Technical Wizard needed

I am seeking to hire a person of any age who can be my go to person for all questions technical. Example: teach me how to download and play podcasts, create interactions between computer, phone, tv, tablet, firestick, echo and so on. We are PC and android users, no apple products.

We don't have any kids and neither of us are naturals. We are glad to consider teens/students who are responsible and interested in making some money. Best case scenario is that we have someone on retainer upon whom we can call as needed and will have time to respond or come over. I will pay better than minimum wage.

The best way to get a lost cat back is by setting out a humane trap at the place he escaped. You can borrow one from tree house humane society at no cost, deposit only. Only trap when you are home to check every 15 mins, keep trap covered and never trap overnight

What A Difference A Year Makes

It was on December 23 of last year that North Side Housing and Supportive Services, the men's shelter in the Preston Bradley Center, announced happy tidings. Literally days before it was scheduled to close forever because of funding issues, a private donor (the Reva and David Logan Foundation) came up with enough money to keep the shelter running for several more years.

There are crime posts on here all the time about attacks and assaults in the neighborhood. Somehow these posts can't stay up? I know that the person involved is a prominent and frequent poster here (initials JL), but that shouldnt excuse that person or create a situation where that poster can sanitize what he did on a public street. Especially when the information is in the public record.

I just don't get it. I moved here three years ago and am sick that someone can assault and threaten a neighbor without anyone in the neighborhood knowing.

Tantalizingly Close (But No Cigar) - 2015 Plan To Revive Uptown Theater Scuttled
What's up with the Uptown Theater? That's the eternal question. Most people who have been inside it want it to be revived. Others question whether it will ever happen. City planners see it as a crown jewel that will attract people from all over to Uptown. But right now, it sits.

That is political salesmanship...who is against children huh...? If there is a big market for that then the many other venues would be doing it.

It is a very fair argument that given the state of the City's financials, infrastructure and school system among other things this theater being restored with public money would offend many many people in other parts of the city.

Kings Theater is PUBLICALLY owned by the City of New York, was recently renovated at a cost of $90 million.

I have said before the only model for a restoration of the Uptown Theater is the "publically-owned" model. There is no privately owned model for a theater that size outside of a downtown which needs THAT much money. The only way the Uptown Theater is going to rise to a restored condition is as a public entity.

There is no way the public is going to foot that bill for JAM Productions, there is no way we can expect JAM productions to do that on their own. Significant amounts of private philantropy is also less of an option if the theater is owned by JAM.

A future Mayor needs to make a deal with JAM. It can be done. Read more about the Kings Theater, the paralells to the Uptown Theater, pre-restoration are numerous. Same era, same size, not in Manhattan/CBD, same state of disrepair, same opulent style, approx. same closing date of 1976 vs. 1981 for the Uptown Theater.

JAM Productions can still be the sole promoter of "for profit" concerts, it can be legally codified in a sales agreement. Is it a fair statement that the company could earn far more as the promoter of a pubically owned and restored Uptown Theater, then an unrestored and privately held theater? Seems likely.

There are many different models for restoring an old theater because each situation is different, each theater and each community.

But The Kings Theater is easily the closest model. The strongest comparison is that both are outside the central business district, one way outside the Loop, the other way outside Manhattan/Broadway.

    Same size...3600 vs. 4000 seats

Same physical condition prior to restoration of The Kings Theater

Same time frame of closing...1976 vs. 1981

The big difference, and the one only myself has broached, only the "local artist", has mentioned the big difference.

The Kings is PUBLICALLY owned. The Uptown tis PRIVATELY owned. That is the fact that makes what happened to The Kings theater impossible for the Uptown, and it is not going to change until we get a new Mayor, this Mayor isn't into it.

There is NO MODEL....for restoring a theater like the Uptown as a PRIVATELY held venue. If there is please share.

In the meantime enjoy the endless posts of wonder and idle speculation of what may happen to the Uptown Theater. The theater can wait because to the credit of Jam Productions they have done a good job preserving the theater as is and stopping further deterioration. The theater is waiting for the world to change?

Are there any neighborhood gardening groups, especially ones that are not heavy on just outdoor gardens? I like taking care of plants and propagating them but my plants are all indoors (no outside area to place plants).

In the past, I've been very appreciative when people give me plant cuttings, keikis, bulbs, offshoots, almost-dead-plants, etc. When I trim my plants, there are a lot of cuttings that I don't really like to just throw in the trash (they're very healthy plump cuttings). Here, though, I have a hard time getting rid of plant cuttings. People seem to only want plants that are ready-to-be-displayed. They don't want cuttings that they still have to plant in pots.

For those of you who do a lot of gardening (indoor or outdoor), where do you give away your excess plants (cuttings, whole plants, bulbs, etc.)?

    Hi.

Can you please be more specific about the types of houseplants you have? Since you mention keikis, I'm guessing you have orchids? I collect orchids, succulents, and cacti mostly. If you're interested in plants in the genus Tradescantia, I grow several of those that regularly need to be cut back, and can also give you cuttings of geranium.

I'm a member of a succulent/cactus plant club. People are laid back and not picky, so I can bring plants/cuttings that aren't technically succulents. It's not in Uptown though. It's in River Forest, at the end of the blue line.

I also give plants to people in my building. Maybe a year ago, I organized a plant swap at a coffee shop close to me. There's also a really big plant swap in Evanston in the Spring, where people give away plants and anything related to them. This would be a good place to give away bulbs.

So yea, there's tons of options for houseplants, but none that I know of in Uptown, unless you organize your own plant swap. If you do, please let me know. :-)
