Another Jungle badly misunderstands Upton Sinclair’s original

Through 4/29: Thu-Sat 8 PM, Sun 5 PM; also Mon 4/23, 8 PM, the Buena at Pride Arts Center, 4147 N. Broadway, 312-469-0779, cloudgatetheatre.com, $25.

Another Jungle badly misunderstands Upton Sinclair's original
With designer Angela McIlvain's six-foot-long stuffed cow dangling from a meat hook at center stage for almost the duration of the show, how bad could this adaptation of Upton Sinclair's The Jungle from Cloudgate Theatre possibly be? Stupefyingly bad, unfortunately, a dumpster fire on stilts. Worst of all, it knows it.

Isn't this animal abuse...Uptown (Sheridan near Montrose) yesterday?

I saw a man in a wheelchair being pulled by a German Shepherd.

The dog was really struggling trying to pull plus he was way off to the side and was totally out of balance to pull.

He, also, had put an fairly large orange plastic safety cone around the dog's neck I guess his goal was to balance it on the dog's head for visibility but the cone had slipped off and was hanging from the dog's neck.

Sure looked like animal abuse to me but I'm not sure of the rules regarding service dogs, if in fact this poor dog was a "service dog."

If I see him again should I report it - to the Humane Society or ???

  • Becky - would you have a moment to contact the Anti-Cruelty Society? They have field service investigators. I've never worked with them but here is an excerpt from the ACS website .... "if you see any of the above signs or observe unusual or suspicious behavior involving an animal, contact our state approved investigators at 312-645-8090 or email abuse@anticruelty.org". This could be a good resource. Thank you for caring about this dog's well being.

This really needs to reported. Please call and report info and give description and location.

Metal & Iron Stairs Repair - any recommendations?

Hello, I've been having difficulty finding any contractors in Chicago who perform repair and maintenance on metal/iron stairs. We have a landing that's rusted through and need to replace it. Does anyone have any recommendations? Deck contractors I've spoken with only recommend to demolish the metal/iron stairs and build it all new wooden.

Cubs opening day

The Cubs opener had a fly over of four F-16's from the 93rd fighter squadron based in Homestead, Florida.

  • d3 NOH

Probably a hundred grand + as they we're practicing for it the day prior too

  • My understanding is that pilots have to regularly log flight hours, and so often times this is just integrated into their required practice.

Get lucky with a Friday the 13th tattoo
What better way to celebrate the upcoming Friday the 13th in April than with a commemorative tattoo? Although it might seem contradictory to honor a holiday for the star-crossed and accursed, the tradition supposedly dates back to sailors - known for their "old school" body art - who tattooed the number "13" to ward off bad fortune.

Does anyone know if it's okay to park in front of the no parking sign (picture with the bikes), which lacks an arrow? Usually a sign like this would indicate no parking on an entire side of the street, but that's definitely not the case. It's located on the end of a two-car length strip of curb, between two condo driveways, which also has yellow on both sides. The catch here is that there's another sign, across one driveway, that actually does have an arrow pointing back at it.

It's so ambiguous that these spots are usually open on an otherwise crowded street. People typically pass them by because they understandably don't want to risk it.

So what do you guys think? The best kept secret or a parking trap?

Brick Pavers

Hi, Looking for a company to install Brick Pavers. Any recommendations?

  • ridiculous that you can't expect quick city approval, especially when you have plans to update a business which creates tax revenue.

    sad, really.

    good luck.

  • Philip Independent Business owner ,47th. ward since 1968

The majority of over paid and underworked city employees are just stuck in slow motion, too many hands in the cookie jar . Way too much time and money is wasted while waiting on the permit process. Small business owners just can’t catch a break .
