Flooded basement

I have about 12 inches of water in my basement from the recent storm that needs to be pumped out. Can anyone recommend someone honest and reliable?

  • @DebbieM, glad to hear the basement will be cleaned up correctly. It's something we take for granted sometimes, a dry basement over the lifetime of home ownership.

  • AS50, yes, I always thought a pool would be nice but not this way.

The BeefBelly restaurant at Lawrence and Central has closed. The shades are all shut with paper signs saying Tipsy Cow Cantina. Always thought it was odd to open so close to BrgrBelly on Irving.

The "Tipsy Cow Cantina” opens this December and will feature tacos, salads, burritos, nachos, live music, karaoke, an amazing margarita bar…get ready for a whole new fresh and fun environment…

Also, Molly & Myles Ice Cream has closed for the season. We look forward to seeing you this coming Spring.'

    Huddie,

I, for one, will try the new place. I don't often drink but it seems that I always want a Margarita when I eat Mexican food! I liked the beef because there was something just a little tastier about it and am disappointed it's gone. I love your burgers, too, and will check out the new table service.

I have to smile at all the "wishes" that people express, not only for your new restaurant, but also about what they'd like to see at Six Corners or in Portage Park in general. I wish was I was 25 and rich but . . . I appreciate what it takes to make a business a success and I thank you for your continued interest in (y)our neighborhood.

Found dogs

Sharing again, now 2 dogs found together....let's get them home.

  • Yes there are tnr colonies which help in the rodent problems.Yes they are fed and have shelter but I'm sure the life span of an out door cat is shortened . Ideal life would be an indoor cat who's life span can be 20.

  • "on average, cats who are allowed to roam outdoors often don't live to see age five. Cats who are always kept safely confined can live to be 18 to 20 years old."

Indoor cats live more than twice as long as outdoor cats!

Internet Service Providers???

We are moving to Portage Park soon and we are looking for recommendations on internet providers. We are hoping to avoid the big companies like Comcast and AT&T. Thanks!!

  • Lisahew Business owner who live works in neighborhood

    Highly recommend http://www.12global.com/
Super fast, affordable small new local company that is competing with the big guys. I have used their service for almost 8 months and all has been excellent thus far - no buffering and a human to attend to your issues without recordings, etc. You buy your own router. I hope they blow the big guys out of the water.

Electrician Recommendations For Installing Cable Wires in Walls?

Hey Everyone,

I am buying a condo that has cable wired for the living room and the master bedroom. However, I want to move the cable hookup to the opposite wall in the living room and add a hookup to the spare bedroom.

Any suggestions/recommendations for electricians in the area who can do this type of work? I know Comcast would run the wires, but they won't run them through walls so that is out.

Also, anyone have experiences with this and roughly how much it cost? All answers appreciated.

Thanks!

Approx 4 shots fired this morning 4100/4200 N. Lockwood from a passing car. Nothing but trouble coming from that corner apartment building across from the school. Police were notified . Be careful out there & report incidents.

BREAKING NEWS!!! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE...

From the Office of Mayor Wrong E. Manual

As a result of an intensive 10 year study from the University of Chicargo, the city council has voted for the immediate removal of all automobiles, vans, trucks or similar devices from within the city. The study clearly shows that 100% of all accidents involving injury to pedestrians and motorists or their passengers are associated with self powered motorized conveyances. Therefore, the only sound remedy is the removal of all such machines from our community.

Effective on December 1, 2017, any person possessing or operating an automobile, van, truck or similar device within the city limits will be arrested on felony one charges of willful pubic endangerment under the new municipal code (under home rule exception). There will be no second chance.

New transportation permits will be available for single or multiple horse, mule or bicycle drawn carriages at a rate varying from $50-200 per year. There will be an additional fine for failure to remove animal feces on the roadway of $50 per incident.

Because of their ability to exceed new speed limits of 10 MPH, genetically engineered transportation animals are forbidden and if suspected, a DNA sample will be taken. If found in violation, an additional fine of $1,000.

For those citizens requiring handicapped exemptions, rickshaw allowances may be granted upon full vetting and approval. Prevailing applicants must demonstrate they cannot walk from the corner of State and Madison to clerk's desk at city hall without having a heart attack or stroke.

Regardless of conveyance form, a city sticker priced at $500 per year will still be required for each axle of a conveyance.

Existing boot and impoundment ordinances will remain in force as modified for the new forms of conveyances.

Stay tuned for more details... LOL!

"""Dear Parents/ Guardians and Community Members,
It is with deep sadness that we inform you about a recent loss to our school community. On Saturday, October 14 at a little after 11 am, Mrs. Shelly Magnus, a valued teacher at Belding Elementary, passed away.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. Please join with Belding Staff in our commitment to support our students and the Magnus family during this time of loss.
This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns and questions for the entire school, especially our staff and students. Next week we will have a number of counselors at the school to provide grief counseling and support to students and staff. These individuals will be in the building to assist our school community.
Information about the services will be made available as soon as we have it. There will be a family funeral in Indiana first, and sometime later a Chicago celebration of her life at the Irish American Heritage Center.
If your child wishes to attend, we strongly encourage you to accompany him or her to the service. If you or your children wish to send a condolence card to the family you may send it to the school and we will ensure the family receives these.

Anybody have a great pediatrician and OBGYN (and hospital) they would recommend?

