Locksmith Recommendations

Hey Everyone,

I need to have the locks changed at the condo I closed on (and if possible, have them on the same key; right now the deadbolt and regular handle have separate keys).

All responses appreciated. Thanks!

To see if your two existing locks can be keyed alike try to insert the key from one lock into the other. It will not open it but you just want to see if it will enter. If it does then remove one lock (the easy one) and take it and both keys to the locksmith. He will key the lock you bring to the key for the other lock.
There are some cases where this will not work (one key is longer than the other for example) but it usually will.
Note: You did not say if the deadbolt is key on both sides or key / knob. If key on both take the knob lock with both keys to change the knob.

Chicago's Safest And Most Dangerous Neighborhoods Based On Shootings
Last week I posted on Chicago's safest and most dangerous neighborhoods based on the murder rate. Although that's a pretty popular way for people to make a determination of a neighborhood's relative safety it's actually a pretty narrow definition. A lot of bad things an happen to people without them getting murdered.

Its a sad state of affairs when citizens are more worried about being discriminated against by the police vs being a victim of crime by a non police officer.

In 2016 stop and frisks went down 80% here in chicago. Anyone know if crime went up any ?

Id like to think cops still profile but i dont know. They stop profiling me when i stopped driving my cutlass with ttops tinted windows and sound system and moved out of that ghetto called uptown.

David 1929, I agree that is the current state of policing in Chicongo and crook county, but if the CPD rank and file was to tour/patrol in a "fetal" fashion, then they shouldn't be paid or collect benefits via the taxpayers for subpar law enforcement work. If CPD will not act as "The thin blue line," then what are civilians supposed to do to protect themselves? Turn vigilante? Or will it turn into a urban Lord of the Flies?

The ACLU oversight on CPD street stops, Kimisha Foxx failing to charge or allowing violent felons "of color" to plea down heinous crimes, the local and national leftist msm's 'War on the Police,' which by the way, way initiated by Obama's anti-cop Department of Justice, and local politicians pandering to "the community," has had a chilling effect on proactive police work.

The "Ferguson Effort" is real. Crime is up. Don't believe The media lies. They act as Emmanuel's personal stenographers as does CPD Superintendent " Special Ed."

What's truly necessary is a Star Chamber to liquidate/neutralize the recedivist criminal element, and vote weak on crime politicians out of office.

CHICAGO -- For the past seven years, Air Force veteran Anthony Johnson has been selling newspapers out of a beaten up stand at the corner of Milwaukee and Faragutt. Chicago Police Lieutenant John Garrido connected with Anthony about a year ago and decided to give Anthony a better place to sell his newspapers.

Garrido posted a Facebook Live video asking for help. Volunteers stepped up, and they spent the last few weeks transforming this stand.

All of this was done with the help of local sponsors like Tony Marino of Marino Jeep. They took Johnson to the local Dick's Sporting Goods and bought Johnson all new winter attire to help him stay warm.

Johnson makes about $120 a week from his newsstand, and most of the time, he's just trying to by. He says he sleeps outdoors more often than indoors. So, John set up a GoFundMe account to help with Anthony's living expenses.

"While this is not a long term fix, our hope is this will give Anthony a chance to get a leg up to take care of himself down the road. We will also look into other resources that may be available to him as a vet," the GoFundMe page says.

Today, the newsstand looks brand new, and artist Peter Bucks is painting two murals on the stand.

The new and improved newsstand will be unveiled Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.

Splendid Soap Shop

I just found a wonderful little shop at Irving Park Rd and Mead (across from The Portage Theatre) called Distinct Bath and Body.
They sell handmade soap (made on site), bath salts, scrubs, face masks, shaving soaps, loofahs, etc.
Everything smells wonderful and the owner is friendly and attentive.
If you love artisinal bath products, you gotta check it out!

  • Forgot to mention axe throwing, Culver's and Binny's too. haha

In our home, the ceilings closest to the street where the work has been taking place are showing a substantial amount cracking since they started work in late October.

For those who aren't home during working hours, the work currently taking place requires a substantial amount of pounding that actually "shakes" your home from the bottom up.

