People Trying Doors - again

They took him out on a stretcher as he was so intoxicated (there was an empby bottle of grey goose next to him). The police treated the lady with the guy very dismissively not interviewing her at all or asking any questions until she mentioned that he was drinking due to finding out he had been diagnosed with HIV a week or so ago. THEN they scrambled.

no report filed just that they requested transport and treatment.

what terrible news - the individual needs counseling - reaching out to Howard Brown would be a good first step. Getting HIV is devastating but not the death sentence it was years ago. I understand proper medication and health attention can result in a normal life span. God Bless and help this individual - so sad.

Presence Closing

I was in there this evening doing some holiday shopping, and was told that the owners are moving on. Being a guy, I didn't shop there much, but they've been there since I've live in the area. I can't think of any other non-grocery stores that have been on the strip as long.

  • HG - Hmm, I thought they had been there longer. But, as I said, I didn't shop there.

The two that I especially miss were American Hands, and Paper Trail.

  • HarleyGrrl Why YES! People actually DO live on Clark St!

it was so sad when American Hands owners retired and closed along with the owner of the Paper Trail retiring and closing.

The problem with people with mental illness is most are in denial of their mental illness and someone along the way decided its their right to refuse treatment unless they basically tell you they have a plan to kill someone or themselves. Mental health services declined when rahm took office but then obama added mental health services to medicaid and expanded medicaid so more people could get it. Lets stop blaming Reagan. Lots of things have been denied then reinstated since reagan times.

Those who prefer to live on the street still don't deserve to starve, freeze, or be robbed of their possessions. They want to be able to use restrooms without being judged (or worse) and have the chance to wash themselves & their clothing. Maybe free lockers so they needn't keep all their worldly goods with them all the time. It is possible to provide these services without having to set up beds and security staff.

Found Bag of Money

Hello,

We just found a small bag of money in our store, it appears to possibly belong to a child. We found it at the bottom of a bin, so not sure if it has been there a while or not. If you believe it is yours or your child's, please send us a message describing it. We'd love to return it to it's rightful owner.

It has something written on it which could also make it seem as though it was left for someone to find. If that is the case, we would be happy to pass it along to brighten someone's day.

Thanks,

New Public Art Gallery & Venue on Granville Avenue and Winthrop

It's really cool to see that someone who has the means, support a neighborhood they believe so much in versus hoarding their cash or investing it elsewhere. Not sure if others heard about the new venue that Rae Ann and her husband developed and instituted in the neighborhood recently.

http://www.edgewaterartists.com/gallery-1070.html

Granville area is really becoming a great part of the Edgewater Neighborhood to live in. It's because of YOU, me and people like the Rae Ann (hope I am not messing up her name). You create your environment, your reality.

Excited to continue to build a great place to live with all of you.

    Gallery 1070 | A Chicago Art Gallery
Gallery 1070 is a Chicago art gallery in Edgewater, hosting group art shows & solo art exhibits. Rental space available for art classes and private parties.

  • Isn't 1070 W Granville on the opposite side of the street than the liquor stores in question?

  • Wazzup not available

@dan -there are no liquor stores on Granville -they were voted out about 7years ago

There are 2 restaurants that serve liquor -Gino’s North and Revival.

Both liquor stores that were a problem were voted dry at that time. This resolved the prostitution and gang loitering problem -they are now gone. This is how you clean up a bad street and convert it to pleasant restaurants, art gallery, art school and residential apartments. Add a little streetscape to complete the charm.

Neighbor leaving food for animals

I have a neighbor who keeps dumping food (bread, kibble) in the alley behind our building. I have asked her about this and she says she's "feeding the birds". However, we have a problem with racoons and rats and I'm afraid she's only helping to attract them. I have seen racoons, squirrels and rats go at the pile she leaves, but no birds. I know that other folks in our building have asked her to stop & she just doesn't get why. I'm wondering, I know there are laws against feeding wild animals in other cities - but does Chicago have one?
