Carriage Horse

So this was strolling down Granville just now in front of Pete's. Please tell me this isn't going to become a thing.

  • Barbara Marie RP resident since 2002

There are sanctuaries for animals, including horses, across the country. And often kind people who already own horses and can care for them, will take them in. These horses are just being worked to death, and will end up as dog meat anyway when they grow too old to earn their keep.

  • The poor horses always look so tired. It's unnatural and dangerous for them to be pulling carriages on city streets in the middle of traffic. Time to ban the horse-drawn carriages.

Hit and a run to parked car

My vehicle was hit while I sat in the car at Chipotle (5224 N Broadway St) yesterday. The woman ran and I tried to follow her but stopped when she almost hit a pedestrian. She was driving a black Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or similar vehicle. I believe it had personalized red license plates with the word RETZ.
If anyone has any info on this vehicle please message me or contact the police.
My girlfriend got a few pictures but they’re pretty blurry.

  • Jsmack75 Concerned Citizen

Thanks everyone for your comments and concerns. This has been completely resolved. Thanks again Erin!

  • So sorry to read this; I hope that the girlfriend's parent were informed of their daughter's bad-a** behavior. If those two were my kids, they'd be grounded for a long time.

lead in our water? O'Connor doesn't care!!

http://a.msn.com/01/en-us/AAw2hzx?ocid=se

O'Connor continues to suck up to Emanuel and tries to suppress investigation.Maybe it's time for him to go....

Aldermen want hearings about lead in Chicago water, but an Emanuel ally sidelines them for now
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's City Council floor leader on Wednesday sidelined for now a proposed public debate over whether the city's doing enough to lower the amount of lead in drinking water. A group of aldermen introduced a resolution Wednesday calling for committee hearings on whether the city and state violate federal water laws.

We have to vote him out. Rumor has it his plan is to win and hand the seat to his daughter. He is more concerned about his wife's real estate business and yes, sucking up to the mayors. He is absolutely worthless. Do your research on who is running against him and make an informed decision. He has to go. Obviously, he does not care about the people in the ward.

  • JoeFlatwoods Love my Albany Park Neighborhood

He has never responded to one complaint that I had about a friend's neighbor who's yard looks like a junk yard and is spilling out into the alley at that. So why would one expect him to care about the water one drinks or showers in?

Door-to-door utility slamming scam: BEWARE

CHICAGO RESIDENTS: beware of door-to-door scammers posing as ComEd employees. Going around the Uptown/Andersonville neighborhood (and likely elsewhere); they will knock on your door and identify themselves as "from ComEd," then they try to scare you with "your meter isn't working, and you're being overcharged" (your meter is fine) in order to socially engineer you into signing up to switch your electricity supplier to SparkEnergy.

I just turned one of them away from my door, which is behind a secured outer door at ground level. Likely they are following people into secured residential buildings and knocking on every door to see who's home. To be clear: they are NOT affiliated with ComEd, your meter is not broken, and this is a slamming scam to get you to switch electricity suppliers.

Ignore their words: ask to see their identification badge (they wear an employee badge on a lanyard, likely so they can claim they didn't mis-identify themselves). Their badge will have the SparkEnergy company name/logo on it. SparkEnergy is one of MANY suppliers you can buy your electricity from. They are not the cheapest -- they're more expensive by far than ComEd and a majority of other available providers.

No, I do not have any reference link at the moment.

But I had read a couple of articles sometime back as well as met 2 people affected in a similar situation, One of whom, lost her brand new tv and some jewelry in a break in burglary, less than a week after these Scammers visited, while she went to work.

Someone on her floor or in her building, found the 2 people, a male and a female suspicious and was walking towards them, when they dropped the tv and took off. When the lady returned home, she found her entire bedroom had been turned upside down.

I and my new neighbors welcome all. That anti gentrification tension is probably why Humboldt Park rents are lower. If you check the news, many neighbors have started to put an end to the violence on their own. We are going after stores and buildings that attract gangs and violent criminals. Get rid of problem stores and buildings, you stop the anti gentrification movement. Join us in making Humboldt Park a great place to raise a family again. Together we can.
