Samantha Fish turns from blues to roots rock, and vice versa

Wed 1/31, 8 PM, Lincoln Hall, 2424 N. Lincoln, $25, $20 in advance

Samantha Fish turns from blues to roots rock, and vice versa
In the past, eclectic roots exploration with a beat was the purview of rootsy rock acts like Rod Stewart or the Band. More recently, the torch has been picked up by blues acts. Valerie June's last couple of albums-including last year's excellent The Order of Time-mix roots traditions and swagger into a boiling stew worthy of the Rolling Stones or Dylan.

Sandy, most Spaniards find that tradition repulsive and shameful. They don't want to be associated with it and slowly but surely it'll be banned nationally. It's a matter of when, not if. There is a recalcitrant (yet small) cross section of the population that unfortunately supports it, the same ones who didn't have a problem supporting other shameful yet formerly legal practices that I would rather not mention. It's unacceptable. Spain has recently changed other contemptible laws. It's a matter of time at this point in history. The EU cut subsidies to fund such an abomination. What an unpresentable tradition. An embarrassment.

Just read some of this thread. Steve sounds like your the only one impressed with yourself. Whats the big deal about an Eve of the Eve party at Merch Mart that anybody could drop $160 for. It's not some exclusive shindig that's by invitation only. You can see Maggie Speaks at any of the numerous summer fest's all over the city ( but not downtown!! ) every summer for free. I don't think anybody at the party was all that impressed with you either Steve or you wouldn't be spending your time on EveryBlock with all us dumb paupers. Poor Steve. Too smart and rich for everyone.

  • Correction: he is neither.