I have contacted the Alderman's office as well as People's Gas directly about this, but wanted to spread the word to those who might be similarly affected and not even know it.

As new gas lines came in a few years back, I watched heavy equipment get driven over yards and sidewalks, damaging both. I pressed for replacement and they sent some jerkw@d who showed me lo-res photo captures he said came from video taken prior to the work. The images seemed to depict the new damage as pre-existing, with blurs or debris obscuring all detail, like they'd been messed with in Photoshop. I wasn't buyin it and said the coloring in the images looked weird, like before and after frames were put into one, the guy gave-up and marked the damaged sections for replacement.

XSport on Irving Park - Lock your doors!

Hey neighbors! My husband returned to his car after a workout to find a young man rummaging through the trunk of our car. The young man then got into an awaiting car and they drove off slowly. Yes, my husband called the police but he hasn't heard anything regarding filing a report, go figure.

  • My son has had 2 thefts at different XSport locations from the lockers... I think they are running their own theft ring myself... they don't give a rat about doing anything about it either... one was Lakeview and the other was either Portage or Norridge... I mean you have cameras, why are you not catching the scumbags doing this? Pathetic!

Apparently a world full of garbage doesn't bother some people. If they're driving, it's even easier. They drop it in someone else's neighborhood and don't have to look at it. Then it looks like WE are the ones who don't care.

Do you want to provide an outdoor kitty with a heated home during winter?

I bought this one on Amazon and we love it, the kitty loves it too. It was only about $45. There are so many feral cats in our area and they keep the rat population to a minimum for us so the least we can do is provide homes for some of them. If you have a covered outdoor area with an outlet you can plug this in, takes very minimal power to run. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ZJOH06/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 here is a picture of the kitty in my backyard enjoying her house.

Homeless Man On Six Corners

I haven't seen the homeless man that sits in the bus enclosure on Irving park near cicero for about 2 weeks now. He is the man that never begs and has been out there a few years now. Does anyone know what happen to him?

  • Kapel2 Neighborhood Resident

Thank you Lindsey for being so instrumental in helping Joe and so many other local homeless folks re-integrate into a more normal life. You are truly a blessing to the community! As time allows I will send you and/or Gayle a note as to how my wife and I came to know about Joe and we will be sending another card for him and making a donation to HTH ministries.

  • Kapel Local Resident

Hi Lindsey P L, I am getting ready to send a donation to HTH Ministries and was wondering if Joe is still in the nursing home and basically how he's doing. I will be sending a card for him with the donation if you guys still have contact with him.

Central and Waveland

There was a question asked in another thread about what the status is at the empty lot at Central and Waveland. There was a meeting at Chicago academy in the spring about a Alzheimer’s memory development to be built. Is this one going to stay vacant as long as the Belmont and Narragansett site?

  • Maggiemay 45 year resident @ PP

I'm surprised they haven't found any dead body in there yet. It's gonna turn into a dumping ground soon

  • This is another project just like the one at Belmont and Narragansett that just sits. It’s a shame there is no transparency with Villegas. Locking back it’s a good thing many residents got involved in stopping Villegas from pushing thru that section-8 housing development. Everyone should be Leary of what is going on with these 2 areas.

I live on 6100 block of West Byron. I was seeing a little gray/white kitty for a few weeks and wanted to try and rescue him if I could but haven't seem him now for over a week. I'm guessing he was born in the spring so he's still small but not tiny anymore. Just wondering if anyone on Berenice or Dakin or Grace have seen him? He was then also seen on 6300 block of West Warwick just this past Wednesday. They tried to coax him inside but the kitty ran away. It was also noticed at that time he had an eye injury so now I'm desperately wanting to find out where he might be so I can get help from cat rescue to try and trap him and get him off the streets soon!! Please, if anyone has seen him, please let me know. He looked similar to the cat in this photo but smaller and not sure of gray markings, he had more white hair I believe but I could never get close enough to know for sure. Thank you!

  • If it's a kitten you have a good chance to get it socialized. Can you get a trap from PAWS or animal cruelty? Thank you for trying to help Fabiola.Get in touch with Chicagoland Cat Rescue Discussion Group, maybe they can help.

  • Many, many blessings to all of you helping the animals!
