A somewhat unusual request...

Children's Library (Thomas Hughes) at the Harold Washington Library Center is looking for your old hula hoops (are there any other kind?) to help with decorations for the future summer learning challenge. It'll be fun, interesting and, well...challenging for our young up-and-coming reading enthusiasts. So if anyone in the neighborhood wants to part with a hula hoop or two, many thanks.

Niles Issues RFP For Metra Feasibility Study

Niles Issues RFP For Metra Feasibility Study
https://www.journal-topics.com/articles/niles-issues-rfp-for-metra-feasibility-study/

Niles is the village "Where people count" unless you are from Chicago and then you count for nothing. Niles has flagrantly, blatantly, routinely and habitually ignored all complaints about the traffic impact that Niles' urban sprawl north of Touhy between Caldwell and Lehigh causes to the Chicago neighborhood south of Touhy.

A rendering of a planned plaza anchored by the Niles Leaning Tower with shopping restaurants and an outdoor live music space to accommodate 4,000 people. A request for proposals was issued this week for a feasibility study to build a new Metra station along the Milwaukee North line near Touhy and Lehigh avenues in Niles.

Forward thinking and walkable to Target? Ha! I can see the millennials now strapping a 24 pack of bottled water, toilet tissue, and paper towels on their backs and hoofing it home. Take a good look at the majority of clientele at Target and Walmart down the street: People arrive in vehicles and purchase numerous household items that are too bulky and heavy to carry. This is what keeps these stores in business, it's not Walgreens or CVS.

@ joanie I see you've got this all figured out, but not really! Up until a few months ago, Walmart.com would charge the same price as their stores for items with free shipping for an order of $35 or more. I stock up on things like paper towels, toilet paper, laundry products etc. that are bulky and let them schlep it via FedEx or UPS. For distilled water, bottled drinking water, beer, booze, and soft drinks I let Peapod do the work and usually order once a month for a $6.95 fee. If you have a Target Red Debit Card you get free shipping over $25 and a 5% discount on everything. So take your business to HIP, Niles won't blink an eye!

Gunshots???

Heard a couple loud booms while grilling at about 8:15 pm ?Sat nite.

Anybody hear it or know what's going on???

Sounded like it came from near Harlem and Talcott.

  • Gunshots don't make booming sounds, they initially make a popping sound and then cracking noises which is the bullet breaking the sound barrier.

  • Thanks for not answering my question, dennis.

  • It was the sound of both the Hawks and the Bears simultaneously imploding.

Hit and run

My daughters Jeep was hit in front of a family members home. We know it was a silver Nissan . Neighbors are going through their tapes and hopefully we will get the plate #. If anyone has info on this please have the person come forward before it becomes a hit and run. It happened on Thorndale and Newark. The Nissan has damage to the bumper and headlight we have the debris from the Nissan. TIA

  • I hope you find them. My minivan was a hit and run also, like a sideswipe, but it was parked in my driveway. So figure that one out. We never caught who ever did it.
