Am I the only one who thinks the overnight parking ban on Halsted is ridiculous?

I try not to drive much, but I do occasionally and sometime driving makes sense because I'm not the closest to the neighborhood. I was probably within one minute of getting towed the other night. The signs are very confusing and on top of like 6 other different signs. I try not to drive much, but I do occasionally and sometime driving makes sense because I'm not the closest to the neighborhood. I was probably within one minute of getting towed the other night. The signs are very confusing and on top of like 6 other different signs. Literally everywhere else in the entire city, it is known that any of the METERED street parking spots are free after a certain hour. I don't think many people are checking for a separate sign since this is literally the only spot in the city where they have this. Most people just see the metered Park Chicago sign and see it's past 10pm or whatever and think alright it's fine to park here. The only thing that saved me from getting towed was I saw actual cops writing tickets and towing cars when I was walking away from my vehicle and was wondering why. Then I went back and saw the not prominent at all overnight parking ban signs right next to the metered signs. Is it really necessary to waste police resources on this? This is also the first time in this city I've seen actual cops writing parking tickets instead of meter maids. If the "Car parties" were such a big problem, all that is going to do is make people do the same thing on Broadway instead of Halsted. It's a nightlife district, people are going to be loud, there's no stopping that.

That's not a problem unique to Halsted though. Uber and Lyft are making this entire city congested. If only we had some sort of regulated transportation....

I agree with you & Ed H especially about making the signs more prominent. I parked right by Sherman Williams, paid my couple bucks to have my car covered til 10pm; didn't even see the towing sign til way later when the towing guy pointed it out down the street! A lesson learned the hard way, that's for sure.

Erika Wozniak Forms Committee to run for 46th ward Alderman

CPS teacher Erika Wozniak has formed a committee to run for Alderman. Renner Barsala of Haymarket Books is on board to work on her campaign, likely as treasurer. Wozniak is vehemently against the TIFS that Ald. Shiller created. Both of the above mentioned are new residents of Uptown. Should be a fun election season!

Wow -- is this thread negative. Is Cappleman feeling threatened?

Based on everything I've read, Ms. Wozniak is an Uptown resident and a teacher. She appears to have an interest in helping to create a thriving community with strong services for the ward -- especially public schools. I followed the sign controversy and am familiar with ONE Northside (which has several members of the clergy from various faiths on its board, so I'm not sure how one can make an argument that they have a "commie agenda").

Obviously people who have commented here want to organize against her candidacy (or possible candidacy -- I don't see anything announcing that she's formed a committee). That's your right. But the smear campaign appears to be pretty thin, if your main talking points are that the possible candidate threw a "hissy fit" and that she has "commie supporters."

As for me, I'm going to go outside to enjoy the sunshine. Seems like some of you should do that as well.

    K,
Thank you for the tip. I’m already enjoying my day.
There is no smear campaign. Let’s wait and see, as for One Northside, you skipped over the reported abuses, or is the fact that they have clergy from various faiths mean that there was absolutely no abuse. Selective reading
    Doesn’t make anyone informed .
Enjoy your day, no need to further the discussion as we clearly disagree on many levels.
