Koch Foods?

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in the area, but I noticed there's a large chicken processing plant nearby. It seems like this could be quite a nuisance and I had some questions for the neighborhood. Is the facility noisy at odd hours? Do they actually slaughter chickens there, or is it just processing? I'm worried about seeing or hearing truckloads of live birds. I'm out and about very early in the morning.

John, when you told me at St. John's you're glued to social media, you weren't kidding. It took you 18 minutes to respond the other day. If I knew, I would've waited. I try to visit EB once or twice a week. Its very stressful to have both an alderman and president addicted to the internet. I bet watching Trump is like looking in the mirror. Those residents by Koch had a lengthy list of complaints that you couldn't do anything about, so they turned to Laurino (and she's a lovely woman). I'd go get my notes and list all the violations but I feel like this is a setup. Someone joins EB, posts one question and responds once? Doesn't sound like she wants to be part of our EB family.

In short, it's a mess over there. The deliveries doubled after Arena became alderman (23K in campaign contributions) and a whole host of other things. I spoke to the residents and went to their community meeting. The poor souls had to turn to another alderman for help. They also don't even know they have a neighborhood association but I told them not to bother. This has nothing to do with Pamela although, Paula should have smelled the stench of rotting chicken or saw the blow flies if she walks by? How about the spill a year and a half ago?! They came out with hazmat suits. Does any of this ring a bell with my OIP neighbors? You two can stop by or go to one of their meetings, they're lovely people.

Lastly, someone said Koch Foods is arrogant on one of the above threads. They're even cockier now that they're allowed to break the law.

  • Can anyone speak to the smell during the summer? We are considering purchasing in the Terraces and wondering if the smell is still an issue. Since it’s winter and cold outside we haven’t been able to notice any smells, but am worried that changes in the summer! Thank you!

Fresh fruit delivery now available in our area - Imperfect Produce

We just signed up for this service so cant vouch for it yet but figured it was worth a shot. I know there are lots of people here who frequent the farmers markets and/or grow their own, so "imperfect" is probably not much of a concern.

^using referral link gets $10 off.

  • Chicago Tonight had a segment about this company. Several people in my neighborhood group on Facebook have used it and are satisfied with it.

It's a subscription service, so you have to order on a regular basis.

  • robin in WRP I support a 28th Amendment 4Free & Fair Elections!

I received my first box this week. I forgot to pick my items, but was not disappointed at all!! The quality was fantastic. We are getting a small fruit and vegetable box every other week, but may change to every week. affordable snow removal service/person?

hello neighbors!
We are a new business at the corner of Avondale and Pulaski and we are looking for a more affordable option for our snow removal. We're interested in a professional service for heavier snow falls (over one inch) and/or a local person who could just (perhaps with a snowblower?) take care of our sidewalks during light snowfalls. We've gotten lucky so far this year but there is still (purportedly) a lot of winter days left!

Thanks!

Catalytic Converter theft attempt

Hi Neighbors,
Just a heads up. I had an attempted theft of my catalytic converter over the weekend. I live on the 3900 block of Kedvale, and drive a 2012 Jeep Liberty. I am not sure if it happened overnight Saturday to Sunday (Jan 6th o Jan 7th) or Sunday to Monday (Jan 7th to Jan 8th) as I did not drive my car on...

Hi Neighbors,
Just a heads up. I had an attempted theft of my catalytic converter over the weekend. I live on the 3900 block of Kedvale, and drive a 2012 Jeep Liberty. My car was parked right out in front of my building on the same block. I am not sure if it happened overnight Saturday to Sunday (Jan 6th o Jan 7th) or Sunday to Monday (Jan 7th to Jan 8th) as I did not drive my car on Sunday. Monday morning however when I left for work the car sounded like truck, and was extremely loud when accelerating. I took it to Iggy's Muffler shop on Montrose and Harlem and was told that someone had cut through the front, and was half way through the back with they either gave up, or got spooked and left. Iggy's did great work and only charged me $50 to weld everything back together.

Not sure there is any way to prevent this from happening in the future, other than parking in well lit areas and everyone keeping a watchful eye. Unfortunately I do not have garage access which would be the best option.

Garbage disposal

In the summer I was told by the Aldermans office that if I have stuff other than routine garbage (rugs, couch, tables, mattress etc). I was told to give them a few days advance notice. When I recently called, they now say that this stuff is no longer picked up and I would have to hire a private company. Does anyone else have this problem? I took rugs out and I don't know what to do with them.

  • paul in jefferson jefferson park resident

Arena gave the right answer, thanks Katiie.

  • I took a little bit of everyone's advice. I called 311 and this morning they picked up the old carpeting. Thanks to everyone's input. Is great to be able to work with the community. .. May everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year's.

During the summer I called the Aldermans office regarding garbage other than what fits in the garbage containers. (Rugs, couch, tables etc). They told me to call a few days prior to pick up and they would let the city workers know.. FROM:http://wgntv.com/2017/11/15/chicago-police-officer-recruits-volunteers-to-help-veteran-renovate-his-newsstand/
CHICAGO -- For the past seven years, Air Force veteran Anthony Johnson has been selling newspapers out of a beaten up stand at the corner of Milwaukee and Faragutt. Chicago Police Lieutenant John Garrido connected with Anthony about a year ago and decided to give Anthony a better place to sell his newspapers.

Garrido posted a Facebook Live video asking for help. Volunteers stepped up, and they spent the last few weeks transforming this stand.

All of this was done with the help of local sponsors like Tony Marino of Marino Jeep. They took Johnson to the local Dick's Sporting Goods and bought Johnson all new winter attire to help him stay warm.

Johnson makes about $120 a week from his newsstand, and most of the time, he's just trying to by. He says he sleeps outdoors more often than indoors. So, John set up a GoFundMe account to help with Anthony's living expenses.

"While this is not a long term fix, our hope is this will give Anthony a chance to get a leg up to take care of himself down the road. We will also look into other resources that may be available to him as a vet," the GoFundMe page says.

Today, the newsstand looks brand new, and artist Peter Bucks is painting two murals on the stand.

The new and improved newsstand will be unveiled Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.

Looking for a garage spot for rent

Hey everyone, I just moved to the area by Milwaukee and Addison, so right on the boarder of OIP, by Schurz.
I was promised a garage spot by my landlord, but apparently another tenant has 3 spots in our 4-car garage.
If anyone has a garage spot they'd be willing to rent for my car, I'd be ever so grateful.
