Greetings My Neighbors!
Following an outstanding 2nd Annual MLK Day Dinner Northwest this last Monday, double the size of our Inaugural 2017 Dinner and with a whole bunch of new Northwest neighbors joining us, Unity in Community now turns its attention to our first supported activity of 2018: The Chicago Women's March to be held on Saturday, January 20. Kick-off is at 11 AM but with the crowds expected you've got to get down there much earlier. Men of all ages are entirely welcome to attend.
Unity in Community leader Nancy Kerstein will be carrying our Unity in Community Northwest Area - city and surburbs - banner during the march. Community members interested in going should let us know either via this post or email us at Jac.Charlier@gmail.com. We'll connect up as a Northwest grouping (if you are not attending with another group already). More info is here: http://womens121marchonchicago.org/
Unity in Community is a citizen-led initiative creating an open civic space in our Northwest Area for civil conversation and shared action about race, gender, and diversity. Want more info? Contact Jac Charlier at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are on Facebook too.

We heard 3 gunshots the other night Lavergne and Patterson and there was NOTHING in the news. The only place we saw it was on our ring video doorbell network. You can download the app and get neighborhood notifications (you don't have to have the doorbell) and see video footage from your neighbors. It's a good way to know what's happening close to you.
Some of the neighbors have found this helpful, and wanted to pass it on.

I'm interested in the area, but I noticed there's a large chicken processing plant nearby. It seems like this could be quite a nuisance and I had some questions for the neighborhood. Is the facility noisy at odd hours? Do they actually slaughter chickens there, or is it just processing? I'm worried about seeing or hearing truckloads of live birds. I'm out and about very early in the morning.
