Does Chicago Take Gun Cases Seriously? You Decide.
A twice-convicted felon was pulled over in Uptown on November 19 after police said he ran several stop signs and evaded their attempts to stop him. Martise Lewis, 29, crashed his car, jumped out and ran away, police said. Officers soon located him and took him into custody.

Judges are appointed. And after their term is up they appear on the election ballot as either keep or replace. If the citizenry chooses to keep them they repeat the term. If they are chosen to be replaced, a new appointment is made to fill the vacated post. So referring back to my original post, the simplest, and really the only way to enact change in this matter is to vote them out. It's not up to us to vet the replacement or to ensure that they are qualified to preside over that court. Bu the point is, if enough people are fed up with the criminal element in our community being released in a never ending cycle, only to commit crime after crime, then what we need to do is vote out these judges until they understand that their jobs are on the line unless some change is made. Simple.

Replace any judge with ANYONE other than those that grant miscreants the freedom to roam the streets to maraud and destroy. WHO CARES if a replacement is "qualified." If they have common sense and know the difference from good and bad behavior then it is pretty darn simple. Lock 'em up and let the rest of us enjoy our freedom and a safer society! Remember, if they are in jail they aren't rearing children which could save the state a lot of money in future welfare payments.

Question about possible cougar sighting in Illinois.

If this or any other cougars get spotted again, why will it most likely be shot & killed? How many cougars have already been killed here? Like 3, 4?

Why can't we just (supervise our pets and then) turn a blind eye to it? I'm guessing there are probably even more cougars running around than we even know about. They are just doing their thing and trying to live. Why do we have to kill them?

We are selling our 2 Bedroom Condo in Lakeview. We plan to take out the existing wood floor in family room and also take out bedroom carpeting. We plan to replace with a new wood floor through out the unit. We plan to buy at Home Depot. What flooring sells the best these days? Looking for a reco to appeal to prospective buyer.

  • Yep depending on the condition, Rebuilding Exchange finds a new home for it in its original form or uses it to make furniture and supply their woodworking classes.

  • Thanks for all of the good info! The old flooring is a laminate wood. And there is a subfloor underneath.

Police: Suspects target female victims in North Side armed robberies
Police are asking for the public's help identifying the suspects in three armed robberies Friday in the Bucktown and East Ukrainian Village neighborhoods on the North Side. VIDEO: Wicker Park Robbery Video Provides Another Learning Moment
The latest North Side robbery alert from Chicago Police focuses on three incidents reported Friday in Wicker Park. But everyone can learn by watching surveillance video of one of the hold-ups. One of the best ways to train your gut instinct is to learn how street criminals operate. Around 12:45 p.m.

  • This is good advice, because most of us don't notice cars coming and going into alleys. They got a good look at the robber, he's probably a teen from one of the highschools, and I guess one of the teachers or principals will recognize him.

Chi tech I agree with you. The city has money to throw at medians down the middle of the streets that cause tens of thousands to install and then millions to maintain. These are tax dollars that could go to helping these folks. Mute you too have a great point. Why should anyone walking in the evening, commuters walking to the train have to endure the garbage, the stench, accidentally walking past one while he is urinating? This isn't right either. Many are addicts and that's not okay. They got kicked out of their parents house, friends house, relatives house and now this is the "rock bottom" so does that mean we all need to embrace it?! What about those that are getting help like my son who could have been in this situation. He did 30 days twice at Rosecrans and has been clean for 4 years. The mentally ill I could see having the most compassion for. As for all of the rest no because there are places to get help. I've even given the info on this site and I bet it was never even tapped into. In the meantime I'll keep giving to the ones that I know won't ever be able to get a job because they're so old and so battered that no one would even consider them. As for the young ones with the tats and the ones that are drunk or high throwing their beer cans and bottles on the ground all while begging for more money, they get nothin' including my sympathy.

A big finger in the air to whomever decided to call my car in as "abandoned." Moved it for street cleaning a month ago and noticed a flat. Was looking to sell to a scrapper or donate once I had the chance to put the spare on but things tend to get busy around the holidays. Since the tow notice came while I was out of town, I'm looking at fees of over $500 when the car is worth less than $200 and additional towing fees to get it out of the pound.

The sad part is that cars don't get towed for being abandoned unless someone calls it in as being in the same spot for over 7 days. That means one of my neighbors took the time to file a complaint with the city about it. That's some sadistic behavior to free up one additional parking spot. It's winter in Chicago! Do you really think anyone has the time, money, or energy to deal with the auto pound right now?