I'm looking for a great OBGYN and a good hospital to have my baby at. (I've looked at the hospital reviews and because of them I'm kind of wanting to have my baby in another state at this point.) Please help! I also haven't been able to find a pediatrician or OB with great reviews who is nearby. I'd prefer someone close but am willing to go downtown too. Thank you so much for recommendations! I really appreciate it 😊

I’ve had two with NorthShore and had great experiences both times. I went to one appointment at Swedish Covenant and never returned, so I can’t compare much, but other Moms I’ve talked with about it, I’ve had much better experiences. Their app gives you email access to the Dr or Nurse for questions, and they almost always respond in 4 hours or less, frequently 2 hours or less. Delivery experiences were great both times. I had one nurse I wasn’t a fan of, but out of two entire deliveries, I’ll call that pretty good (and I was probably crabby.)

There’s an OB and Ped office on Touhy and babies are delivered at Evanston Hospital. Ped recommendation is Amanda Britt, OB is the office on Touhy (Drs are Jones, Thorpe, Conte, Horowitz, Muresan, all great.) I know there are closer options, but if you have a car, the care you receive is worth it!

    Good luck!

  • Prentice women's hospital with Northwestern Memorial. Choose a pediatrician from Lurie Children's Hospital (formerly Children's Memorial).

  • Thanks so much, I'll definitely check those out!! I had one appointment with Swedish Covenant and wasn't very impressed.

Arena is the one who does not support business. Arena killed the City funding for the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce not once but twice. Arena went on an out of control rant demanding that the City department that funds the Chambers in the City not give the funding to the Jefferson Park Chamber. You don't seem to understand that Arena killed the funding for the Jeff Chamber not once but twice. John Arena is the biggest phony on the Chicago City Council! Boarded up apartment bldg on 3700 Central?

Does anyone know what gives with the boarded up apartments on 3700 (ish) Central. Looks like a gut to condo and they're waiting for all tenant leases to expire? Been this way for a long while now and is not a pretty sight.

  • If you are referring to the one on Byron/Central, it is a huge eyesore. I believe former slumlord had a ton of code violations that where tied up in court and never corrected and then home was foreclosed. Now it sits there as an eyesore. Hoping some developer buys it up and turns it into a nice rehab.

(Thank god my parents didnt put me on meds as suggested.) then when I got out they kicked me out and called the police saying I ran away. Told me if the police found me I was going to Audi home! Something don't add up here! She didn't say she was going to go to new York because things were fine at home! Probably sick of parents shoving 4 meds down her throat! Good luck to them all!

Entire block of street lights out on Warwick - Long to Lindner.

Was there some electrical work being done near the 5400 block of Warwick? The entire street is pitch black at night. I reported 4 days ago and nothing. Not cool!!

  • PortageRules Love Portage Park!

It is. The alley light behind 5412 is still out. But, that light might require more work as the kids who congregate around there like to randomly throw rocks and they may have hit it like they did my house recently.

  • It’s a different request for an alley light out. I can submit it if you need help

Mental Health Therapy Friendly Office Space in the area?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of available rental space for a mental health therapy office in the Old Irving park, Kilbourn park, Irving Park, and Portage Park areas. I am more than happy to sublet from existing practices. I am hoping to find an office suitable for individual and family therapy, and it would be amazing to find a group therapy space as well.

Thank you so much for your time.

  • Weebis SWCC Vet. (Ret.)

Thanks Mute. I was just curious. The place has sort of a mysterious aura.

  • Even my explanation has a mysterious aura. Due to privacy laws its hard to exactly say what kind of patients are getting treatment there bit that's what I could dig up.

Caught Man casing my house

Drove up to my house on block of 4900 W Warwick to see a young man walking down the side of my house. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with hood on "Kenny from South Park" style so face was not visible. I asked what is he doing and he shrugged me off and started walking fast around the corner. Noticed my back gate from alley wide open as well as side gate. Ran to chase and get picture but be had disappeared. Be on watch and keep windows locked. My back window was wide open and if hadn't came home, he probably would have broken in.

Incident in alley@ 10:20 pm

In the alley between Roscoe in Henderson an SUV with at least two guys in it and one guy walking with a girl his arms around her I heard the girl screaming called 911 the cops came the SUV went down through the alley it's a dead end and I seen the guys jump out of the car, and jump a fence by the train tracks, does anyone know what happened?

  • Checked the scanner. Call came in around 10:20 for battery in progress in the alley 4300 block of Roscoe. When cops showed up everyone was gone

  • Thank you for calling 911. Too many people ignore these sorts of things and/or assume someone else is calling.

  • Weebis SWCC Vet. (Ret.)

But remember the politicians and their lapdogs in the local msm tell us all the time that "Crime is down."

Take the red pill people. Listen to the police scanner frequencies for the 16th and 17th Districts. Crime in the area is omnipresent.

Update: Pedestrian refuge islands removed from 6 Corners to be rebuilt

Update: Chicago Transportation Department says the islands were impeding traffic the way they were initially installed. Construction of new islands is expected start next week. http://nadignewspapers.com/2017/10/04/pedestrian-refuge-islands-at-6-corners-removed-after-recently-being-installed/

  • Nice - so my main question is, who's paying for this? Is this coming out of the Alderman's budget or the city budget? With as much oversight and permitting and inspections required to do anything in this city, it just boggles the mind how this can happen. SMH....

  • Depends on who’s fault it was for being incorrectly installed
