In addition to a year-end Annual Recital, LBP students have the opportunity to perform in two full-length, professional-style ballet performances each year, including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and an annual spring ballet, such as Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, or Coppèlia. Le Ballet Petit is also home to the Living By Performing Dance Company, which performs competitively around the region and nationally.

Gutter Replacement

Our house has had some gutter issues and we've finally determined that we need to just replace them. Happily, our insurance company agreed. I've tried a few roofing and gutter places, but once they find out the roof is fine and we just need gutters.....poof, they disappear.
Anyone with a recommendation for a gutter replacement company? Preferably someone who can take a look at where we've been having some overflow issues and make some changes to the way our downspout are set up.

  • thanks for the follow-up...we see a lot of these type of posts but finding out what the upshot was is very useful.

Work on Grace between Mozart and Sacramento

Anyone have any idea what they are doing and how much longer it will go on? It's been a nightmare of early morning construction for weeks now.

  • Dreamer North Center

Sometimes I think they really have no idea what they're doing. Some of those pipes they're replacing are likely 100 years old and so are the manuals on them. Just imagine the trial and error. It just needs to end already.

  • This project started in 2011 in Chicago. I think it is supposed to wrap up in 2021. They are replacing the entire system in the city. I'm still hearing the water sucking machine from blocks away and they aren't done
yet on my block, they have to replace the parkway grass next.

Shooting 3500 block of Belmont

Does anyone have info about what happened Sunday around 8:45pm on the corner of Belmont and St Louis? Lots of sirens and then large police presence for hours. Twitter Scanner account said 19yo suffered four gunshot wounds. No word on condition of the victim and I can’t find anything else about it.

  • I don't know but it happened literally outside of my apartment and I slept through all of it.

  • Oh wow! The police were there for several hours which is what made me look into what was going on.

Anyone I can call to find out what happened? We moved to Chicago last summer and this was the first major incident pretty close to home.

Missing Cat

Our cat ran away today near Avers and George. If you see him, let me know!

  • I'm curious, How did you find him? Is there anything you did specifically that worked? I work for a cat shelter and would love any feed back you could lend.

  • Ultimately he was just hiding in the back stairwell of our building (we're on the top floor of a 3 flat), so he wasn't outside. We came home Saturday night and he was just sitting on the stairs, terrified.

We tried putting out food, and dirty cat litter, and calling for him. I'm going to start making sure I use a treat canister that has a specific sound going forward so there's some "sound of food" that gets him to come running.

Lost Cat

My cat, Quincy, has been missing for about 2 days. We last saw him near Barry heading south on Kedzie. Any info is appreciated!

  • So glad to hear Quincy is home! And safe and sound!
Those rascals! Always looking for an adventure, and sometimes they find one....!
They scare the bejeezus out of us when they're missing, but it's too hard to scold them when they're found, because you're just so darned relieved to have them back.
    Glad he's home.

Not a surprise to many but I think it's a surprise to the employees, unfortunately.

The last time I shopped there (a couple of months ago) I asked the cashier if they were closing and she said no.

I wish all of the employees the best!

Yes. The part of the building that is under it is barrel truss construction. Unfortunately the sides of that part of the buildimg are pulling away from the roof. It would cost as much as building a new building to repair it. So that is why the new building in the parking lot. The tent over the building is to protect the roof of the old building from any snow load which could collapse it. So it is there to prevent snow build up until the new building is done and the old can be taken down. We tried to save the old building but it couldn't be done.

Movers for a fridge and range

I'm wondering if anybody has a recommendation for a moving company or crew that would be able to move my fridge and range up a short staircase back into my kitchen. I just had my floors redone and the floor crew moved these appliances out of the way, but not back into place.

  • We've used Dolly and Taskrabbit in the past - Dolly for moving. Needed something big moved and wanted insurance on it and found Dolly at the time. Taskrabbit does not if I recall. At the time with Dolly I remember paying for a half hour minimum and they worked about 15 minutes, it was fine and well worth it. Asked if there was anything else they could do too.

