Is that man still trapping feral cats around the city?

It was on the news a few days ago http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/11/30/chicago-man-trapping-cats/ but I have not heard any updates.

I'm not sure how I feel about what he's doing. On one hand, I do not like the thought of half a million cats roaming the streets, and killing birds, and freezing to death.

But on the other hand, it is sad that they are going to an over crowded kill shelter.

Just curious to know if he is still at it?

Chicago Man Trapping Cats Hopes To Get City's Attention
CHICAGO (CBS) - A Chicago man, who has trapped more than 40 cats this week, was back at it on Thursday. Chicago's Animal Care and Control (CACC) asked Disgrace Felyer to stop, and even issued a warning to cat owners, or those who care for feral cat colonies, to keep their feline friends indoors.

The pest abatement program I was referring to had to do with pigeons and the barbed and sharp wires around CTA train stations and other areas. I didn't mean to at all suggest that birds of prey were being purposely used as part of any pest abatement program. My aim was simply to point out some problems with the overgeneralized outdoor cats vs birds argument.

These articles reference Bald Eagles being sighted in Chicago:

If the sightings were technically in Chicago suburbs, and not in metro Chicago itself, I apologize. I'm not familiar with the technical boundaries between city and suburbs.

I see it didn't take long for this to turn into a thread full of comments about the alleged benefits of having non-native predators like cats running wild in the city. The thread topic really is about this guy who is acting within the law to trap illegally free-roaming house cats (not ferals, even) and turning them in to CACC, which is supposed to (but clearly can't) accept them.

Perhaps we should also talk about the fallacy that no-kill shelters are an actual solution to those which euthanize animals which cannot be adopted out. Because that's another thing that this trapper is demonstrating.

Painter Reccomendations

I had my condo painted a few weeks and the painter did a horrible job. He didn’t patch holes, didn’t use dropcloths, and didn’t paint the ceilings (this is an abbreviated list of what went wrong). I contacted Paintzen to get a quote and they said they would have to repaint everything, which I would rather not do.

  • I decided to go with Chicago Painters, Inc (http://www.chicago-painters.com) and they're coming on Monday. They came out for a quote last Saturday and were great and didn't try to upset. I decided to go with Chicago Painters, Inc (http://www.chicago-painters.com) and they're coming on Monday. They came out for a quote last Saturday and were great and didn't try to upset. I asked about painting the kitchen cabinets and they said it wouldn't be worth it, since the paint would come off due to the type of cabinets. They gave a little discount if I booked before March and with that discount the whole job is about half of what I was paying the other company. I'll let everyone know how it all turns out, but so far their office manager and dedicated project manager has been extremely helpful and professional.

  • Great! I haven’t seen you this happy in a while. We’re looking forward to your follow up message!

Rental properties in Lake View

Hi! My husband and I are moving from DC to Chicago in April and are looking to rent in before buying. We've never worked with a broker before but think that may be our best option, since we'll only have a day or two to visit and find a place.

Does anyone have suggestions on a broker/agent? Thanks!

Hi neighbors, does anyone know when the new Planet Fitness that is coming to 3636 N Broadway is going to open??

  • Ed H. 5 year Lakeview resident

I agree, we need another cheap one. The XSport on Broadway is CRAZY busy. I'm shocked to hear planet fitness is coming though!

Dog Behaviorist Wanted

Can anyone recommend a dog behaviorist in Lakeview who will actually come out to where we live (Belmont/Lake Shore) and go to the park with my and my dog to work on some really specific behavior issues? She's a great pup, a rescue (about 2 years old now), very sweet, and otherwise very well behaved, but needs help with not suddenly barking at occasional random runners and other people that startle her. (She's tiny so doesn't really startle people, but definitely want to help her to learn not to bark at people.)
I've gone to some training facilities and it's all great while we're there (and I do practice with her what we've learned), but I think it would be much more helpful to have someone who would walk with us and see what's occurring and give some training strategies. Know of anyone? Thank you!

  • Janice Triptow @ Dog Behavior Solutions. She’s been amazing with my dog-reactive rescue, and will come to you.

  • Michelle Clark Proud puppy parent to 2 girls!

I've referred many people to Barker Behavior (specifically, Melissa) and they've all raved about the impact she made on them and their dogs in even one session. She comes to you and is not expensive. Highly recommend this company!!

  • DS

I have used Gayle from Its A Pawsitive Thing. She only uses positive reinforcement and is very adept at identifying specific issues and their root causes. Very pleased with her and she can come to you.
