Lost dog on Montrose in Albany Park

My wife just came across this dog on Montrose near lawndale. The dog had no collar and she was unable to catch it. Does anyone know this dog? I'm hoping he/she finds its' way home

Throwing away 2 sofas

These 2 sofas are pretty worn down and beat up so pretty sure no non-profit will accept them. So I called Alderman Mell's office for help. I asked them if the city still does bulk pick up as I am looking to throw these out. They took my info and said they'd look into it and never called me back. I did follow up the day after I called. Let's leave any comments about the alderman's office for another post....

Let's leave any comments about the alderman's office for another post.

So now I turn to EveryBlock. My main focus here is to get rid of the sofas. Will the city garbage people take these sofas away? If not, do i need to rent a truck to go dump these 2 sofas somewhere? If so, where can I go dump them?

One sofa is a 3 seater and another is a 2 seater.

  • Yeah, you gotta call 311, and make sure they give you a bulk pickup request number. Had someone dump a sofa behind our house and I called 311 just to give them the heads up, and they gave me a confirmation number, just in case the city got on my case I could go back to them and say "Hey, I did call it in, don't fine me, here's the request number"

I threw out a pretty big sectional last November. The reg. garbage took it after like 2 days. They didn't fine us.

2 hispanic males with gun

Today at around 630am at Belmont and Kimball I witnessed 2 shirtless hispanic males walking south on Kimball and one of them was trying to hide a gun in front of his pants. I called 911 to report them. Hopefully police responded right away and took these 2 punks off the street.

  • Good job Juan! If you were able to describe to 911 their height, color of their shoes, and any visible tattoos that is data the cops can use to actually arrest them.

Anyone calling 911 the more detailed data you provide the better chance society has.

Odd event at School and Avers

Odd event near the park on School Street. Walking by CVS I see first a battalion chief, then a deputy district chief go the wrong way up the street and stop by the park. See an engine standing there, but no bystanders, no sign of EMS. A little further up the block there is one CPD SUV. It's surrounded by firefighters but only two or three cops. No one in it. FF completing paperwork on the hood of the SUV. All personnel present, both police and fire, are very quiet. No one in the neighborhood paying any attention to them, no distraught bystanders, etc. Never saw or heard any follow up response, such as ambulance.

What happened last night

There were cops all over the streets and helicopters on top my neighbor said that someone got shot but saw nothing on the new

  • If you are hoping for a response, the location to which you are referring should be provided.

  • Maz ethnic/cabaret accordionist, bungalow owner

What CubsHawksBears said. I did a separate post on NextDoor urging people to please give a location when posting about events or crime. We don't need to know your exact address, just a general area, i.e. Belmont & Pulaski, 3600 block of N. St. Louis, etc.

  • I heard them and saw them overhead, roughly circling around Milwaukee/Pulaski and probably on the other side of the freeway along Pulaski. Seemed like another helicopter was further north - maybe as far as Wilson? Spotlights used along Pulaski near Cornelia. Happened roughly 8:30 to 9:30 Thursday night. Didn't go outdoors, so can't comment on police activity on the ground. The helicopter closest to Pulaski/Cornelia flew very low.

Found Dog Chihuahua Mix Male, Blue Eyes

We found a dog who looks to be a Chihuahua Mix on June 6 near Diversey and Ridgeway. He is all white with a few tan spots and Blue Eyes, Weighs 11 lbs and not neutered. He had no collar and no chip. We have posted on Lost pets Illinois, Chicago Northside Lost & Found pets, Pawboost, posted posters around the neighborhood and reported him to the local police precincts. Posting on here just occurred to me today. We have not heard anything from anyone at all, were taking care of him but really hope to find his family, hes a really good boy, he deserves to be home with his family.

After putting up with this for 2 years, I am done. The neighbor across the alley from me blocks the alley 1-2 days per week with what appears to be a car repair business. Multiple cars get parked in the alley behind my garage and make it a pain for me to leave my house. Incidentally, I work from home but have to leave frequently in my car for my business. Sometimes the people working on the cars have been nice and move the cars so I can get out but last year one of the guys yelled at me for trying to back out of my own garage ( I am a young professional woman). At times, I have been late for appointments due to having to wait for these cars to be moved. Now I hesitate to even bring my trash out to the alley when these people are back there. Just looking for advice on what I can do or who to call. I hate to be “that” neighbor but I am done playing nice. However, I am afraid that if I call the cops, these people will retaliate against me.

  • Not a bad idea

  • It absolutely stinks to know law-abiding citizens with their rights being trampled upon feel they must "bite their tongues" to preserve their personal safety. And I get how you feel. Shame it ever got to where it is.
Truly hope you find a way to deter the activity. Maybe the IL Dept of Revenue might be responsive. Your aggregate observations could constitute "interest" for a bigger agency (DEA or ICE).

if you are a regular reader of every block, you have probably seen these tips, but they bear repeating. 1. put his litterbox outside along with something else he sleeps on or smells like you. 2. make photo posters and put them in neighbors' doors asking them to check their garages or other places he could be closed in. post on poles around your neighborhood; 3. call the closest vets and let them know he is missing and see if they have any reports; chips sometimes malfunction. 4. monitor animal control and visit in person; 5. list on craigslist lost and found, lost cats Illinois, etc. 5. go out at dusk with a high powered flashlight and call and look for the reflection of the cats eye (he has probably not gone too far); call near closed garage doors and listen for a response. 6.. get up in the middle of the night, (2-3) when it is very quiet and open your front and back doors and call him. 7. if cat freaks out being outside, borrow or rent a trap from one of the shelters and bait it with his favorite food, cover with blanked and leave on your property but away from house. 8. update us here with what works or doesn't so we can help other people.

