Move to Hermosa?

Hi!

We are thinking of moving to the area (near Armitage and Cicero). Would you recommend the neighborhood? Look elsewhere? Just trying to see what the residents think about the safety and crime around there. Thanks!

  • I agree with you " Jordon" , because I to heard the same "gunshots " in the area last night..

  • Lee

Alright, thanks everyone. It seemed like a family-friendly neighborhood with kids playing outside. I've been in Logan Square near Humbolt Park and the neighborhoods seems similar.

Gunshots at Tripp and Wabansia

Anybody hear these last night? Sounded like two rounds of approximately 10 shots a piece that occurred around midnight. I could hear them quite clearly from Keeler Ave. Does anyone have any information on it?

Chicago, 30th Ward Crime - Chopin Park Gangbangers

The following video portrays the true situation that 30th Ward residents live under Ald. Ariel Reboyras. Who will send their child to a school in an area that has clearly been neglected. And not to digress, but Notre Dame High School for Girls, which was also in the 30th Ward closed because of Ald. Reboyras' policies as well. Higher taxation and higher crime don't translate into higher enrollment into these neighborhood schools. Watch St. Patrick High School to follow the same fate if Ariel Reboyras gets re-elected to four more years in 2019. ‪

  • I'm not a Reboyras fan but he had nothing to do with Notre Dame for Girls closing. It just wasn't a good school and parents are not going to waste their money sending their children there.

  • Friendly Neighbor Chicago Needs Some Change

The area isn't becoming that enticing to raising a family, let alone to send their kids to schools in the area.

  • Tom Concerned Neighbor

Your post is almost two years old and shows today 2018 Ald. Reboyras is an out of touch, in over his head, rubberstamp Alderman. He supports Rahm Emanuel almost 100% of the time. The guy is soft on crime and he's the Chairman of Public Safety! If he can't take care of his own "home" neighborhood, he definitely can't take care of the whole city.
I will work precincts yo get people to vote him out!

Shootings in Hermosa

Hi everyone,

I’ve just moved here, near Pulaski and Fullerton. I work a late second shift job and since the weathers been nice I leave my windows open. I come home, shower, make dinner.

Always always always around 3-4am I hear gunshots ring out in the near distance. Almost on a nightly basis. Is this common in the neighborhood? Will it get worse as the summer months start to come? I was eating lunch last Saturday and heard the shots...

Always always always around 3-4am I hear gunshots ring out in the near distance. Almost on a nightly basis. Is this common in the neighborhood? Will it get worse as the summer months start to come? I was eating lunch last Saturday and heard the shots ring out down the block from me, very close.

Police are pretty negligent in this district yeah? I keep reading how bad they are and I haven’t seen any crime reports for shootings around my area. Just curious, stuck in a year lease so I just want to make the best of it.

Thanks!

That is what a good neighbor does. Thank you for standing up against crime when others will not.

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

And if police go under cover or act like they are residents of a neighborhood that is terrorized by gang activities and these officers make arrests you have lawyers who will represent the suspects and go before a judge and proclaim that this is a form of entrapment the judge then buys into it and the bangers that were arrested are right back out on the street and this is justice.

Rica Arepa Venezuelan Café Makes Some Seriously Hearty Arepas
Published today at 12:00 p.m. Husband-and-wife owners Kharim Rincon and Maria Uzcategui make seriously hearty arepas. The corn cakes come off the griddle crisp and thin before being split and stuffed with so much meat, cheese, and other stuff that you practically have to unhinge your jaw to take a bite.

Last week my neighbors tires were slashed, there's noise of shootings on the weekends and yesterday some idiot set fire to some trash cans in our alley. One of the garbage cans caught fire very quick and spread to our garage. Luckily our neighor caught it and put it out before the fire department arrived. We do have damage to the corner of our garage but it could have been so much worse, since our car was parked in the garage. My husband and I are the new Block Captains and I will be speaking with our Alderman about this. I just hope people are aware of the changes going on and they are calling 911 and reporting things they see. We have to stand together as a community or it will get worse.

Have you been in contact with the police district?

  • Yes, we filed a police report. Who mentioned there has been an increase in crime in the area.

  • I miss the cool vibe and good food of Grandma J's that was bullied out of that location by some anti-G terrorists who broke windows and painted hateful graffitis. But I will stop in and try these! It is nice to have a Latina comida choice nearby that isn't deep fried! Looks great!

In Home Daycare Hermosa/Logan/Humboldt

Hello! I am near Armitage and Pulaski and am looking for infant care at an in home daycare. Does anyone know of anything affordable nearby that they would recommend? Would love a Spanish speaking program but my significant other doesn’t speak much Spanish so having a care provider who can speak some English would be desirable for when he picks up/drops off.

  • I highly recommend Drops of Wisdom daycare. My son started there when he was 12 weeks and still goes after school (he's in kindergarten). They are near Diversey and Kostner and are bilingual.

    https://www.facebook.com/dropsofwisdomdaycare/

  • catlady for the love of cats, lets get along!

on Pulaski south of Armitage before Cortland there is a home day care.

  • My kids go to Pillows Cove Learning Center near Palmer and Kostner. They each started there at 12 weeks. The women who run it are so wonderful, caring, and communicative. They are not Spanish speaking.

They used to be called Caterpillar Cove, but it was too similar to another daycare in town so they had to change it. Here is their website under the old name: http://caterpillarcoveinc.com/
