Log Cabin Republican Calls Police on Wrong Woman

In what appears to be another case of calling the police because someone is Black, Morry Matson, Log Cabin Republican candidate for Edgewater's Mayor, has a lot of explaining to do. His last claim to fame was promoting a multi-million dollar carnival boardwalk in front of lots of people's homes and cutting off their unobstructed views of the lake.

Black woman says CVS manager called police because she had wrong coupon
Camilla Hudson wanted to use a manufacturer's coupon at CVS on North Broadway on Friday night, but a manager who said he'd never seen a coupon like that called the police, she said in a Facebook post. "So, THIS just happened: I had the police called on me for attempting to use a coupon @ the CVS Pharmacy located at 6150 N.

It’s funny that you believe there was little evidence to support a claim of disparate treatment but you readily claim the CVS person was fired because of discrimination against him. You could have just as easily concluded that the person was disciplined because he failed to offer quality customer care and instead he escalated a situation that might have been defused. In my experience if a worker interfered with the bottom line, they would probably be fired.

You then mention a situation where a woman claimed racism without real evidence. The manager in that case handled the situation adequately and said there was no evidence of racism yet you walked away angry.

Are there people who make irresponsible claims for whatever reason, yes. That does not erase the many situations of racism in this country. In a management position I was once accused of sexual harassment. No truth at all to this. But while I was angry and dissapiinted in the person who caused great disruption in my life, I don’t doubt that in the vast majority of these cases those who come forward are probably telling the truth.

Ultimately, it is a matter of what society you believe we live in. You have faith that we live in a society where people pretty much are treated fairly.

I except the fact that we are a patriarchical and racist country that has not overcome the legacy of slavery and conquest and in fact has gone on a course that ramps up racial tension, animosity and repression.

Examine who you are and your own blinders that distort your social understanding.

BTW, your belief that a cupón whose barcode did not pick up is humously naive. As all those who have had to battle wrongly issued traffic tickets, been inaccurately charged at a register or denied one has a flight booked when the e-ticket is in your hands can attest.

I have had a tug of war with CVS over their sales records and coupons because of the chaos caused by their issuance of two different IDs, which at one time they insisted I need to have and then informed me that I had to combine the two and yet still continue to question me when I try to validate a coupon. The store managers have generally been polite and accommodating but after a year I am still in limbo.

You are an amusing man and a true believer.

  • Gil, please realize that the cost the customer pays is not only paying for the restaurant to buy the food, but also the wages, the rent, and everything else. Things are more expensive nowadays.

  • wages? chicago does not provide servers with living wages, nor do the restaurants, when they beg for tips.

Watching fireworks from Cycle and Saddle was a scary experience on July 4th if you were at Osterman Beach at Ardmore. 2 Private groups were constantly sending off HUGH fireworks in an attempt to compete with Cycle & Saddle. The noise was deafening- the sparks showered down on observers - and the Cycle and Saddle show was completed blocked out. Despite the very dangerous situation- Not a policeman in sight despite the obvious illegal activity. Watching Cycle and Saddle fireworks was impossible. Many finally left - and i suspect will never return to Osterman Beach for fireworks. This is a shame - a few individuals were allowed to ruin what should have been a great event. I suspect the high rises surrounding Ardmore were not happy either. Did they call police? The Alderman needs to give this appropriate attention next year. What a shame.

  • headsup not available

not the black high rise - we were on the Ardmore side of Osterman beach and they were shooting big rockets on that beach - sound blasting off the high rises and had sparks settling on the beach causing people to scatter creating a wide 'no man's land"

  • Helen NoH North of Howard for 55 + years

Why don't you just join Saddle and Cycle, headsup? I believe you claim to have the proper upbringing and background. That way you can enjoy the fireworks from the club next year and won't have to put up with the riff raff on the public beach. If you apply, though, I suggest you use the proper name for the club and not Cycle and Saddle as in your OP.

Is there a place to meet nice people?

I've lived here for 4 years in a great building and I love the neighborhood. The only thing is, most of my friends and social events are south and I have to travel to see them.
Is there a hangout or someplace where I can meet and get to know my Edgewater neighbors?
Thanks! :)