Thanks, Loganparkcat. His cat tree is under our window for him to get back in and I was hoping that he might just show up last night as he's escaped for a few hours before and came home by himself. No luck, so I'm working on posters & flyers this am. My older cat was a fugitive when he was younger too, so I've been through this a few times before, but he didn't get so freaked out. I may give the trap a try. I'll make sure to update as soon as I find him.

What terrifies me are not things that you can use common sense to protect yourself by, but what you cannot. Middle of the night break ins through AC units assaulting kids in Lincoln park. Assaults in Lakeview at 8:30 pm on a busy Saturday evening, getting robbed in Lakeview at gunpoint between 2 days cares at 2:30 pm in the afternoon. Its by far way worse than normal city life. Horrific.

You should also consider a % tip for the walker in Wag, as walkers only get $12 of that $20 for the walk. I'm not advertising for Wag, but I just wanted to let you know the rate since you asked. It might be cheaper to find someone independent to walk your pup! If you do choose to try Wag, e-mail me and I'll give you a promo code to try the first walk for free.

  • They should recognize their dog as a St Francis Terrier mix as I did mine for vet registration, city registration, etc. and if people ask. I can't help with apts but it is getting better with breeds...Allstate and StateFarm used to be the only 2 ins. companies that would insure home owners, now plenty...(Besides, there is no such breed as a 'pit bull', who in WW1 was the hero dog and the 'nanny' dog in the '30's)

Welles Park Dog Park?

Thinking Welles Park needs a dog park or signs can't let your dog off leash and someone to ticket. Every morning on baseball diamonds and today we have a party of 5 dogs off leash with owners chatting. Was hoping to cut through park but will go around.

  • I couldn't agree more Cubs. My dog is always on a leash and I deal with this at Winnemac park regularly. Dogs off leash approach my dog as I'm walking him and if they run up to us, he feels threatened. (His eyesight is not great anymore). I would much prefer there were a fence around the unofficial dog park that's formed there so we all can enjoy the park.

  • The police don't always coordinate with the Park District management. This problem has to be addressed with the park supervisor. If you don't know who that is, go to the Chicago Park District website and look it up or click on CONTACT US on the home page and leave your complaint there.

Roofer recommendation?

I need part of my roof replaced. Anybody had a good exeprience to recommend a roofer or had a poor experience to avoid a contractor?
Live in Avondale.

I had Nyberg do both my house and garage roofs. I was satisfied with them and they were very responsive. A few years later they did the siding on the back of my house. Again, very good job. They're on the NW side of Chicago. Contact info:

Vine maintenance

Hi neighbors, we have a vine-covered building that we're trying to maintain. We don't want to completely get rid of the vines, but we would like them to stay healthy. Can anyone recommend a service that would help with this? It's a 3 story building and the vines go to the top. At the very least I'd like them to be trimmed away from the windows (they are murder on the screens!) but I'm thinking we'll need professional help.

  • Vines are like ladders for ants to crawl in your unit

  • If you have a brick building, vines are the worst thing you could do. Vines eat away at the mortar and tuckpointing. Can completely ruin the masonry over time. Be prepared for the expense of re-tuckpointing if you continue to allow vines to grow on your building.

Missing Cat: White with black spots, male

Hello. My cat went missing from Pulaski and Milwaukee area. He’s 7 months, medium fur. He has a big black spot on his nose. His name is Amileo and he’s very friendly. If you see him or find him, please contact me.

  • Thank you for letting us know he was found, Abby H. Besides liking to hear the good news, it helps us to know to stop keeping an eye out for him.

    Bet you're glad he's back! :-)

  • Good neighbor! I have lived on Troy St. since 1990 and love it!

I agree. Good news is always welcome.

He is at it again. Please keep an eye out and call the police.

  • Thanks Scott. I saw this guy Monday morning at 5:30am. Was walking my dogs and he was on his bike on Waveland and Springfield, headed east. I didn't notice the backpack but definitely same outfit, hat, and bike. Will keep my eyes open.

  • They removed photos...people, we are on our own!

Shots on Grace between Albany and Troy at 11:54 PM on 06May2018

Whats it going to take for the neighborhood to take a stand and say enough is enough? These little gang bangers live in the 3600 and 3700 block of Troy and also on the 3800 block of Albany. The ones that live on these blocks are now trading shots on Grace between Albany and Troy with the idiots that claim Montrose and Whipple.

Whats it going to take for you to get involved?

  • wait, i'm sorry......not every post.

I noticed you haven't touched any of the two dozen ATF agent shooting posts.

It doesn't appear you care at all when a law enforcement officer gets shot by a recidivistic gang banger scumbag.....your silence on those posts is deafening.
