Gunshots at Tripp and Wabansia

Anybody hear these last night? Sounded like two rounds of approximately 10 shots a piece that occurred around midnight. I could hear them quite clearly from Keeler Ave. Does anyone have any information on it?

  • Yeah, they were shooting in the alley on Tripp Ave..

    One shooter and one look-out!!

  • Thanks Dude. Shooting in the air or in someone’s direction?

Move to Hermosa?

Hi!

We are thinking of moving to the area (near Armitage and Cicero). Would you recommend the neighborhood? Look elsewhere? Just trying to see what the residents think about the safety and crime around there. Thanks!

  • Lee

Alright, thanks everyone. It seemed like a family-friendly neighborhood with kids playing outside. I've been in Logan Square near Humbolt Park and the neighborhoods seems similar.

I've found the area where you are looking to be more family oriented and quiet then my part of hermosa.

There is an active neighborhood association and group on facebook as well. They have a closed group "forum" for neighbors to communicate.

There is a misconception that MORE cops means something good. That is not true. Efficiency is what we need. There is also a lack of perspective. The city has lost more than 35% of its' population. That means we should have a commensurate drop in 35% of police. Every other City department has been downsized, blended into other departments or complete eliminated.

Police is the only department where staff numbers have been maintained despite a serious drop in residents. We were 2.8 mil. are we now 1.7 mil? Anybody know how many head we lost?

I am not going to feel sorry for Police. I feel sorry for those who live in high crime neighborhoods who can be shot, killed, or terrorized by dealers who take over their blocks.

This is not to denigrate the wonderful on the force. They are worth their weight in gold. However, we have a high % of those who don't do much and collect a high salary for not doing much.

Reports by the Justice Department Civil Rights Department, Mayor Task Force, Illinois States Attorney and Cook County Prosecutor have all written reports on the gross inefficiencies.

Nobody checks the numbers and says eeps this is a problem. It is a problem if in one Beat 450 red lights were fixed and police called in 5. Why? Ordering red stop lights out is a serious emergency and can result in a car crash. If 14,450 911 calls are made and 68 police responses are made; there is something wrong.

    We need EFFICIENCY not quantity.

Chopin Park is literally next to St. Ladislaus Parish, and formerly St. Ladislaus Elementary School until it closed in 2014- due to low enrollment, which isn't a surprise. Who will send their child to a school in an area that has clearly been neglected. And not to digress, but Notre Dame High School for Girls, which was also in the 30th Ward closed because of Ald. Reboyras' policies as well. Higher taxation and higher crime don't translate into higher enrollment into these neighborhood schools. Watch St. Patrick High School to follow the same fate if Ariel Reboyras gets re-elected to four more years in 2019. ‪

  • I'm not a Reboyras fan but he had nothing to do with Notre Dame for Girls closing. It just wasn't a good school and parents are not going to waste their money sending their children there.

The area isn't becoming that enticing to raising a family, let alone to send their kids to schools in the area.

Your post is almost two years old and shows today 2018 Ald. Reboyras is an out of touch, in over his head, rubberstamp Alderman. He supports Rahm Emanuel almost 100% of the time. The guy is soft on crime and he's the Chairman of Public Safety! If he can't take care of his own "home" neighborhood, he definitely can't take care of the whole city.

Always always always around 3-4am I hear gunshots ring out in the near distance. Almost on a nightly basis. Is this common in the neighborhood? Will it get worse as the summer months start to come? I was eating lunch last Saturday and heard the shots ring out down the block from me, very close.

Police are pretty negligent in this district yeah? I keep reading how bad they are and I haven’t seen any crime reports for shootings around my area. Just curious, stuck in a year lease so I just want to make the best of it.

Thanks!

  • Michael McDonough Resident of BelCragin

And if police go under cover or act like they are residents of a neighborhood that is terrorized by gang activities and these officers make arrests you have lawyers who will represent the suspects and go before a judge and proclaim that this is a form of entrapment the judge then buys into it and the bangers that were arrested are right back out on the street and this is justice.

Last week my neighbors tires were slashed, there's noise of shootings on the weekends and yesterday some idiot set fire to some trash cans in our alley. One of the garbage cans caught fire very quick and spread to our garage. Luckily our neighor caught it and put it out before the fire department arrived. We do have damage to the corner of our garage but it could have been so much worse, since our car was parked in the garage. My husband and I are the new Block Captains and I will be speaking with our Alderman about this. I just hope people are aware of the changes going on and they are calling 911 and reporting things they see. We have to stand together as a community or it will get worse.

In certain parts of Africa, the average walking distance to a water source is just shy of four miles. That's why Tim Hoekstra leads Austin residents in World Vision's Global 6k for clean water every year; he wants clean water to be more accessible to a greater number of African families.
