Why is Dibs a thing ?

Why is it so that is now an unwritten rule that people can put their furniture to reserve public property ? We all know that we can't all do that, and it's always the same people, the folks that feel like they are entitled to things. We got like 1 foot of snow, nobody has shoveled the street, all the spots are their due to cars that were there during the snowfall, yet immediately 5-6 spots had furniture on them....

It amazes me that some people think that only because they put a chair on the street I will park a block away from my house when I get back from work. This might've been an OK practice back in the day when most people had decent values, but nowadays you only get the douche-bags in society abuse these thoughtless, unwritten rules.
I don't understand why the city can't start enforcing the actual regulations and toss furniture off public property and issue litter tickets to people that won't comply.
And yes, I can kinda understand it if we got the same blizzard as several years ago, but for 1 foot of snow...seriously ? Just park like the rest of your neighbors and if you have to shovel for 5 min - big deal...

Can letter carriers read?

I have been so fed up with the mail being delivered when there is no one at the address!
The name is on the box, I’ve called and complained at the Lincolwood branch, I even approached the carrier and told them but I still keep getting them!
Never had I had this problem until they did their rotation. Don’t know who to complain to anymore, just have to get aggravated and complete the job they are suppose to do by either delivering to the correct address or walking to the box which is three blocks away.
Wonder if I can get compensated?
Just needed to vent, thanks for reading.

  • GoHawks! Life Long Resident

By law and per the US post office the mail carrier must deliver the mail. You need to inform the folks sending it if you no longer want to receive. Maybe you could just recycle the paper and move on.

  • Mail is delivered by the address, NOT by the name. If the address is yours, even if the name is wrong, they HAVE to put it in your mailbox by law.

Sewer back-up & basement drain flooding

We are experiencing a basement drain flooding and sewer back up for a couple of days now. A plumber came to rode the pipes and pumped the backed up dirty water, but they can't get their rodding snake to get to the street - something is blocking it.
We wonder if this might be caused by the recent street utility work - some pipes work and some Poeple's Gas work.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? We are the condo building on Gunnison and Kenneth's corner.

  • good advice from John, I'd follow it

  • Chandra Lynn Dagley Pre-Medicine Chaser From AP

Dead of winter last year, I want to say. I am on Avers. All good suggestion above me, we had someone come out with a camera, and it was a multifocal problem, because the neighbor (small bungalow) also had issues. Drain tiles were indeed a problem., and they are right about where city problem ends and ours began and some issues within the building where the landlords replaced some old pipe.

Recycling gone?

Has anyone noticed our recycling bins not being picked up in the last month?

I've seen our Streets ans Sanitation crew, collecting the regular bins, yet every time they come, no recycling is ever picked up.

I had called Laurino's office an submitted a report, but wonder if this is a widespread issue.

  • We had this problem last year around the holidays. I too called Laurino's office. They said they'd call them, but also gave me this number to call: Waste Management (630) 652-9241. Hope this helps!

  • Friday, 5 January recycling truck just made a pickup by me
