Anyone know what happened here and can share?

  • ward greenleaf Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper, Cannonball Run...

Had a foid, not a ccl

  • What's to know?

Probably got stopped by the police for public intoxication (i.e., acting the fool), and they found that he had a concealed weapon. That was enough to write him up.

Society can't tolerate drunks carrying guns.

FOID or CCL holder should know better. IF he had one, I hope he doesn't have it anymore.

Gutter Replacement

Our house has had some gutter issues and we've finally determined that we need to just replace them. Happily, our insurance company agreed. I've tried a few roofing and gutter places, but once they find out the roof is fine and we just need gutters.....poof, they disappear.
Anyone with a recommendation for a gutter replacement company? Preferably someone who can take a look at where we've been having some overflow issues and make some changes to the way our downspout are set up.

  • thanks for the follow-up...we see a lot of these type of posts but finding out what the upshot was is very useful.

A week ago today I was walking to the local grocery store near Belmont and Knox. As I approached the corner I noticed a news man taking video behind the senior center. My initial thought was that perhaps he was doing a story about the senior home. But when I returned from the store I noticed many more news reporters had joined the scene. At this point I questioned the first reporter I encountered. He mentioned that a dead man was found in the alley shot to death. Which that alone turned out be false to some extent. As I continued down the block I encountered another reporter at the other end of the alley off of Barry Ave. At this point I was a little more surprised because we was getting a lot closer to my residence. I said to him, "I hear it was fatal, any specifics as to what happened?" And he said that they found a man dead in the alley but no one knows what was the cause of death. He said he even walked the alley to see if he noticed a sign of the crime scene but could not pinpoint the spot where the body was found. There was no blood on the ground or anything, not even yellow tape. I mentioned that the prior reporter said it was a gun wound. And he said that no one really knows, that his report indicated that the man was beat to death and found a couple hours earlier lying in the alley.

The Tribune report:

https://www.google.com/amp/www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-man-found-dead-in-alley-040818-story,amp.html

That was it! I never heard an update. And this startles me to the core because my grandchildren and I live right down the street from this crime scene. For all I know we have a murderer on the lose in the neighborhood!

Does anyone know who to reach out to to find out more? I'm curious to know if they determined who the individual was? Cause of death? Was it a local resident? Was it gang related? Was it someone that may perhaps been murdered elsewhere and just dumped in the alley? So many questions are unanswered.

  • Yes, just as Bellhome says... go to your local police station or call them and tell them of your concern and questions. Each station has its own number.
You never mentioned there were any cops around just reporters. (?!) were the police there when you approached each reporter you confronted?

  • Clef in Jeff Park, no now that you mention it I didn't see any officers around. Then again, the police were alerted to the body sometime around 7:30am and when I walked by it was already around 10:15am. I don't know if that was enough time for them to conduct their investigation though.

Shooting 3500 block of Belmont

Does anyone have info about what happened Sunday around 8:45pm on the corner of Belmont and St Louis? Lots of sirens and then large police presence for hours. Twitter Scanner account said 19yo suffered four gunshot wounds. No word on condition of the victim and I can’t find anything else about it.

  • I don't know but it happened literally outside of my apartment and I slept through all of it.

  • Oh wow! The police were there for several hours which is what made me look into what was going on.

Anyone I can call to find out what happened? We moved to Chicago last summer and this was the first major incident pretty close to home.

Missing Cat

Our cat ran away today near Avers and George. If you see him, let me know!

  • I'm curious, How did you find him? Is there anything you did specifically that worked? I work for a cat shelter and would love any feed back you could lend.

  • Ultimately he was just hiding in the back stairwell of our building (we're on the top floor of a 3 flat), so he wasn't outside. We came home Saturday night and he was just sitting on the stairs, terrified.

We tried putting out food, and dirty cat litter, and calling for him. I'm going to start making sure I use a treat canister that has a specific sound going forward so there's some "sound of food" that gets him to come running.

It would cost as much as building a new building to repair it. So that is why the new building in the parking lot. The tent over the building is to protect the roof of the old building from any snow load which could collapse it. So it is there to prevent snow build up until the new building is done and the old can be taken down. We tried to save the old building but it couldn't be done.

What better way to celebrate the upcoming Friday the 13th in April than with a commemorative tattoo? Although it might seem contradictory to honor a holiday for the star-crossed and accursed, the tradition supposedly dates back to sailors - known for their "old school" body art - who tattooed the number "13" to ward off bad fortune.

Movers for a fridge and range

I'm wondering if anybody has a recommendation for a moving company or crew that would be able to move my fridge and range up a short staircase back into my kitchen. I just had my floors redone and the floor crew moved these appliances out of the way, but not back into place.

  • We've used Dolly and Taskrabbit in the past - Dolly for moving. Needed something big moved and wanted insurance on it and found Dolly at the time. Taskrabbit does not if I recall. At the time with Dolly I remember paying for a half hour minimum and they worked about 15 minutes, it was fine and well worth it. Asked if there was anything else they could do too.

  • If the recent posts don't prove to us all that Robin Hood Rohdenburg is on Arena's payroll (albeit under the table to maintain his government handouts) than you are just not paying attention.

Robin Hood, you have repeatedly asserted you are unemployable as you consistently exhibit on EB that you have marketable job skills. The ADA provides allowances to employers who hire those who are disabled. As I have stated before, I have worked with a blind man but Roibin Hood is "unemployable".

Hit and run on long 3800

Anyone seeing the accident on long 3800 block black car running on rim 730 this morning during rush police followed rim track to grace and Laramie Must have garage. Right around there-right front end damage

Long between Grace and Addison is nothing more than an express way between Central and Laramie. Most cars accelerate thru the "stop" signs with some passing cars while stopped. What is most surprising is that there isn't as many incidents as one would think given just how bad it is. It's just a matter of time until a small child gets nailed at one of these useless intersections. I'm not a round a bout person, but to see 9 out of 10 cars blow right thru these signs is shocking and something really needs to be done. Especially, given the proximity of Gray School = 2 blocks.

  • Can't agree with you more cars ignore all stop signs from Waveland to Irving.

FOUND PUG

Hi, found Oscar wandering around Leavitt and Barry. Anyone know who he belongs to? He has a tag and I called the number on it but have not heard back from anyone. Thanks for any help.

  • krw

Poor Pug. Either he's confused by the sitter and ran off, or the sitter is slacking. If I were the owner I would be freeking. Poor Oscar, but at least he's home.

  • Thanks for clearing that up......
