Archer Heights residents step up fight against sex workers By Tim Hadac Managing Editor Southwest Chicago Post Apparently fed up with what they see as the inability-or perhaps unwillingness-of the criminal justice system to rid their neighborhood of street-walking sex workers, a handful of Archer Heights residents are taking matters into their own hands.

Flat tire

I had a slow leak on one tire and after the second day I decided to take care of it. Can someone give me some idea what something like this should/could cost? Thanks

  • Golden Stallion was good and cheap. They patched my tires a number of times for $10-15. Last time I went, there were two new dudes who jacked me for $28. I won't go back.

  • Bob Stanek Lives across from Peck School, works at Argonne

I go to Premier Tire Shop #2 on Archer and Kostner. They remove the tire from the wheel, patch it from the inside and charge you $10.

What's more of a concern Archer Heights, a few homeless people or a murder of a mother of three?

To the Archer Heights civies/politicos and their voting block:

"It stuns me that the priorities of some Archer Heights residents --including a few AHCA 'town fathers'-- is SO skewed!
In getting all up-in-arms over a small group of homeless men trying to survive on the mean streets around Archer Ave. and Kedvale (citing that some resident's kids going to school shouldn't be subjected to the sight of these homeless people).

Meanwhile, a confessed murderer--of a mother of three children (who was assaulted, murdered and stuffed in a bag left to rot in the local murderer's uncle's garage for two months!). That he has lived nearby right off Archer and Keeler all this time your children are/were walking to school.
(Now, I'm sure you wouldn't want your kids subjected to the likes of this demon
passing your kids on the street?!)

And, there's a lot more similar horrendous crime and criminals (shootings, stabbings, prostitution, armed robberies, child abuse and abduction, etc.) going on in & around Archer Heights....

Far worse to deal with than a few homeless men struggling to get by (even "the one in the wheelchair" as some complaining resident so nastily put it).

So, shame, shame on you folks! Your upcoming Tues day public library CAPS meeting should be about all this terrible violent crime happening in & around Archer Heights. Not picking on a few down-on-their-luck men....

Wanna do something pro-active (instead of complaining at meetings)-- help the homeless (teach your children a Civics lesson; & a moral lesson in compassion)....!"

Need a plumber

I'm looking for a plumber with reasonable rates to replace a water heater.

  • srapach GR civic member

May I suggest you get a contact from the local hardware store. I didn't keep the plumer's name, but he charged me $65 to replace an outdoor faucet. One I had asked while he was working on a neighbor's home quoted me $125.

  • Thank You. I went to the ACE Hardware store on Archer and was told they have names of reliable plumbers.

More speed bumps

I knew they would do 52nd after 53rd. I love suffering because of people who don't even live here. I've had it with stop signs and speed bumps. Fix the real problem - the intersection at Archer & Harlem.

Brendan- It will definitely raise the property value of the homes. There are several gated communities in the city. They can do a 4 entry/exit point, not just one and use a FOB/pin code for guests so it doesn’t have to be manned. If we wait to get into the property by a gate or the speed bump/stop sign policy ... I bet the gate is quicker. Less people bc it’s only the ones that live here. I’m from the suburbs, but bc of my job I have to live in the City of Chicago. I chose this area bc it resembles the suburbs, not any more.

The new speed bumps on 52nd street are just annoying. I totally understand the ones on 53rd and 54th, because of the run off from Harlem Ave, but on 52nd they’re ridiculous! They’re just unconvincing actual residents

Speed bumps

It would be great to get speed bumps on 59th street between Austin and Narragansett! Cars are always racing through to beat the train in either end and almost hit you as they rush by! The 2 new stop signs don't help! Cars always blow through them!
