Lincoln Towing Stokes Again

The much deservedly maligned Lincoln Towing decided the best way to close out 2017 was to illegally tow a moving van packed with belongings and to make that burn a double their personal car too.

The incident occurred close to Broadway Lawrence...thank you Alderman Pawar for keeping up the pressure on LT. At least someone in the city council is paying attention.

After Lincoln Towing Hauls Away Uptown Family's Moving Truck, Alderman Re-Ups Call For Company To Go
A day after the North Side's infamous Lincoln Towing company took possession of a family's U-Haul and their personal car in Uptown, 47th Ward Alderman Ameya Pawar is renewing his call for the firm to be outlawed. And this is the second case we know of involving Lincoln Towing's apparently illegal removal of moving trucks in 2017.

Wilson Bike Racks

Has anyone used the new racks at Wilson Station?

Are these types of racks really as bad as the biking advocates say?

Eyes on the Street: Subpar Bike Racks at the Wilson Station
If you're a regular Streetsblog Chicago reader you may be aware that I'm a fan of the nearly completed Wilson 'L' station reconstruction in Uptown. The project includes transforming the stop into a Red-Purple transfer, adding wheelchair accessibility, new station entrances, the restoration of the 1923 Gerber building, and cool public art by Cecil Balmond.
    https://chi.streetsblog.org
  • Cool and sculptural is great if it is functionally easy.

I just don't understand why they cannot install the Inverted U Shaped black ones.

Not only are they easy to use, But also much more secure and you can rest your bike against it.

Can you help CACC's dogs and the doggy overpopulation by adopting a dog?

This winter CACC has rapidly approached its maximum dog population. Can you help? Have you thought about adopting a pooch? Here's the opportunity for you (with some financial incentives) and a new life for a sadly caged dog. See:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-chicago-dog-shelter-at-capacity-20180111-story.html

City dog shelter hits capacity of 300, has to consider euthanizing animals
The number of dogs at Chicago's Animal Care and Control shelter reached 300 Thursday, a level that prompted the city shelter to consider euthanizing animals. "We do have to make a decision this evening if we can't get the population down.
    http://www.chicagotribune.com
  • Hurray....the article in the Trib and broadcast news had some results. Yesterday, 30-40 dogs were adopted (10:00 PM news 1/13/18 and it showed the lines of people waiting with, or for, their new furry friends). I hope that there will be another 30-40 adopted and that cages are emptied.

  • I know Friends of Animal Care and Control (groups name) are putting up some dogs to prevent them from being euthanized. If a permanent new pet is not right for you the many rescue groups who pull from CACC can always use fosters. If you cant foster FCACC can always use donations. And most rescues and shelters usually haveva wishlist on their websites. Along with cash many groups may take cleaning and laundry supplies, towels and linens and I know Anti Cruelty is always in need of newspapers.

  • Friends is putting up some dogs in the Petsmart Hotels to avoid euthanazation. (To clarify)

Feeding Kitten

Hello EB neighbors! I found a kitten without its mother in sight. Because of the brutally cold weather,I didn't want to leave it outside. The kitten looks young enough to still require nursing. I asked my neighbor to pickup supplemental kitten milk and feeding bottles from Petco en route to his trip to Whole Foods. Do anyone know if there is a proper way to bottle-feed kittens? Is it best to feed them while they stand upright? On their stomach? Side?

The difference between the 48thward and 46th ward is stark and obvious to anyone in a position to notice.

Cultural development in the 46th ward has been extremely underserved and neglected by Alderman Cappleman. Less support, less programming, less public art, fewer outdoor fairs...just one a canned "Ribfest".

Every cultural development category Cappleman has failed in, the evidence is real and actual.
