We Support Our Uptown Starbucks on Broadway

Please read and sign if you agree. Starbucks and their employees deserve better in the wake of that terrible crime they had no part of. The completely unsubstantiated claims of "tolerating crime" are beyond the pale and unprecedented.

At the time of this posting approx. 670 of your neighbors have signed, read the comments made by actual patrons in their own name, in their own words.

Most of the employees of this Starbucks live in Uptown and are a solid part of our community, they need to be supported and shown love in the wake of a traumatic incident, not scapegoated. The petion will be delivered to the Alderman.

Thank You.

Jeffrey Littleton Arrested

This man was arrested for committing battery against a senior citizen engaging in positive loitering on November 3rd. Court date is set for Dec. 15. Stay tuned for more details. Residents concerned about public safety are encouraged to attend this hearing.

  • Mamma Mia, This Thread is like one big old you're going to go have to do some community service or jail or something worse thread. Christ he's not even smart enough to shut the hell up before his hearing is he? I suppose I should be thankful because anything he says or does online that can be shown to a judge only works against him. Lithium much?

In regards to "the incident"

Uptown EB has been hijacked by people with an axe to grind against me. That is unfair to the greater readership who may or may not care. Of those who care, who are fair, deserve some explanation.

Until it is resolved there is little I can say. But when it is resolved I will release on the Sheridan Park Neighbors Page and other media outlets every detail. I will share every tape, every transcript...everything.

You will see then and only then. I embarrassed the Alderman. Yes I did. An argument could be made that it wasn't me who embarrassed the Alderman (Cappleman of course) but the Alderman himself for attacking Starbucks. The absurdity has not been lost on many so it seems. Whose fault is that?

But tell that to James Cappleman, his husband Richard Thale, and his excitable "team", I was harrassed on the street.

All the facts will be shared, by me in due time, I promise. You will see then what happened. In the meantime trolls are going to troll, to spin, the more they spin the more vindicated I will be. I have a perfectly clean record for a reason, I am peaceful, I am the peace garden artist, your artist Uptown.

In the meantime I cannot apologize for the incessant trolling its beyond my control these are adults, if it bothers you just report it, its all that can be done. I have been bullied in Uptown before, I was a skinny kid it happened all the time, I have been attacked, stabbed, shot at, beat up, I can handle it.

I am proud to have started the petition, to have given the people a voice to show love and support for the employees of Starbucks, my friends, our neighbors. I am proud of the people of the Uptown, well most of them. Thank you for the messages of love and support.

All will be shared. With Love,

Jeffrey Littleton

  • Hilarious, and I literally just spit up my morning coffee reading this. Not nice? Actually hilarious. Thank you for the comedy relief and I look forward to the incarceration of the aforementioned felon.

According to neighborhood blog CWBChicago.com, the first robbery happened around 7:30 p.m. near West Buena and North Clarendon avenues. The victim said four males attacked him and ran east, toward Marine Drive.

Right after that, another man was reportedly beaten up and robbed in the 700-block of West Bittersweet Place.

Minutes later, the group reportedly beat a 50-year-old man to the ground, but he was not robbed. The attackers ran north on Clarendon. The victim was treated at a hospital.

The blog said there is surveillance video of one of the violent attacks. The robbers appear to be between 15-18 years old.

Still Waiting For Decision On Lincoln Towing...
The Tribune ran an editorial over the weekend wondering why the ICC has been taking so long to make a decision about Lincoln Towing's future. It pointed out that it's been "almost two years since the Illinois Commerce Commission began a hearing process to determine whether Lincoln Towing - a magnet for complaints from motorists who say their cars were wrongfully towed - should have its license suspended or revoked."

  • I can't wait for this Treasure Island to open. It will be a nice addition to Mariano's & Jewel. It supposed to open next year some time.

  • Treasure Island is cool. But no setbacks at all. It's like a wall towering over Clarendon. Bad design that could have been avoided. It's like the building going up at the south end of Broadway by Sheridan. Goes right up to a narrow sidewalk. Everywhere you look it is concrete and signs down there.

There are crime posts on here all the time about attacks and assaults in the neighborhood. Somehow these posts can't stay up? I know that the person involved is a prominent and frequent poster here (initials JL), but that shouldnt excuse that person or create a situation where that poster can sanitize what he did on a public street. Especially when the information is in the public record.

I just don't get it. I moved here three years ago and am sick that someone can assault and threaten a neighbor without anyone in the neighborhood knowing.

Confused - and in denial? Seriously?

