Found: Young gray cat with fluffy tail and white flea collar

Found a sweet gray cat with a fluffy tail. Young and small--very sweet and friendly and feeling lost. She's wearing a white flea collar. She followed my boyfriend home. He found her on Monticello (near Cullom).

  • He might belong to someone living in the red brick apartment building on the southwest corner of cullom and central park. The cat looks familiar to me as one that is allowed to free-roam... Maybe post a photo there...

  • Hi all--

I've filed a report with HeLP and posted to Lost Cats Illinois, but they haven't approved it yet. I've also posted on Craigslist and called local shelters. I'm printing flyers at work to put up. Hoping to leave work early to take to the vet for a scan and SNAP test (we have two cats, but am keeping them completely separate for now).

Thank you for the suggestions and please ask your neighbors!

Saturday Apartment Search

A friend has a job interview this Friday that might mean he could be looking for an apartment Saturday but he is unsure of his schedule. Do you know landlords or apartment brokers that take walk-ins on Saturdays?

  • My new landlord probably would. Call 773.507.9668. They have several buildings in Rogers Park and Edgewater. They may all be 2 bedroom though.

  • You can also try my landlord. He has an apartment available.
You can text or call him at 773-510-2271. His name is John.

Seeking parking space

Hello neighbors, does anyone know how I can find out about parking spaces available for rent in the Margare Terrace section of Uptown? I live on Carmen and it's particularly hard to find street parking. I would be willing to pay someone to rent their spot.

Gently Used Medical Supplies - Where to Donate?

Hello, neighbors! I am currently recovering from surgery and had to purchase a few items to make life manageable that I'd like to donate or sell in December when I *hopefully* no longer need them. I will have the following, all gently used:

1 pair of crutches (for heights 5'2" - 5'10")
1 cam walker boot with air pump (size adult small)
1 mobility knee scooter
1 shower chair
1 shoe lift (women's small, sizes 5.5-8)

I've heard that some physical therapy offices will take these and donate them to countries in need, but I'd also love to help local folks if possible. I've checked places like ALS association, Shriners, and other organizations that don't accept these items.

Does anyone know of a local nonprofit that can use these items? If not I still plan on asking my physical therapist if they can donate them.

Thanks!

You could try the "Old Irving Park Community Clinic" on Addison just east of Central. They are the only "free" clinic on the north side of Chicago that charges nothing for their services or supplies and doesn't get any government or insurance payments. They are also in need of medical and non-medical volunteers.

Dog passed away in my alley

I was coming back from work and saw a dog who had passed away laying in the alley this morning between Monticello and central park, south of Leland . Looked like a terrier or beagle mix. Had nothing on me to move the dog. So i went home to get a blanket, went back and the dog was gone. Looked in the garbages and didn't see it. Anyone know any thing?

Very odd encouter tonight around 8pm with two rather LARGE racoons acting like gansters(wish i was kidding). One climbed out of tree on the South side of farragut and went into someones front yard bushes so me and my dog crossed the street to avoid the thug(he did stare us down). Smart right, or so i thought. As im walking and watching the south side of street, i hear a scrambling of claws on bark directly in front and to the left of me and watched in horror as his bigger and badder partner in crime LANDED RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY DOG on the sidewalk. I sceamed(Im a soprano screamer so glass was breaking somewhere), yanked my dog hard back towards me and watched as this bandit hopped in the air in fear(i think my scream scared him off his plan to eat my dog) and he bolted across the street to meet up with his cohort. At that point i wasn't sure how many more there might be so i yelled my dogs name and said RUN!! We took off like lighting(well at a fast trot), but my dog kept checking behind us to be sure we weren't being followed.....in all seriousness....WATCH OUT. This really happened, and a smaller dog could have been seriously harmed. Please spread the word. DESCRIPTION: Grey body fur, black stripes, black mask around beedy eyes, fat, sharp claws, working in tandem, north and south sides of west farragut, 2100 block(alley going West to Levitt).

  • LP in Lincoln Square.....couldn't agree more!

  • There's a huge raccoon that often chills on the stoop of a building on Argyle and Bell. He's a scowler too. I have not seen him in several months.

Suspicious Mini Cooper

Just saw a Mini Cooper driving down Sunnyside, then up Hoyne, shining a very bright light at the back of random parked cars. Any idea why someone would do this?

  • I'm at Argyle and Leavitt, so in the general vicinity and I know there was a lost dog in the neighborhood last night. They may have been looking for him under cars.

  • Very plausible. I did the same thing several years ago when a neighbor's dog went missing.

So this is a warning to small pet owners as myself to be careful in this area if walking at night...do not take your eyes off your small pets or let loose if in this area!

Parking in Albany Park

My wife and I recently purchased a home in Albany Park that has two gravel parking spots in addition to a garage. We'd like to rent out the gravel spots as we don't need them, but we're unsure as to how to go about doing this. Do people typically use a contract for this? How much do spots go for in the area (an internet search didn't turn up any comps)? Any advice folks may have would be appreciated.

  • Hello, I am looking for parking at Kimball and Lawrence. Please let me know if you know of any space.

  • KEM Albany Park

Dog wandering in neighborhood

Dog - found but not able to catch, or see the tag of a dog that has been wandering around my neighborhood, I think the last few days it has been around barking. It is lighter brown short hair, medium to strong build, upright ears that flop over, maybe part boxer. Has a collar - cubs or sox insignia on it. If you are missing this dog, it is around my neighborhood, 4500, 4400 block of Monticello and Central Park. I was unable to approach the dog which was barking continuously.

Lost Prescription Glasses -

Hi,

Dropped my pair of prescription RL glasses, thinking while walking the gardens of East Ravenswood, between Balmoral and Berwyn, next to the Metra tracks, but also walking home under the tunnel on Berwyn.

If found, please contact: 630. 309. 7467.

Thanks!

I think I saw a sign on Ravenswood this morning for found sunglasses. Sign was somewhere between Winnemac and Lawrence or on Lawrence between the corner and Dunkin...maybe be worth checking out. Good luck

are alleys included in buffer zones?

My condo unit sits on the intersection of 2 alleys, one of which is perpendicular to a zoned street. Is this considered part of the buffer zone?

  • There is actually a buffer zone map somewhere on the city of Chicago website. I think there's also a place where you can enter your address to see if you are in a buffer zone. If you are not, then it's possible that your alderman can write you a letter that you can use to get a permit, if you have a good reason.
