Locksmith needed

Anyone have a locksmith to recommend? A spring broke, causing the pin to drop, making the deadbolt useless. Luckily I have 2 deadbolts on that door, so I can secure my home, but this needs to be fixed. Thanks!

  • NatureNut SE PortageParker since1992

Tom Surplus comes right away and has very low prices. 773-427-8224

  • If you are at all handy take off the broken lock and take it to a hardware store / Lowes / Home depot and ask for a replacement. If it is a standard lockset it will fit into the old hole. Can't get cheaper than that.

Robbed on Belmont and Leclaire

I was mugged approximately 4am on friday january 26. I was at the belmont bus stop heading east. He asked me for a dollar and then punched me in the face. It was a hispanic male, 5.5-5.9, pale complexion, black hoodie and pants. He stole my green canvas gap messenger bag. It only had medela breast pump pieces but if anyone sees the bag please reach out.he ran south on Leclaire. When he punched me he broke or knocked my glasses off.

Yes, Chicago has a gang issue that needs to be addressed but not all gangs are comprised only by Hispanics. https://www.nationalgangcenter.gov/Survey-Analysis/Demographics..

Yes, this incident did not exactly happen in my beat but it would have if they crossed the street. I don’t think that these criminals are looking out for district or beat boundaries so I’m going to count this as my beat.

I am not disputing people’s concerns, I just want people to speak out with knowledge and the facts. This country needs to invest in ALL our youth. Education and Employment is the key. It cost less to educate and employ a young adult than to pay for their encarceration. It is actually an investment with returns because once they have an education and a job they contribute to the economy and pay taxes.

This is the last you will hear from me on this topic. Stay safe. If you see something, say something and always strive for the truth.

  • Driving on the 5000 block of Belmont today I noticed lots of L***N Gang Graffiti.
Do they have to destroy property they live in? Help these people remove themselves.

Dear Neighbor(s) of the 16th District of Chicago,

Leaders of the Eddy/Addison Block Club, West Portage Park Neighbors Association and the Portage Park Neighborhood Watch FB Group have organized this Public Safety survey.

The purpose of this survey is to gather data from the Northwest Side Community. Data to show both our local and "downtown" elected officials that WE are watching what is happening to our community. For too long, it seemed that our that our concerns were being brushed aside. That is a response that can no longer be tolerated. To tackle these challenges we need to come TOGETHER as a community, as ONE group, ONE movement, to demand that our concerns be addressed. To help accomplish this, we invite ALL the elected stakeholders in the 16th District to take part in this discussion. We hope they will actively participate and take heed of the concerns of our various communities.

We are also asking you, members of this community, to commit to becoming involved in this movement. A plan moving forward will be based on the information collected here. Please be honest in your selections.

We know that together we can successfully regain our police that have been reassigned to other areas and aid our district in reducing crime in Chicago's largest, geographical, police district, district 16.

You might be wondering how this is different than the petition that began to circulate last night. The petition DEMANDS for our officers back. This survey however shows why we NEED them to be back.

Please feel free to forward this survey link to anyone who resides, owns a business or works anywhere in the 16th district. Results from this survey will be posted for the community to see after the survey link has closed.

This survey link will be up until 6pm, Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Just a bump! We're close to 600 responses and there is word that a meeting between the aldermen in 16 and CPD coming in the next week. While no Aldermen have anything to do with the survey they have asked to be able to present the numbers at that upcoming meeting. Please take a few minutes to fill it out! A bonus of the survey is that at the end we will have a comprehensive list of all the great community organizations in working order here on the Northwest Side. All results will be public (sans names and emails) at the conclusion of the survey period.

Shooting ??

Does anyone know anything about several shots fired around the 1900 block of Tripp around 4:30 pm on Thursday night? I always call the police whenever I hear anything but yesterday I was not sure, however within a minute or two of hearing the sounds there were police cars with lights no sirens in my alley. Wondering what the scoop was.....

Albany Park had pretty much the same stats as KelPark and petty crimes was at a minimum until the neighborhood started changing.. Most crimes were domestic violence and a few car break-ins and theft..

I am actually not here to compare neighborhoods but I appreciate both of your responses from (A) and Jenny response, although it was not the answer to my question I originally posted.

She does have outings with the community. We had the Shakespeare at the park the last two summers and they just had a neighborhood carnival at the Aldi on Wrightwood and Pulaski. I stay up to date by Facebook and they also have a Kelvyn park group on the Nextdoor site. The Hermosa Association has done a lot of great things to make the Kelvyn Park and Hermosa areas better. The neighborhood has improved over the last 10 years but it does take time.

One look at why and how zoning has become a focus of property owners.

If this is not behind a pay wall, here's a think piece about how property owner opinions on their rights to have a say in community development evolved. While it doesn't set out to change anybody's opinion, having it in mind helps me understand why I hold certain value judgments. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/03/upshot/zoning-housing-property-rights-nimby-us.html?comments#permid=25419406

How 'Not in My Backyard' Became 'Not in My Neighborhood'
In Seattle, the neighbors don't want apartments for formerly homeless seniors nearby. In Los Angeles, they don't want more high-rises. In San Jose, Calif., they don't want tiny homes. In Phoenix, they don't want design that's not midcentury modern.
