Chris Kennedy got it right: people of color are being pushed out of Chicago intentionally

Want to get specific? Let's go back to the area around North and Clybourn. In 1981, it was dominated by Cabrini-Green, a public housing project with roughly 30,000 low- income residents, most of them black.

But wait, there's more. To the west of Halsted and Division is an old industrial area that's one of the hottest real estate markets in...

When I moved to Chicago in 1981, the community around the intersection of Clybourn and Division on the north side was overwhelmingly poor and African-American. Now, of course, it's one of the richest and whitest corners of town.

Craft beer, retail, finance among industry that will benefit from new tax law

A worker pours a glass of Wari on Nov. 8 at Off Color Brewing's The Mousetrap taproom, 1460 N. Kingsbury St. Craft brewers are among the industries that stand to benefit from the new tax law President Donald Trump signed Friday.

Craft beer, retail, finance among industry that will benefit from new tax law
Craft breweries are raising a glass to the Republicans' new tax overhaul: It cuts the excise tax on beer. Retailers, long saddled with heavy tax bills, will get relief. So will some high-profile names in corporate finance, led by Wells Fargo.

AMA Report on LED lighting and the dangers of blue-rich light

I wanted to make my neighbors aware of American Medical Association's stance on LED streetlights. I know the city is planning on going with 3,000K streetlights but that is the upper limit of safety set by the AMA.

The AMA's press-release reads in part, "The AMA encourages communities to minimize and control blue-rich environmental lighting by using the lowest emission of blue light possible..."

Much lower temps than what the city has planned are now available, efficient and affordable. They have drastically less blue-content, are easier on the eye, melatonin cycles etc. Please read this press release and consider for yourself:

https://www.ama-assn.org/ama-adopts-guidance-reduce-harm-high-intensity-street-lights

  • And no mention of the comments on my petitions. The migraines that are induced, the near-misses caused by blinding light, the older drivers who have given up going out at night. The thousands who took the time to sign because these lights are ruining their lives.

  • Like I said. Good luck with your petition. I hope you get enough signature so that I can see the change in my lifetime. But I highly doubt it.
