Alley light not fixed as of June 2017 despite calling 311 3x and requesting service on-line 2x

I pay hefty Chicago/Cook County taxes and every year they increase-and yet, I can't get the city to fix the alley light. Twice I have seen it reported on-line with the status "closed". When I call 311 to complain they don't want to hear anything other than the address and click-they disconnect. Is this the norm? Does it usually take this long? Let's face it, our neighborhood is no longer safe and a dark alley is asking for trouble.

  • JL

With all the new lights on Morgan if one went out I wounder how long it would take to get fix LOL I have the same problem 3 months and still waiting

  • R Brighton Park

That is ridiculous-I guess it is the norm. Well, I did call the Alderman's office earlier this week. Let's hope something gets done. Thanks to all for the comments.

Martinez, who was charged with unlawful restraint, has prior convictions for assaulting the same woman, prosecutors said, and the victim had a pending order of protection that barred him from her home in the 2400 block of West 42nd Street.

Stop the Violence

We seriously need to organize a March in Brighton Park. How do we go about this? Can I get pointers, help with this? This is possibly the worse yr for this neighborhood ever. I've been living in Brighton Park my whole life and I don't recall anything close to all the violence going on this bad. Can we make this an event? Is there anyone willing to help with this?

  • Easy Money "Ask not what your country can do for you; ..."

You want the violence to stop? Let local authorities work with ICE.

Truth be told, most of the crime being committed in Brighton Park is done by the children of illegal aliens.

If their parents get deported those Ese will begin to obey the law.

  • Disagree, Has nothing to do with having illegal aliens as parents. Why deport their parents? They're not causing violence. They need to bring back funds so mentors can work with troubled kids in the schools/neighborhood. It may not have saved /changed every troubled kid but it made a difference while mentoring was going on. Youths had someone to talk to and places to occupy their time at/with besides the streets. They(Kelly hs) haven't had a mentor since 2006, Miguel Contreras, last I remember. He was a mentor for awhile when I was in HS and he began to train me to work with troubled youths until they cut out funds. It's been history since then, the streets just got wilder.

I am asking for suggestions on what to do. My original post was removed by everyblock.

As stated above, my original post was removed and I don't know why. I kept it general with no names or location. I will attempt again making it more general. I need suggestions on what to do about children damaging, stealing and trespassing onto my property. My neighbors kid and his friends jump the fence and run through my front and back yard. They run wild with no supervision. I already have had altercations with the parents, as they are not civil. Someone please give me options.

  • R Brighton Park

Thank you all. I definitely will look into video surveillance systems. (Thanks for mentioning the Lorex system emj1900). Sounds like this is my best option.

  • Camera will provide the necessary evidence to resolve this situation

  • Have you made flyers to post around your neighborhood? Those have worked for me in the past. Good luck!

  • Bruce Brighton Park

This is one reason why I don't leave my dog in the yard by himself. If you can't stay with the dog while outside don't have one. There is way too many weird things happening in the city. This might seem a little harsh but I love my dogs and they don't go out without me watching them. Don't give me the excuses either why you couldn't.

Why is there so much PROTECTION for people who are not US Citizens under the WORD SANCTUARY and NO PROTECTION for People who are US Citizens that resides in the City of Chicago. Exactly how does the WORD SANCTUARY apply to a US Citizens SAFETY. The Mayor has the NERVE to use the LIVES of others too protect CRIMINALS is a DISGRACE and those who don't have there CITIZENSHIP. The LAW is the LAW. The City of Chicago is NOT a FRIENDLY, CARING, SAFE, PEACEFUL, FUN, LOVELY and HAPPY PLACE, when the Mayor is PROVIDING A SAFE HAVEN for others who have VIOLATED the REQUIREMENTS to become a US Citizen. When a WORD SANCTUARY have more power then the Statement "PUBLIC SAFETY IS A PRIORITY". Since the Mayor and other Elected Officials refuse to follow the LAW. There is NO LAW that says anyone that DISAGREES with Chicago being a SANCTUARY CITY has to AGREE with the Mayor and other Elected Officials and be a part of their CHOICE to disobey the LAW.
