Screaming guy by Irving and Pulaski

I know this will seem a bit... nuts.

Frequently, I hear some guy screaming nonsense in the middle of the day right near this intersection. I've SEEN him doing it a couple times too. Screaming at nobody. Perhaps has a medical condition. Either way, has anyone else seen him? I really wonder if he screams inside his apartment building which is near me as well.

  • We could be discussing a gentleman I take the train with in the morning pretty regularly. Tourettes is a mental illness his behaviours suggest to someone like me (no training just a dilettante interested in mental illness) that that is what he has . The behaviours, the "tics" are startling...

We could be discussing a gentleman I take the train with in the morning pretty regularly. Tourettes is a mental illness his behaviours suggest to someone like me (no training just a dilettante interested in mental illness) that that is what he has . The behaviours, the "tics" are startling to someone like me who doesn't deal with shouting well, but it's 100% obvious it's involuntary. You can even tell when he's trying to control it a bit more and when he's not. (he is way louder and more consistent under the overpass than when standing on the platform) He is 100% aware of the issue of course and I've noticed some compensating behaviors, for example he'll let a super crowded train pass by and catch the next. I believe he is employed somewhere as I see him at the same time just about every morning....which is awesome and gives me something to think about...where would one employ someone who is otherwise completely normal but could be distracting in certain locations (say, a library). I have seen people be crazy rude to him. I saw a young man mime kicking him off the platform after he passed (I was behind him) and I gave him (the young man) as withering a look as I can...I might have called him a dick...I'm not sure. I also heard a man yell at him after he had a tic on the train and I caught that guys eye and said "he can't stop that, what's your excuse?" Of course it's possible the second man had some kind of mental illness as well but I am as capable as anyone else of making that mistake.

  • I’ve seen the screaming guy often near the Irving Park Blue line station several times. The guy I’m talking about is unmistakable...not distracting only in certain locations. He is clearly mentally ill and screams at the top of his lungs; I can hear him from a few blocks away. He is saying something but I have no idea what. He is so loud that I always think that he must have a sore throat from the screaming.

No unity here--the so called "women's march" is for a those who can't accept the results of the democratic presidential election in Nov 2016. Last year's version featured spoiled brat celebrities who openly discussed assassinating the president who later went on to reveal the men in the entertainment industry who behaved totally sexually inappropriately, all of whom voted for the wife of a man who behaved totally sexually inappropriately. And said wife covered up for him, enabled him.
But this is a free country and you're entitled to act the fool. I will spend my week end more productively, celebrating the one year anniversary of a presidential inauguration which has brought new prosperity and new hope to the nation--especially to people outside the media bubble.

Koch Foods?

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in the area, but I noticed there's a large chicken processing plant nearby. It seems like this could be quite a nuisance and I had some questions for the neighborhood. Is the facility noisy at odd hours? Do they actually slaughter chickens there, or is it just processing? I'm worried about seeing or hearing truckloads of live birds. I'm out and about very early in the morning.

  • Can anyone speak to the smell during the summer? We are considering purchasing in the Terraces and wondering if the smell is still an issue. Since it’s winter and cold outside we haven’t been able to notice any smells, but am worried that changes in the summer! Thank you!

  • I never had an issue with smell there, lived nearby and drove by a lot. As the alderman said, they don’t have live chickens there. You can sometimes smell the commerical bakery on Kolmar which is nice!

Want to know more about this national holiday? Keep reading.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent
question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Against what seemed like
impossible odds, Dr. King and scores of his fellow citizens of all races came
together and, ultimately, helped bend the moral arc of the universe toward
justice. In recognition of Dr. King’s incredible legacy of service to all, Congress
designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of
service in 1994, and charged the Corporation for National and Community
Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Today's commemoration of the MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 15 is an opportunity to remember that history. It is also a time to consider how much work still remains to fulfill Dr. King’s dream.

Drivers Chucking Objects At Your Car After You Honk At Them For Safety Reasons

It is very dumb, dangerous, and traumatizing.

I can't help but wonder ever what the other person is thinking.... especially since they usually have another person in the car watching them throw a temper tantrum baicslly...when they were in the wrong...

affordable snow removal service/person?

hello neighbors!
We are a new business at the corner of Avondale and Pulaski and we are looking for a more affordable option for our snow removal. We're interested in a professional service for heavier snow falls (over one inch) and/or a local person who could just (perhaps with a snowblower?) take care of our sidewalks during light snowfalls. We've gotten lucky so far this year but there is still (purportedly) a lot of winter days left!

Thanks!

I wish I had a better answer for you, but unfortunately there are a variety of issues to work through at the Montrose spot that continue to put timing and planning up in the air. It is a wonderful spot and a wonderful neighborhood which we are really hoping to make work - but some thing are simply out of our control. Keep checking back with us and hopefully we'll know more soon!

That's too bad, ya' know I always wanted to open up a nice restaurant & bar. That building would a make a good dirty neighborhood strip club with a nasty lunch buffet. Maybe put some of those slot machines in the back and patrons can also bet on the ponies with an OTB. Forget about all those fancy microbrews, only Schlitz or Old Style for a buck and a quarter each. It will be the classiest establishment on the NW side. Call it "Deplorables"

I am not sure if it happened overnight Saturday to Sunday (Jan 6th o Jan 7th) or Sunday to Monday (Jan 7th to Jan 8th) as I did not drive my car on Sunday. Monday morning however when I left for work the car sounded like truck, and was extremely loud when accelerating. I took it to Iggy's Muffler shop on Montrose and Harlem and was told that someone had cut through the front, and was half way through the back with they either gave up, or got spooked and left. Iggy's did great work and only charged me $50 to weld everything back together.