Jim - obviously we don't know each other, and other than this misplaced tirade, you sound like a reasonable guy. However, I think in your zealousness about the subject matter - and with the personally demeaning comments you've directed at me, you both illustrated and missed the bigger point I was making, which has nothing whatsoever to do with debating the 'seriousness' of Mr.Littleton's alleged acts of 'violence.'

It's now been made exhaustively clear on EB that Mr. Littleton has been accused of assault/battery. You suggested there's more to the story, which you apparently feel everyone should know, even though the vast majority of us have no 'real world' interaction with Mr. Littleton. You then posit that if I read EB regularly - ' as I claim, ' I should be acquainted with Littleton's character issues. Well, maybe we don't read the same threads. While I've seen him post from time to time, I haven't 'followed' him, or previously heard anything that signaled he was 'dangerous.'

If you really believe Mr. Littleton is a menace and feel compelled to warn others, I think you've done a good job.

  • Nan - I appreciate your detailed response as above.

However, I don't see what personally demeaning comments I have directed towards you.

However, I don't see what personally demeaning comments I have directed towards you.
But instead of going back and forth over that particular aspect, I am willing to apologize to you and bury the hatchet along with it, by adding that there was NO personal attack, INTENDED, towards you.
    -------------------------------------
In your initial post to which I had responded to, the language felt like, you wanted to give that "Particular Person", a Free Pass , in spite of what he had done and were making light about the "Seriousness" of the Act of Violence, which was committed.

The Fixation with this "Particular Person" is because most of us know, that over a period of time, this "Particular Person", has been a Big Bully and Continually Cows Down people, who did not/ do not agree with him.

So, after this "Incident" took place, we decided that Enough was Enough, have closed ranks and are giving this "Particular Person", a taste of his own medicine, by calling him out.

Hopefully, common sense prevails AND he gets the message, that he is not going to be allowed to push people and throw his weight around AND he starts behaving nice.

Thank you and have a nice evening.

I like Dick Johnson, a seasoned pro, it seemed odd to find him and crew all alone on the corner at Lawrence and Broadway but there he was. We chatted about Uptown, the Starbucks, The Alderman, general background stuff no biggie.

He guesstimates the total attendence, not including 8-12 police coming and going at 20 people...uncluding the Alderman and his husband Richard Thale a CAPS facilitator who helped organize this.

They left early before the crew could wrap up, not sure why the weather was'nt so bad at all.

Attached is the event flyer...link is to photo of the vibrant scene of a non-loitering event? Not sure what to call an event with just one guy asking whats going on?

NBC 5 is however interested in the petition supporting Starbucks and their employees. If 20 people going home early is worth 2 crews then 1200 deseves a look, the petition is getting noticed from Uptown to Downtown.

Blair Kamin, the architecture critic for the Tribune, likes what he sees in the new Wilson station and the ongoing rehab of the Gerber Building: "Airy, spacious and wisely preserving a piece of the past even as it anticipates the future, the CTA's new Wilson Avenue elevated station reveals that the agency's big upcoming modernization of the Red and Purple Lines is on the right track.

Fall Back And Enjoy The Extra Hour Tonight

Earlier dawns, and earlier darkness in the evenings.

Fall Back And Enjoy The Extra Hour Tonight
Earlier dawns, and earlier darkness in the evenings. Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday at 2am, and we go back to "real time," at least for a few months. Set your clocks back an hour tonight and gain an extra hour.

Another Mural Brightens Uptown

Here, fishie, fishie! The north side of the Montrose viaduct under Lake Shore Drive was recently brightened by muralist Tony Passero, the same artist who this summer revived the Bezazian Branch Library mural.  He has also done commissioned art for Major League Baseball and the Chicago Police Department.

Tony is a cool dude and great artist. He does most of his workpublic art commissions through Arts Alive, former Arts Alive 45, an organization that got it's start in the 45th ward, organized by the wife of the Alderman.

The organization has been so successful in thier community it began to organize public art in other communities and reach out to other artists including yours truly.

    Meanwhile...

Ald. Cappleman has yet to organize his first project, worth mentioning? I have completed 4 public art projects in the community during hos tenure, the Alderman has squashed 2.

I have stayed busy, I let the people know because the Alderman doesn't do the public any favors being such a wet blanket on public art in the community.

Bumping because Tony is a cool dude and his art is getting buried by troll posts.

Rubloff Reborn

New and restored pieces of terra cotta are being resintalled on the Rubloff Building (photo by JM)

    Rubloff Reborn
Hard to believe these are the same pieces of terra cotta that once covered the Rubloff/Majestic Building at Broadway and Leland. Years of grime and neglect had taken their toll but you wouldn't know that now judging by the looks of things.
