Guy rings doorbell asking to speak about one of the politicians running.

Yesterday I had a gentleman ring my doorbell, ask for me by first name but said he is hoping for my vote? How would they get my name if the apt is under my gfs name? I didn't open the door but thought that was odd.

I am more or less confused, dont think he was malicious, but found it strange.

  • Slick in UV longtime resident of Ukrainian Village

100% what 47hutch said... try voting as a Republican in the next primary, you will never again be bothered!!! lol... Republicans don't canvas in the City of Chicago!

  • Look at it as an excellent opportunity for a one-on-one Q&A with a candidate. Ask the important questions and evaluate his responses. And always ask how they intend to pay for what they are promising.

Dibs are not only Unappreciated, but Also Illegal

Hey everyone, I know with the snow this year it's a real pain in the butt to dig your car out from the side of the road. But dibs are tacky, unhelpful, and make our beautiful neighborhood look like a dump. If everyone who dug out a spot left the spot, there would be a spot for everyone who needed one.

None of us own the streets in Chicago and none of us can claim ownership of a parking spot on these public ways. I don't even park on the street, but if I see dibs I unequivocally move them up onto the sidewalk in an unobtrusive area.

Be a good neighbor - don't place dibs.

If I had to guess, it’s the house with the 2958 address that got shot at.

The guys that live at the location are bad news. They attract violence. I don’t know if the shootings are gang related, but I’ve seen drugs and guns at that location and now they are being shot at. It’s really scary and there are a lot of little kids in the area.

Does anyone have further info or has anything to add to this post? I want to contact the police and anything neighbors can add may be helpful.

Thanks

Chicago's "Smart Lighting Project" is NOT smart!

Blinding LED streetlights have failed in NYC and LA, but Chicago keeps plodding ahead with first generation lighting. If you don't want your neighborhood to look like Fulton Market, call your Alderman and tell them you want warm PC Amber LED's in Chicago not "night game" lighting on your residential street. https://www.facebook.com/groups/155084901640186/

This is a prime example of how to not do campaigning.

All Vicki ever does is to assume everyone shares her point of view so she tries to speak for everyone. Once that fails, she starts name calling and labelling, telling everyone that she’s right and everyone is wrong, that she wants to have intelligent conversations while everyone else is insensitive, that she’s a good citizen while everyone else is a troll, that her HPS lights are beautiful and everyone’s LEDs make the city look like Walmart parking lots and mosques. Once that fails, she resorts to personal attacks.

All quality traits for someone that is trying to get people to support their cause.

***REWARD***

***REWARD***

If any of my neighbors on the 3700 block of St. Louis / Bernard alley have video footage from Friday night and Saturday day (9pm Friday to 2pm Saturday, please PM me and I will gladly pay. Someone got into my garage, opened the overhead door and placed a piece of wood trim nails up on the threshold of the overhead doorway. The police will not let me file a report because I do not own the property and I saw the nails before I drove over them. Thanks very much.

  • Exactly, Jim. I should have driven over them so I could file a report to have when this nutter escalates

  • Carl Gergits Long time resident

Sorry to hear that someone would do that. Good luck catching the goons......

Car key found

I found a Kia car key on Grace, just west of Janssen yesterday. PM me to identify.

  • Hi Cazh - I lost a key in that area over the weekend, but it's a Subaru car key. Just make sure the one you found is definitely a Kia? Mine was on a heart shaped key ring with a gold and silver key too, but it's possible that the car key may no longer be attached to the key ring. Thanks for double checking the one you have!

  • Hi Ashbash1013. Sorry to say the key has Kia written on it.
Hope you’re successful in your search.

Warning: car warranty scam

I just got a call on my cell phone from a guy who was trying to sell me a new warranty for my car because my existing warranty was expiring. It started out with a recorded message and then asked if I wanted to speak with someone. When I said yes, I was connected to a man who said he was with "Safecar." When I asked where he'd gotten my number, he said he didn't know because he wasn't with the marketing department. When I asked what vehicle he was calling about, he hung up.

This is the number that showed up on my Caller ID: (773) 493-0935.

I will be filing a complaint with the FCC but wanted to warn everyone.

Watch out for Auto Warranty Scams
The FCC Consumer Center noticed an increase in complaints and inquiries from consumers who received calls about renewing their automobile warranties. During the calls, which are usually automated or pre-recorded, the consumer is told that the warranty on his or her automobile is about to expire and is instructed to press a number to renew it.

  • I'm still getting regular mail and phone calls for a vehicle that is 10 years old. Someone must be falling for this.

  • I've gotten mail for relatives who passed away several years ago, including an offer to be an Uber driver for my mom who never had a driver's license. Someone is selling old mailing lists.

Chicago Nonprofit InjusticeWatch Digs Into Judicial Candidates
You're standing in the voting booth, staring down at a long list of people running for judicial positions, and you have no idea which candidates you should vote for. Now there's help: InjusticeWatch, a Chicago-based non-partisan, not-for-profit journalism organization, is publishing a series of investigations on local judicial candidates up for election in Illinois' March 20th primary.

As long as Judge Carol Howard is booted I will be happy. She’s the idiot who gave the woman who tossed her just-born baby out of a 4th story window “house arrest”. She is a joke and a travesty to the criminal justice system.

Maybe there should be an explicit campaign to educate voters on her.

LOST Cat - 100$ Reward

Hi everyone. Our forever outdoor cat Baxter (gray and white tabby on left in second picture) is still missing. We’ve never been able to keep a collar on him, he’s been neutered, not chipped. Small rip in left ear. Please be on the lookout and let me know if anyone has seen him. Please also take a minute to check any garages, basements, outdoor crawl spaces or under decks/porches, or basically anywhere a cat could sneak in to hide or get stuck. They are curious animas.
You may also call the number 773-407-6961 if you have any details regarding him or have seen him. A 100$ reward is up. Please and thank you.

  • We are a ways away but I will definitely watch for him and keep you in our thoughts. As someone who loves cats, it's easy to imagine how hard this must be.

  • Thank you all. We’re still holding out hope. I will give treehouse a call. We’ve checked with them to see if anyone brought a cat in like him but no luck yet. I don’t think he would gravitate to a colony but you never know.

Parking garage

Recently I have come to need a parking garage in order to do some maintenance on my car, and store tools. Does anyone have a 1 or 2 car garage for rent somewhere nearby on a month to month lease?

I saw the windows are boarded up and it says they are closed on Yelp! Anyone know what happened or what’s going on?
