Dear City Newbies, Please Pick Up Your Dog Poop!

I happened upon this scene and it was quite amazing. He really thought it was unnecessary to pick up after his dog.

He's 30ish, short blondish brown hair with a new small black puppy. He;s got a wild eyed stare that looks like he might have moved here from some podunk town in East Texas. I'd post a pic but that probably would be against the rules here plus I don't carry a phone with me. I'm amazed at the arrogance thinking it's OK to let dog poop sit on the sidewalk. This might work in his farm country but don't they teach any manners there? End of rant. Still kind of pissed. This happened on Shakespeare just west of Hoyne.

BTW: If there was a Patrol Dogs Club that poop and all others would get picked up by the next dog walker.

I meant they would have fined the guy who didn't pick up his dog's poop. Brandon Bear said that the poop guy was who called 911.

I happened upon the scene. I casually know the owner of the house because I walk by it twice a day. The guy with the dog was dialling 911 and I have no idea why. The home owner flagged me down. I picked up the poop because it took 2 seconds. I think most dog walkers around here pick up errant turds because I don't see many. I'm not going to waste police on this guy and ranting here was enough.

It was the dog walker's righteous attitude and lack of respect for his elders is what disturbed me the most. A bunch of years ago I played tour guide to some out of towners in the Spring right after the snow melted. I brought them to the Gold Cost by the Cardinal's house to walk that neighborhood. There was so much dog poop from tiny dogs you could not walk on the sidewalk or anywhere without stepping in some. Picking up dog poop is beneath the people who live in those expensive mansions so they didn't. I suspect this is why that guy laughed at me and perhaps why he was calling the police. This old man with an accent and I are beneath him on the social ladder -- or what he perceives that ladder to be. /end of rant #2

Ultra-contemporary Bucktown mansion with spacious patio lists for $3.675M
Though some might be turned off by its minimalist exterior and pillbox-like horizontal windows, this spacious Bucktown mansion is best enjoyed from the inside looking out. Designed by Chicago-based Osterhaus McCarthy Architects and completed in 2013, the contemporary six-bedroom, seven-bathroom home is full of natural light and blurs the line between indoors and out.

I was listening to the Chicago Police Department scanner and heard reports related to an aggravated vehicular hijacking at 2212 West Lyndale at 12:25PM on Friday, December 1, 2017.

The offenders were three black males, two armed with handguns, who pulled up to the hijacked vehicle in a Silver 2014 Chevy Equinox. The Equinox used in this carjacking was reported to have been also previously carjacked in Broadview, Illinois by two black males who were reported to be armed and dangerous.

From the City of Chicago crime map, I was able to find reports of two carjackings in this part of Bucktown over the last 12 months:

AGGRAVATED VEHICULAR HIJACKING

I have attached a map of all vehicular hijackings in and near Bucktown in the last 12 months. To get more details about these incidents, and other crimes in the area, you can search the City of Chicago crime map at:

Broadcastify only offers the general CPD stream, which scans traffic in the 13 zones and often does not capture important dispatches in specific zones. Broadcastify will also often play recordings from earlier dispatches even while indicating that the scanner is live and current.

Bucktown is in District 14 which is in Zone 3. If you listen to the Zone 3 stream on crimeisdown.com, you will hear all the dispatches and police officer replies as they are occurring.

I will often have the scanner playing in the background as I work and I am now used to listening to three or four zones simultaneously. Even though dispatches are almost constant and there is overlap in dispatches from the zones, it is possible to monitor large areas of the city in this way.

CPD and the City of Chicago only release information about crimes and post details on their crime maps 7 days after each incident. Many other major cities post information within 24 hours.

If someone is not learning about Chicago crime incidents through scanner broadcasts, there can be criminals targeting specific areas for repeat robberies and burglaries within a 7 day period and people will be vulnerable and unaware in those areas. I have noticed that robberies especially can suddenly become a problem in a neighborhood or block that was otherwise safe for months previously.

I will continue to post details of major incidents that suggest that there is an active, ongoing threat with suspects at large. The CPD is doing a great job of catching some robbers and robberies and assaults are sometimes related to criminal activity such as drug dealing. I am not posting those incidents because they do not create a heightened danger for most citizens.

concern about safety

There is an urgent need for adequate lighting on the North side of the 606 at Bloomingdale and Western. The pavement is very uneven and dangerous to pedestrians. Also any traffic coming from the East trying to merge onto Western cannot see what's coming from northbound traffic on Western. There should be a way for cars to see what's coming on Western, in order to merge without blocking the crosswalk or entering Western since that's very dangerous to the moving cars on Western as well.

  • JeannyB Old Apartment renovator, architect,

. I still think a more intense street light would be necessary for the pedestrians though as repaving would probably not last due to Chicago climate and the fact that it's somewhat under a viaduct (the 606) which always has bad pavement anyway. That would be better than a stop sign, if it would stay visible. Right now you can see a little portion of coming traffic thru the posts, but not everything....and you're not totally sure of what's coming and how fast.
Where should it be placed exactly? T He more detail you tell the city, the better.

  • Artist girl Artist and Muscian

I didn't say a stop sign, I said a convex traffic mirror that would show approaching traffic reflected in it. It would solve the problem. You would place it to the right, on the north side of Bloomingdale, where it meets Western, and turn it so that it shows approaching traffic.

Trap Door Theatre is staging an expressionistic, phantasmagorical tale of eastern European drama. Their new production, Occidental Express, by Romanian-born playwright Matei Visniec, is a sometimes wacky, often chilling, always poetic meditation on war, borders, homeland and identity. The play was translated by Nick Awde and adapted and directed by Istvan Szabó K, also Romanian-born....

He was looking straight at me and jerking off. Appalled, I turned and walked the other way. Then I get to my house not even a block away and another different man in a white Nissan sedan is doing the same thing in his car in front of my house not even 5 minutes later. Two different dudes, two different white cars within less than a block away from each other. I did not have my phone on my so I did not call the police to report either incident and I was too grossed out to go back out the car parked in front of my house to get the plate number. Mute, according to Illinois Statutes and City Ordinance no matter what size of taser it is considered possession of a weapon. But a small pocket size taser or mace would be a misdemeanor. But I don't know any Police Officer that would charge you if you were being attacked and you used it. Mace is sold practically everywhere. You want to get the stream and not the spray. The stream does exactly that. The spray goes all over and could spray an innocent. The stream is like a water hose and goes directly at your target. There is a saying that says it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. The mace sells for about $10 to $15. I don't think you are the kind of person that would be walking down the street and be subject to stop and frisk. It is better to be safe than sorry. If you were my sister I wouldn't hesitate to get her both to protect herself. Stay safe Mute

Do Not Block Sidewalk

1807 N. Paulina,
Please do not block the public sidewalk. Today a client had to drag her son's wheelchair back towards Northshore Pediatric Therapy to cross to the other side of the street because your car was blocking the sidewalk. And you have giant rocks around the parkspace so she couldn't even "off road" it. If your car is too big to fit into your garage then your car is just plain too big.
Please remember that many Chicagoans are not able bodied and cannot squeeze around your vehicle to use the public sidewalks. We did not phone the police today, but will do so in the future.

  • That isn't too far from Tasty Treats World Headquarters. The house next door has the same problem. What kind of architect does that? To save the cost of a beam? Keep calling it in. If he keeps this up the cop who gets the call may remember and escalate or make it a point to drive down your block and ticket this guy when on patrol. As someone who once had to attend a wheelchair bound person something like this would mean war.

    Thank you neighbors. Good advice.