After putting up with this for 2 years, I am done. The neighbor across the alley from me blocks the alley 1-2 days per week with what appears to be a car repair business. Multiple cars get parked in the alley behind my garage and make it a pain for me to leave my house. Incidentally, I work from home but have to leave frequently in my car for my business. Sometimes the people working on the cars have been nice and move the cars so I can get out but last year one of the guys yelled at me for trying to back out of my own garage ( I am a young professional woman). At times, I have been late for appointments due to having to wait for these cars to be moved. Now I hesitate to even bring my trash out to the alley when these people are back there. Just looking for advice on what I can do or who to call. I hate to be “that” neighbor but I am done playing nice. However, I am afraid that if I call the cops, these people will retaliate against me.

Lets not forget the public is crying for help from these said officers YET they are the same citizens who want to record and post half the story of something portraying the police as bad guys, then officers start getting fired or calls for termination and jail time, while the family is threatened by people who ride the bandwagon train, and you want them to do something PLEASE.... hate to say it but the public created this mess handcuffing the police. I don't blame them for not doing anything except staying alive, not getting in a gun battle and maintaining a check to take care of their families.

When i was younger when i heard the police were on their way we got the heck out of there cause we knew what the a pillar of the car felt like when you had your head bounced off it. Now a days they stick around and laugh at them knowing they cant be touched

Night life? Depends what you're used to & enjoy, I guess. I like Fuller's basically right on that corner as a solid dive bar with local bands on the weekends. Lizard's a couple blocks down Irving will also have bands sometimes, and Serbian Village has a jazz jam on Monday nights that I've been intending to check out. Then you've also got Christina's at Kedzie & Grace with $3 pints of Guinness and very-late-night karaoke on the weekends.

    Best of luck!

Looking for an architect to draw garage plans.

Hello! I’m having a hard time finding an architect to draw up plans for a detached garage I want to build on my property in Avondale. Does anyone have any reccomndations of architects I could reach out to? I’m looking for someone with a solid understanding of how accessory structures like garages are permitted and governed by the city.
Thank you!

  • Metro, I am interested in your comment for another reason.

    what is freelancer?

if there are graphic designers there, I am wondering if this freelancer you are talking about could be a talent pool I could hire someone for a full time position from?

beezil, I highly recommend browsing freelancer.com, as well as, dribbble.com and envato.com. If you are looking for a graphic designer, these are the best souces for finding talent. Be sure to read up on the protocol and do's and don'ts.

Neighbors with Roosters

Hate to be “that neighbor” who complains, but I’m in between two neighbors that have roosters and waking up at 6am to rooster noises is not fun.

Aren’t roosters illegal? Anyone have this issue?

I’m not sure what / if I can do anything because asking them to keep their roosters from cock-a-doodle-dooing seems worthless. Like you can train a dog to stop barking but you can’t keep a rooster from doing that.

  • Nelly HP lifer, activist, business owner

Honestly, if it bothers you very much, I’d move to a different location. We have chickens walking around and we have a 10+ year in-house rooster down the street and we defend the rooster because it is our neighbor’s pet. We try to tell new neighbors about the animals ahead of time in my area. Personally, kids from the burbs stop to take pictures of the animals all the time! I think its great.

  • Nelly - how do you tell people ahead of time about roosters? Are there signs up in the neighborhood or something that gives new renters a heads up? I think landlords trying to rent out units would withhold that info realistically.

And telling human beings to “move to another location” because of roosters is a ridiculous comment. Sorry.

Table/chair rental

I'm hosting a small party for my daughters first birthday and I'm trying to source some tables and chairs. I don't that many and so I'm having trouble finding a place with no minimum for delivery or at least some place closer by.

Shots fired @Whipple and School

I heard 5 pops outside my window. I'm not familiar with what a gun sounds like but I looked out the window 10 minutes later and saw 2 police vehicles parked outside. I'm not sure who phoned it in but it is scary. Have lived here since October.

Did you call it in? Everyone has a different vantage point and the more people that call , the better information the police have.

  • If it helps, one way to tell is that gunshots have a very crisp popping sound to them, and are usually irregular. Fireworks have an echo-y sound to them, and tend to reverberate somewhat, and have a very regular cadence to them.
    What time did this happen?
