On going unauthorized block party.

For the last two nights we’ve had our entire block shut down. These parties are lasting until 4:30am.
A couple of my neighbors and I called the police and even asked for the commander on watch. The first police to arrive did make them turn down the music. At around 3am squad car 9357 did turn their lights on in hopes to disburse the crowd but to avail. The party continued for another hour. We had young people well under age drinking and smoking. Our walk ways became public restroom and not to mention the garage they left behind.
Word in the street is that this is to become a every weekend event.

    what block?

  • Maybe you should contact the news media. Inform them of the lack of response by CPD and the underaged drinking.
Maybe this will get the “party” shut down.

  • We have the same issue and also agree on getting the media involved. Last night the police did manage to shut it down.

NYPD's assistant inspector general chosen as Chicago's police watchdog
An assistant inspector general riding herd over the New York Police Department has been chosen to serve as Chicago's deputy inspector general for public safety. Joseph Lipari replaces Laura Kunard, who resigned from the $137,052-a-year job in January after just six months on the job.

Peoples gas parking on warren (Just West of Western Ave)

Does anyone know what work is peoples gas doing on Warren blvd. There are no parking signs until July 23rd from 7 to 5pm which is fine but I don't notice anyone working there since this has been posted. Have they forgotten to take off signs or seriously work is scheduled? Would like to get back the convenience of street parking as someone living in neighbourhood.

THANKS 2 Rat Patrol!

It has taken quite a few years to get rats under control. Josie Cruze has helped us for about 5 years and now we have very few rats!

it is an effort involving: 1. Baiting, 2. Getting Garbage cans. #. Replacing damaged cans. 4. having Safer clean alleys, streets, parkways, vacant lots. 5. Getting weed spray.6. getting forestry to pick up branches. 7. getting flydup0ed tires, construction debris, trees, etc removed.

We now are at the point where we need CPd to issue citations for can theft, can rummaging, littering, using COMMUNITY CONCERNS and CITY SERVICES directive to continually have Beat and Patrol cars order the city service we need as well as gang/drug issues.

Everyone said this clean up could never be done. WELL...it is done!

Yikes! Tear downs always scatter the rat population as they look for a new home.

This year I may only have to walk 3 times instead of 8 times. IF we can keep the stuff off the ground and alleys clean.

We were a REAL MESS with 550 active holes on half a block, once upon a time.

Post the steps you did. What happened. It is always good to SHARE steps that work.

Poor HD reception?

Found a 150 mile HD TV antenna. It works really well. Most of pixles reduced and channels are more clear.

On my block lots tell me they have problems with this. Here is the solution!

In some neighborhoods calling 311 will not get you the city service you are looking for. In some seeclickfix.com does not work either.

The summary page for seeclickfix has NO orders for my ward. That is impossible.

The chicagoworksforyou ap has a 30-40%error rate in the google gis system so that is a bust also.

Software in Chicago is full of what are called glitches. They translate into massive services not being done. If 30-40% of the service orders go in on the ap recommended on the city website it is one of the reasons you get no service. it is also part of the reason we are bankrupt. Why?" Lets send high paid union men to non existing addresses.

An error rate like that would mean we could SAVE 30-40% just by dumping the gis or getting one that actually is accurate to the 99 percentile.

    EGADS...common sense..SAVE taxpayers $$. What a novel concept!

Does anybody remember ECON101 in High School?

There was a guns/butter price chart. Economic said that the more guns produced the less butter would result. Guns means military. Butter means consumer items.

Since no one is using classic economics jargon; does this mean that Trump asking for other countries to spend MORE on military is an attempt to start an ARMS RACE?

This is all crouched in other countries NOT paying their fair share. But there is no pie between nations that mandates they pay into the pie..I presume the 2% percentage based on gdp means everyone should build a military for their own country. No where is it written one country should fund all.

This one country invading other countries is not part of the equation for NATO. the US is not picking up somebody elses' share of payment. We CHARGE countries when we invade them so the $$ come back to us in many ways.

There is no transparency in $$ in and $$ out for the cost of war, invasions, etc.

This is all very unclear when one THINKS closely about what we consume in the news.

If the ultimate goal is to reduce war, reduce military spending, create PEACE....ramping up all countries in an ARMS RACE will continue to drain $$ off of what Residents in countries need. Example: Infrastructure like roads. Schools. Our own law enforcement, a healthy consumer society.

Any economists out there who can chime in? THANKS

If we take it even further and say military in Chicago is Police; Military for State is State Police; Military for County is Cook County Sheriff...,does that mean Chicago spends too much on military.

Evidence would say that 2/3rds of the city is a blighted slum and that is possible.
My block is not so bad but has 2 vacant lots and 3 abandoned buildings. However, neighboring streets have as many as HALF vacant lots. Some are 705 vacant lots and vacant housing.

What is your opinion of the Expressway shut down?

It was nice to see the Mayor, Superintendent, Marchers in solidarity.

  • @gpblight

Yes, totally agree! That's why it's an absolute joke that Rahm marched. But most people are too ignorant to understand why this was ludicrous. There are things that Rahm can do and it starts with CPS and after-school programming.

@leanord3000, I am not suggesting in any sense whatsoever that the government is an answer to all of our issues. I am for much smaller government. But what our local government can most certainly do is improve school quality in these areas.

Regarding jobs, that's great that you had the ability to move whenever you got a job but I think you are failing to understand that black youth needs jobs in their community to learn skills first, such as working in a local ice cream shop, fast food restaurant, grocery store, bussing tables, whatever. These jobs are non-existent because these communities are devoid of businesses.

And about guns, why is it that I know many people with guns who have them legally, yet they haven't committed any crime using a gun? Don't blame the gun. It's an inanimate object. A kid in NJ was recently hacked to death with a machete. It's not the weapon because anything can be a weapon, even a baseball bat or a golf club so let's get real here.

There is something profoundly wrong in these black neighborhoods and what they have in common is poverty, dependence on the government dole, no jobs, no city services, horrible schools, gangs and drugs. They are living in a horrific reality and stuck where they are. You think they wouldn't move if they could? It's not so simple.

Take a job any job. It's what I did. People around the world and here in America travel miles to find work and to go to work. Why should it be different for the teenagers of Chicagos South and west sides. Poverty isn't exclusive to Chicago. I hear excuse after excuse. Complaining about this and waiting for hand outs. Not right. Get up and do it and you will see change.

Considering yard sale but worth it?

Hi,

Anyone interested in buying mysteries from Christie, Stout, Baxt? Mostly paperback but a few hardback?
Also have other books.

Anyone interested in buying women' s dress suits from 1990's in great condition mostly labelled Kasper ASL true sizes 8 & 10. Also have a few formal pieces. Costume jewelry as well.

Anyone interested in mystery books on tape or cd from Christie and Stout?

Reside on second floor and to carry all down and then back up - understand why I say worth it?
Area of Chicago Ave and Western Ave.
Your input appreciated.

Lost Dog

My dog went missing 7/2/2018 between 6:00pm and 8:00pm Central, in the North Lawndale area (Polk St. and Sacramento Ave.)

His name is Rex. He is friendly in nature and gets excited when he sees new people. His primary color is Brown, and he has a white chest and paws. His breed is Pit Bull. Attached I have a photo of him with my contact information.

Please let me know if you see a dog that matches his description.

  • He's been found! Thank you everyone that took time out of their day to look at the flyer and help bring him home.