If, by any chance, you're reading this, I hope you think about how your choices affect others next time you decide to file a complaint like this. We all share the same space. If it bothers you that a car is parked in the same spot for a few days, leave a gd note like a decent human being.

On January 4th at 9:52pm a car drove up and parked across the street from our house on Clarendon (exactly where the mugging and beating took place on November 8th). At 9:54:50pm a young man gets out of his car and walks down our street, at 9:55:45pm he returns to his car, at 9:57:02pm he gets back out of his car, heads straight to my classic 1997 Camaro parked in front of my house on Hutchinson, pulls out a large knife tool, and destroys the passenger side of my Camaro. I have it all on tape but unfortunately he was well covered with hoodie including his face, and the cameras could not pick up the license plate number.
I have a strong suspicion that this is in retaliation from my involvement of the muggings.
I am in contact with the lead detective on the muggings case to see how to proceed.
Let's keep an eye out please.

Water pipes frozen

Anyone else around the Diversey and Kedzie area experiencing no water in their homes today?

  • Faucets dont need to run, just trickle

The cost for the small amount of water is negligible.

    Broken pipes are more expensive

  • Not when we have a run of really cold weather. Mine froze a few years ago even though I had the water running a trickle. Fortunately, the pipes didn't burst and they thawed out when the weather warmed up.

The city replaced my meter and my bill went ftom $8 a month to $120. I hadn't increased my usage, and the city wouldn't do anything unless I had a plumber certify that there weren't any leaks. I wasn't living there, and they wouldn't turn the water off, so I had someone do it and sold the place. The new owners bought it as an investment, I doubt that they turned it back on.

I unfortunately am one of those homeless people who live under that bridge. I mean no harm to anyone especially the people who reside there on Kedzie and on sawyer. I would like to tell anyone who is interested that we do not want to be there anymore that you want us there. We mean no harm and we try to respect the community and all the people who pass through on a daily basis. Don't be scared of us. Try to keep an open mind. Notice that when you do pass through that we try very hard to keep it as clean as we can, we usually don't speak unless spoken to, and we never ask for anything. Some of deal with mental illness others have drug and alcohol problems but there are some of us who are very down on our luck with no family or place to go. If anyone would just reach out and ask they would know that we are harmless and we are just as afraid as you are remember we are there all night. We are alone we are treated as if we are not human and sometimes invisible as if this is what we really want sometimes people think the answer is as simple as getting a job which is a real challenge when you cannot keep your hygiene up, get proper rest and have no way to get back and forth imagine how frightening it is to go out all day and look for a job come back and find that the little bit you own has been discarded by the city. For just a minute put yourself in our shoes and maybe do for us what you would want someone to do for you if you were in our position. It absolutely is not as easy as it sounds.

Illinois Police Department call scam (?)

Has anyone recieved any calls from the Illinois Police Department asking for donations. At least once a year I receive a call from people claiming to be from the Illinois Police Department, in the calls they either ask for a donation to help fallen officers or in one call that I recieved recently, the person tried to sell me energy efficiency light bulbs (being that the proceeds benefit families of) As a senior citizen, I have always been aware of scams and have often wondered if this is such.

  • Always look up the Form 990 for not for profit charities. It is filed w/ the Secretary of State.

The Illinois Police Association ends up giving less than 10% of money raised to police charities on a yearly basis.

The also have high complaints with consumer groups about not removing phone numbers of those who request being removed.

  • nancy and d3. excellent suggestion. asking simply and politely for that org status can probably tell you all you need to know.

Witness a hit and run at 3818 N. Kimball Avenue at 11:00am on 12/28/17?

Hello. Did anyone witness a car crash at 3818 N. Kimball Avenue at 11:00am on 12/28/17? My car was parked there and there was a hit and run. I obtained the police report and that report states that a witness saw a black Mercedes driven by older man hit two cars (including mine) and drive off. Security footage would also be great, of course.

  • Chris H Kimball Ave Homeowner

Thank you very much for the response. I appreciate it. Does 11:00am sound right for the time of the crash?

  • MetroCyclist Food Crazy 9YR Inde Park/Albany Park Resident.

Yes 11 am, that sounds about right.

Lakeview -- are the stores open New Years day?

Hi everybody, I wasn't paying attention. Are Whole Foods, Jewel Walmart and other stores open today?

  • Check out websites. Almost all list their store hours on the holidays.

  • Yes...but you have to scour for the locations and there are varying hours with many; like Whole Paycheck (oops...Whole Foods). S0, I figure, just call the location.
