Chicago, the greatest of the Great Lake cities is Coast 3.0,

Other Great Lake cities get a decimal, odd numbers to the north and west, even to the east. So it's Milwaukee if Coast 3.1, , Duluth 3.4, Cleveland 3.2, Detroit 3.4....etc. For Toronto and Montreal we negotiate through the U.N.

Gulf Coast is the 4th Coast.

The there is Alaska...a state with 3 coasts:

    Pacific: Coast 5.0
Bering Strait and Aleutian chain: Coast 5.1
    Arctic Coast:5.2

    It's that easy.

Lost Cat

My cat, Quincy, has been missing for about 2 days. We last saw him near Barry heading south on Kedzie. Any info is appreciated!

  • So glad to hear Quincy is home! And safe and sound!
Those rascals! Always looking for an adventure, and sometimes they find one....!
They scare the bejeezus out of us when they're missing, but it's too hard to scold them when they're found, because you're just so darned relieved to have them back.
    Glad he's home.

  • hooray, he is home.

Metal & Iron Stairs Repair - any recommendations?

Hello, I've been having difficulty finding any contractors in Chicago who perform repair and maintenance on metal/iron stairs. We have a landing that's rusted through and need to replace it. Does anyone have any recommendations? Deck contractors I've spoken with only recommend to demolish the metal/iron stairs and build it all new wooden.

Furniture donation?

In an effort to make our spare bedroom less of a hoarder's cave, we are looking to get rid of some furniture we've outgrown (mostly baby's room furniture). We have a glider chair, changing table, and a few other pieces that are clean and in usable condition. Anybody know a good place to donate where these could go to new moms or families who would appreciate them?

  • Just a heads up, I contacted Humble Design Chicago and they are no longer accepting furniture donations.

  • Thanks for the update, Katie! I reached out to my contact at Humble Design Chicago who confirmed the warehouse is pretty full of big furniture items but they remain in need of the following household goods, if anyone is looking to unload:

-Kitchen- any small appliances (microwaves, toasters, crock pots), dishes, pots/pans, baking sheets, cutting boards, utensils, placemats, etc.
    -Bathroom- towels, trinkets, shower curtains
-Knick Knacks- vases, candles, baskets, book ends, etc.
    -Linen- sheets, comforters, bed skirts

Rapper JPEGMafia calls LA home, but Baltimore shapes his album Veteran
A few days after a fire killed 36 people at an Oakland warehouse space called the Ghost Ship in December 2016, Baltimore city officials quickly shut down and condemned the Bell Foundry, a two-story multidisciplinary arts space filled with recording studios and living areas; dozens of tenants were evicted with expedience.

Experimental-metal supergroup Rlyr explore their poppy side on their second LP, Actual Existence
Those familiar with Chicago's heavy-music scene got what they were expecting on Delayer , the 2016 debut record from Chicago experimental-metal supergroup Rlyr. On it Pelican guitarist Trevor De Brauw, Locrian and Cleared drummer Steven Hess, and former Russian Circles/sometimes Bloodiest bassist Colin DeKuiper combined their powers to make an album of expansive instrumental postmetal that steamrolled their aggressive and pretty sides together.

Get lucky with a Friday the 13th tattoo
What better way to celebrate the upcoming Friday the 13th in April than with a commemorative tattoo? Although it might seem contradictory to honor a holiday for the star-crossed and accursed, the tradition supposedly dates back to sailors - known for their "old school" body art - who tattooed the number "13" to ward off bad fortune.

Seeking Recommendations for Furnace Repair Service Company

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy and reasonably priced HVAC repair service?

  • I second Deljo

  • Spyros at A Climate Source. I think I found him on here when Deljo (who I had used before too) couldn't get an emergency appointment scheduled for 6 days. (Furnace motor for a tenant stopped in -20.) Since then all my business has gone to Spyros. I've met his whole crew over the years and like them all. Good pricing too.