Not sure there is any way to prevent this from happening in the future, other than parking in well lit areas and everyone keeping a watchful eye. Unfortunately I do not have garage access which would be the best option.

Appealing Property Taxes

I wondering if anyone has appealed their property taxes on they're own. I'm currently using a lawyer for the process. I understand that the value of my house is determined by the "Fair Market Value" but who / how is that determined? When comparing my place to similar on my block - lot size, two flat, some brick ( mine is frame) they are all valued less and paying less taxes. And they are claiming the Homeowners Exemption also or none at all. How would I go about getting the value of my place corrected?

  • Of course, you should only appeal if your assessed value goes up.

Hello. Did anyone witness a car crash at 3818 N. Kimball Avenue at 11:00am on 12/28/17? My car was parked there and there was a hit and run. So, this is just a venting post because I am so angry. Two nights ago my outdoor/indoor cat didn't come home. Last night I get a call that someone found my cat because he is chipped so they were able to trace the owner. This lady lives a block away from me so my cat was not that far away from home. I called the lady who had him and I found out that she traps stray cats and takes them to PAWS to get them vaccinated,neutered/ spayed and their ears clipped. My poor little kitty fell into one of her traps. She tells me that she had seen my cat before and that she thought he was friendly but yet she proceeded to take him in to PAWs to get an unnecessary procedure done. My question is how does that happen that my cat being chipped and fixed is still put under sedation and has part of his ear cut off? All this happen within 12 hours. Why couldn't they at least wait 24 hours until till they got ahold of me before they mutilated him? I called PAWs explained what happened and said that a manager could explain to me how the process goes when they have a cat who someone assumes is feral and the manager hasn't called me back. The lady didn't even seem sorry that all this happened to my poor little kitty. Now I have A 10, a 5 year old and a 3 year old who are crying because their little cat is missing part of an ear. I am so mad at this lady for not having the decency to at least wait until the chip had been checked. It looks like she takes great joy in capturing these little cats and having them mutilated. I understand there are many feral cats and we would like them all to be vaccinated and stuff but my cat has a chip that was able to be traced to me so I don't know how they figured he did not have an owner? He will forever be thought of as a feral cat and I'm afraid what might happen if he decides he wants to try going out again. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening again to someone else since that this lady feel she's the cat trapping expert?

  • Yes Spam I'm aware of the ordinances.. Have been for a long long time, way before every block came into existence. Theres an ordinance/code for everything out there it seems.

  • One of my neighbors cats has the name and address on a collar tag. I'm going to visit because his cat attacks and beats up on my feral while playing in my yard. Very frustrating 😡

Dog barking outside at 3:30am!

This dog has been barking for over an hour at 3:30am. I can’t believe that it wants to be outside in the cold. Who does that to their pet? I’m on the 4200 block of mozart. I can hear it all the way here. Poor thing. I wish the owners would let him in.

  • If it continues and/or you somehow figure out it could possibly be animal abuse or you just want a well-being check done, you can call Anti-Cruelty Society and someone will go check on the dog - you don't have to give them your name. I had to do it years ago and you can do it online on their website as well.

  • I don’t know if it is a common occurance because I just happen to wake up at 3:30am & could not go back to sleep. The barking was far and not my neighbors- maybe a block away. I just wanted to put the word out that if the actual neighbors...

I don’t know if it is a common occurance because I just happen to wake up at 3:30am & could not go back to sleep. The barking was far and not my neighbors- maybe a block away. I just wanted to put the word out that if the actual neighbors of people with dogs would stand up for the poor animals when they recognize somethings are not right - it’s cold out and that Dog was letting its owner know it wanted to come inside. Plus- how could the actual neighbors sleep through that barking? It is freezing at night. I just wish I could know who it was to report them.

Greetings My Neighbors!

Just got this urgent appeal from a sister American Legion Post. I'm asking you to contribute by Wednesday, December 20 to the 2017 Toys-for-Tots Drive, The Drive is short 10,000 toys in two age groups: GIRLS Ages 10 to 13 and BOYS Ages 10 to 13. Toys received by this Wednesday are able to be delivered on time by USMC 2/24 (2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment).

Toys should be new, in the original packaging, and unwrapped. Please – no stuffed animals.

Here’s two ways you can easily contribute:

1) Drop off toys at any IHOPS in Cook County. For our NW area, here are the nearby locations:

IHOP NORRIDGE, 7056 West Forest Preserve Drive, NORRIDGE, IL 60706

IHOP CHICAGO, 5929 N Lincoln Ave, CHICAGO, IL 60659

For other IHOPS, please log onto: http://www.ihop.com/ihop-locations.

2) Donate online to Toys for Tots:
http://chicago-il.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/local-donate.aspx

Your donated dollars will go a LONG way because the Marines have special buying agreements (big discounts) with the toy stores with NO shipping and NO sales tax! (Toys for Tots is an registered 501c3 charity. So your dollars are also tax deductible).

97% of your donation goes to providing toys, books and other gifts to less fortunate children. 3% is spent on support - principally covering fundraising expenses. Not one donated dollar goes to pay for salaries or any other manpower costs.

Questions? Please contact me at jac.charlier@gmail.com or via Nextdoor or just around the neighborhood.

Folks, we can do this...together. Thank you, in advance!
