When the owners of Tizi Melloul opened the original Pork Shoppe eight years ago at 2755 W. Belmont Avenue, they had a commitment to serve ethically raised meats. They sourced their meats from Slagel Family Farms. Tizi Melloul was a Moroccan restaurant that lasted nine years in River North.

Andersonville Barbecue Spot Pork Shoppe Shutters After Two-Plus Years
Sad news for barbecue fans. After almost two and a half years in Andersonville, Pork Shoppe has unexpectedly closed. The restaurant's telephone is disconnected and there's a sign taped to the entrance reading "closed 4 good" - complete with a frowny face - at 5721 N. Clark Street.

  • They really weren't really that good. It would be nice to have a barbecue place that actually put the barbecue on the grill instead of smoking it all the time. Im not sure why the restaurant is closing but there is always room for improvement.

  • This is so sad. Crime is notorious along the Sheridan Road high-rises in Edgewater.

  • Lol! Rob you are like a Monty Python charector the way you stand guard and jump out to defend your small crew. Good for you! But you shouldn't encourage "Live". He's been doing so well and has been treading lightly. He's been choosing his words carefully and his comments have been pretty tame lately. Let's keep it that way.

Live, if you’re interested in knowing about Edgewater, you’re welcome to visit. It seems pretty clear that you haven’t spent any time here lately, especially not if you think there’s no difference between Edgewater and Uptown. Edgewater is packed with theater, fine dining, casual dining, neighborhood activities, families, public parks, community gathering space, and the arts.
You may visit only once however.

Both neighborhoods are pretty much the same in having decent recreational options. And there are perfectly good places to live in both neighborhoods. Apparently some think there's a big difference between Uptown and Edgewater. I think they both are nice neighborhoods with attractive amenities and the only real difference is their names. With respect to visitation rights Sarah, you are free to visit and enjoy Rogers Park any time you wish. We are an open, welcoming and inclusive neighborhood.

This year we cut the ribbon on two exciting park projects: a brand new playground at Senn Park (Elmdale and Greenview) and a new dog park along the Lakefront Trail at Bryn Mawr. Both of these projects would not have been possible without the support and involvement of community members.

Gallery 1070 (1070 W. Granville) is a new arts gallery and event space run by Edgewater Artists in Motion. We look forward to enjoying community events in this space in the new year.

Thanks to the realtor community (and businesses & residents seeking cachet), the boundaries of A'ville seem to have expanded all the way s. to Lawrence and n. to the "parkette" at Clark-Ashland. A'ville was never officially recognized as a separate neighborhood by the city--it and everything n. to Devon and w. to Clark is officially "Edgewater." Edgewater/Uptown border used to be Foster, but like A'ville's s. border, over the past decade or so, has become whatever businesses, residents & businesses claim it is. (I seem to remember when Edgewater was considered part of Uptown--that fell by the wayside >35 yrs, ago).

5 yrs ago I did my post-knee-surgery rehab at ATI's "Andersonville" branch. It's at Clark and...wait for it...WILSON! (Go figure).

Even more confusing, Uptown and most of Edgewater are in Lake View Township! (RP is its own township).

I like the discussion style here. We start down one topic and end up with a completely different one. How about we agree that Andersonville is no more than a state of mind? And that this criminal selected a neighborhood with a poor clearance rate. Like the bank robber, Willy Sutton said: I could rob a bank in Andersonville with one hand because no one will catch me. That, and there are a lot of good coffee shops around.
