New dog walker safety signs - Thanks

This morning while walking our dog in Oriole Park, I noticed some new signage

I was surprised and pleased that the two signs dealt with continuing problem of
owners not keeping their dogs leashed while using the park.

Early in Oct. , our dog & I were attacked by an unleashed dog. We raised our
concerns with the park district, the alderman & the police. Last week we attended
a police CAPS meeting that had this issue on the agenda.

Hopefully, the appearance of the new signs, is a result of the issue being taken
seriously. Thanks to those responsible !! Hope that our neighbors & fellow dog
owners will do the same.

People who don't leash their dogs if caught should be put in a cage along with their dog and a pit bull!

  • PennyPenguin Chillin' out on EB

That is excessive force and is frowned upon.

    Why is it excessive?

I want to alert users of Oriole Park that our small poodle mix dog and I, were

Tuesday October 3 at around 11:15AM.

The owner was playing ball toss & return with his dog. We were nearby along
the walkway when suddenly the dog made a beeline straight for our dog and
myself.I tried to pick our dog up but the big dog was on us in seconds and had
our dogs back end in his mouth. During the struggle the dog also bit me on the
left leg. It only released our dog when the owner came over and smacked his
dog with the ball tosser. Both our dog and I needed medical attention.

Such incidents can be completely avoided if dog owners, especially of large
breeds, would obey the posted law by keeping their dogs on leashes while in
the park. Nearby forests preserves are more appropriate for exercising their
dogs.

Also as a dog walker for the last 12 years and lots of experience with dogs who bite..it was my understanding the idea that someone can force the euthanasia of a dog was untrue. I was told when I volunteered for animal control they could force an owner to buy an insurance policy. Have a 6 ft fence and muzzle the dog. Have laws changed?

Also I have been arrested for assault w a deadly weapon when a woman in my building did not like me using OUR backyard with my dog. She lied and said I "sicked" my leashed dog on her. She even said the dog was leashed! And I was still arrested. So I'm not sure about her saying her dog would attack your dog but apparently if you did that to a person that is assault. And can be arrested for that.

We are encountering that situation now. It has been a week since the bite incident. A police officer came by the house that day and appeared to be filling out "the green card" bite report. I have spoken with staff at Animal care & Control twice. They say that they have not received any report for our incident.

I'm not sure how to proceed. Can we try to have a proper report filed now ?
Looking back, it might have been better to have the hospital emergency room staff
do the filing of the report.
