Upcoming entrance to Aldi directly on the corner of Broadway & Sunnyside

    A Facelift For Aldi
Ald. Cappleman just released the plans for the upcoming remodeling of Aldi at 4500 N. Broadway in his latest newsletter. Work is expected to begin later this month. Expect to see an updated exterior that reflects the latest Aldi branding and interior design.

  • Can't wait to see that unkempt garden and display boxes bite the dust! This will be a wonderful addition to the many other changes taking place around there.

CHICAGO, June 19, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- CRG, Clayco's real estate development group, is breaking ground to develop a multifamily apartment building in Chicago's historic Uptown neighborhood at the intersection of Sheridan Road and Wilson Avenue. The development is located two blocks from the Red Line Wilson Stop at 4555 North Sheridan Road and a ground-breaking ceremony will take place today at 11:00 a.m.

  • Another good sign of progress. I think most of Uptown's residents would agree that the toxic 'Helen Era' was not a good thing. (I've lived here since 1992).

This thread makes no sense at all.

Copper Cornice Comeback

Newly constructed copper cornice meets the 109 year old cornice

    Copper Cornice Comeback
The Stewart School Lofts are nearing completion as new residents move into the unique floorplans to enjoy amenities like a gorgeous rooftop deck with beautiful views of the city. Outside, Morningside Development has been hard at work with tuckpointing, installing a new roof and repairing the copper cornice that was sagging in sections and in danger of falling completely off.

  • Uptown does have a lot of cheap apartments.

  • I think they've done a great job. And the location is perfect. Granted, there are probably a tiny handful of 'activists' who'd rather see tents and Helen murals here. Fantastic use of this great building I think!

Where are the yard sales?

Hi there Uptown just wondering is your neighborhood having yard or community sales? Esp. looking for Condo sales.

  • Check online for block clubs in the area, then check their activities. Margate Park's is actually the Carmen Winona Block Club and it used to be in June. Selling takes place along Winona and Carmen. There's a fee to participate. Send an email to carmenwinonabc@gmail.com to inquire.

  • Jeffrey Littleton If you can't be a poet, be the poem.

The sale I was thinking of is between Sheridan and Marine Drive. A lot of quirky sale items.

Violence in Edgewater

Hey neighbors I just wanted to clue everyone in to what happened on Thursday night/ Friday morning on Kenmore Avenue between Foster and Berwyn. There was an attempted and fortunately unsuccessful drive by sometime between 9-11 pm on our block with multiple shots fired. The suspect who was a member of the Latin Kings was apprehended in the same location the following morning between 8-9 am as he returned to try to finish the job. He was armed at the time of the arrest. I wanted to post about it as a reminder to keep your head on a swivel and that we as neighbors have to look out for eachother.

  • You are absolutely correct !! Thanks for keeping everyone informed.

Excessive Heat Warning Today Through Monday Night

It's gonna be crazy hot and humid through Monday night, with little relief after the sun sets. WGN says that "Conditions similar to the 1995 deadly heat wave could evolve." This is serious stuff. So we urge you to not only be careful for yourself, but for your pets and most vulnerable neighbors.

Tracyanne Campbell works through the death of her Camera Obscura bandmate in a new duo with Danny Coughlan

The neon-lit bar at Lawrence and Broadway, now a legendary jazz club, has been around for 107 years—and has more stories than any tavern in town. Here are a few from the past three decades.

Tracyanne Campbell works through the death of her Camera Obscura bandmate in a new duo with Danny Coughlan
Glaswegian Tracyanne Campbell understandably retreated from playing music after her best friend and longtime bandmate in Camera Obscura Carey Lander died from bone cancer in 2015 at the age of 33. The band has been on hiatus ever since, and it's heartening to see Campbell reemerge on a new project with Bristol singer-songwriter and fellow pop auteur Danny Coughlan (who has performed under the name Crybaby).

Two generations of noisy oddballs from the LA underground descend on Chicago
Veteran LA noise maven John Wiese has dramatically slowed his release schedule in recent years, but he's made up for that relative scarcity by increasing the rigor in each project. Last month he dropped Continuous Hole (Gilgongo), a stunning collaboration with Drew Daniel of Matmos that redirects his penchant for sonic violence.

Rebirth Brass Band carries the torch of New Orleans brass band music while pushing the genre forward
In a sense, New Orleans brass band music is much like acappella doo-wop. The better practitioners of either style can make you forget you're listening to a wordless art form where the music does the talking. On the Louisiana home turf of the Rebirth Brass Band, that legacy is something to be taken seriously.
