doors! Just hire someone with a backhoe and open trailer and have them haul the snow out of there.

Koch Foods?

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in the area, but I noticed there's a large chicken processing plant nearby. It seems like this could be quite a nuisance and I had some questions for the neighborhood. Is the facility noisy at odd hours? Do they actually slaughter chickens there, or is it just processing? I'm worried about seeing or hearing truckloads of live birds. I'm out and about very early in the morning.

  • Can anyone speak to the smell during the summer? We are considering purchasing in the Terraces and wondering if the smell is still an issue. Since it’s winter and cold outside we haven’t been able to notice any smells, but am worried that changes in the summer! Thank you!

  • I never had an issue with smell there, lived nearby and drove by a lot. As the alderman said, they don’t have live chickens there. You can sometimes smell the commerical bakery on Kolmar which is nice!

Want to know more about this national holiday? Keep reading.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent
question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Against what seemed like
impossible odds, Dr. King and scores of his fellow citizens of all races came
together and, ultimately, helped bend the moral arc of the universe toward
justice. In recognition of Dr. King’s incredible legacy of service to all, Congress
designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of
service in 1994, and charged the Corporation for National and Community
Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Today's commemoration of the MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 15 is an opportunity to remember that history. It is also a time to consider how much work still remains to fulfill Dr. King’s dream.

Sewer back-up & basement drain flooding

We are experiencing a basement drain flooding and sewer back up for a couple of days now. A plumber came to rode the pipes and pumped the backed up dirty water, but they can't get their rodding snake to get to the street - something is blocking it.
We wonder if this might be caused by the recent street utility work - some pipes work and some Poeple's Gas work.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? We are the condo building on Gunnison and Kenneth's corner.

  • good advice from John, I'd follow it

  • Chandra Lynn Dagley Pre-Medicine Chaser From AP

Dead of winter last year, I want to say. I am on Avers. All good suggestion above me, we had someone come out with a camera, and it was a multifocal problem, because the neighbor (small bungalow) also had issues. Drain tiles were indeed a problem., and they are right about where city problem ends and ours began and some issues within the building where the landlords replaced some old pipe.
